Tivo Box died. RIP. It turns out, I am paying $15/mo for tivo service…
I sort of knew that, but never really paid attention.
And CableCo requires that I still rent a Cable box, which I am not using…
So my current cable bill was about $140/mo. Plus $15 for Tivo. Plus $8
for Netflix.
I just pulled the trigger, and cut the Cable cord… Liberation!!
Down to $70/mo for internet only, with an upgrade to a faster service.
Still too much but I do need internet service. That’s an immediate saving
of $840 for this year. I added HuluPlus at $8/mo to catch any recently
aired TV shows. So, while I canceled Tivo, the savings there is $7/mo.,
bringing the annual savings to $924.
Sadly, this means no CNN or HBO. But otherwise, I am getting most of what
I have now. Just to feel like I’m not totally lost from Live TV, I got a
Roku (one time $99) which will stream additional channels. This is still
cheaper than replacing my dead Tivo Box.
Let’s see how this experiment works!
A Getaway Weekend.
Finally the Box was open. A nice dinner, with wine and piano music. Laughing stupidly, and trying to explain it to the strangers next to us. Pre-pre-dessert, pre-dessert, and then dessert. A great day.
Work late prepping with Tokyo, and back in for early morning meeting… It’s hot and humid but have to wear the suit and tie.
