  BACK IN OCTOBER 2010, I WAS RANDOMLY IN NEW YORK FOR A FEW DAYS. THROUGH FRIENDS (AND ON VERY SHORT NOTICE) I GOT A FEW WHITE RAINBOW GIGS LINED UP. THIS ALBUM IS RECORDINGS OF THOSE THREE LIVE SHOWS. THE FIRST SHOW WAS FOR A YOGA CLASS AT DUSK ON TOP OF A DERELICT BUILDING IN BUSHWICK. THE ROOF LOOKED OUT DIRECTLY ONTO THE JMZ ELEVATED SUBWAY PLATFORM. THE SQUEALS OF THE TRAINS MIXED WITH THE SOUND OF THE TWO SHITTY PRACTICE AMPS I WAS PLAYING THRU WHILE AROUND 30 OR SO PEOPLE DID YOGA. THE SUN SET, DAY TURNED TO NIGHT, PEOPLE GOT CALM. I CAUGHT A WOMAN THE NEXT BUILDING OVER WATCHING US IN CURIOSITY. I WONDERED WHAT SHE THOUGHT. THE RECORDING HAS LOTS OF KILLER WIND NOISE BURSTS! THE SECOND SHOW WAS A LAST MINUTE JUMP-ON WITH A BUNCH OF YOUNG COOL BANDS @ THE ALL AGES VENUE "MONSTER ISLAND BASEMENT". I PLAYED EARLY AND QUICKLY TO THE FEW FRIENDS OF MINE THAT SHOWED UP. I HEARD IT GOT CROWDED FOR THE REST OF THE SHOW, BUT IT WAS JUST AMBIENT AIR HORNS AND COW BELL BLASTS TO A HALF EMPTY ROOM FROM ME... THE THIRD SHOW WAS THE NEXT NIGHT AT A SECRET LOFT WAREHOUSE LOCATION DEEP IN AN OTHERWISE COMPLETELY HASIDIC NEIGHBORHOOD. THE PA WAS BIG BUT THE BASS KEPT ON CUTTING OUT. BILLED AS A RECORD RELEASE SHOW FOR ONE OF THE OTHER ACTS THAT PLAYED, IT WAS BASICALLY A PARTY WITH KEGS AND LOTS OF PEOPLE I DIDN'T KNOW. I AGAIN ASKED TO PLAY EARLY... AND HAD FUN MAKING A COOL PARTY GROOVE AND DOING SOME AD-LIB TALKIN AND TOASTING ON TOP. TOLD PEOPLE WHERE THE BEER WAS AND STUFF. SO IN THE END, ONE VERY "AMBIENT" SET AND TWO PSYCHEDELIC POST HYPHY PARTY SETS PLEASE ENJOY! ALL TRACKS RECORDED LIVE BY MY GOOD FRIEND AND FELLOW MUSICIAN DAVID FARRELL (CHECK OUT DORMANT & LOCATE/MODULE)! THANKS DAVID FOR TAPING THESE SETS!   SUN SHIFTS was originally released by my now-defunct Yarnlazer CDR label in 2007? Recorded while looking out to the west onto downtown portland from a huge bank of windows at sunset, as the sky turned colors and eventually settled into dusk. Inputs included guitar, synthesizer, trumpet, voice, percussion. Processing included various delays, loopers and guitar fx. Original release was an edition of maybe 200 CDrs in hand-drawn sleeves.

  This is a digital re-issue of a cassette released on Gnar tapes & Shit last year in an edition of 100. Music for a Circular Room was originally made for a Doug Aitken installation in 2008. The other two tracks ("Skys Position (for Tom Blood)" and "Gnar") were originally intended to be the 3rd LP of New Clouds, one song per LP side, but for various reasons were left off of the eventually released 2xLP/1CD. These songs are all very deep, long, minimalist drone cloud washes, meant for deep or background listening. This is the first time these tracks have been officially digitally released! - Which is the crux of the problem: As I recently insisted with regard to the Getty’s “California Video” show, the museological interment of insurrectionary creativity is a well-intentioned cul-de-sac at best, blah blah blah, insurgent corpses and gloating emperors, etc. … I feel sort of like Charlie Brown running toward Lucy’s football each time I approach another such enshrinement of the dematerialized object or canonization of the trickster, thinking maybe this time someone will have found a way to circumvent the political declawing and cognitive dissonance that seem unavoidable when a voice of dissent is lauded and absorbed by the very system it was trying to destabilize and render obsolete.
