The image that many, perhaps most, Americans have of the nation’s 40th president is largely manufactured. Reagan has become this larger-than-life figure who all but single-handedly won the cold war, planted the Republican Party’s tax-cut philosophy in the resistant soil of the liberal Democrats and is the touchstone for all things allegedly conservative, no matter how wacky or extreme.
People used to say that the future happens first in California, but these days what happens in Texas is probably a better omen. And what we’re seeing right now is a future that doesn’t work.
A world without nuclear weapons sounds nice, but of course that was the world that brought us World War I and World War II. If you like the sound of that, the touchy-feely “Global Zero” bandwagon is probably for you.
My sentiments exactly, and not because I secretly pine for the Cold War.
If anybody knows where I could get a copy of this poster or one like it, please let me know!
Just found this awesome "film" that dramatizes how a Cold War era situation could have escalated with the Soviet Union. It just gets better and better. It's a slow burn so give it time.
So we have developed technology for cars that can drive themselves.
YES. YES. YES. YES. YES. YES. YES. YES. YES. YES. YES. YES.
I'm listening through and reviewing the entire 1001 Albums you must hear before you die over here. My current album is Ray Charles and this track is embedded in my head right now.
