So this is how my brain works: I saw a random picture of Marilyn Monroe from “How to Marry a Millionaire” on my tumblr dash, which made me think about the scene where Marilyn meets Cameron on the plane, which made me google the actual quote from Dorothy Parker, then I remembered a shoot Tsurufoto did of Isabella Misery in the woods where she was wearing glasses, and ta dah!

I wanna preface by saying I really like what you're doing in your videos. That being said, as a filmmaker, you've gotta use a larger aperture or add more light to fix the constant focus finding. It is a cool occasional effect, but especially when combined with your camera movement, it has the unfortunate downside of also making people seasick when they can't tell where to focus their eyes amidst the motion. Also, the autoexposure is really distracting. These things will make strong work stronger

First of all, thank you for the constructive criticism! I find that very rare these days on the innernets where quasi-anonymous trolls roam the land.

Second, you are a filmmaker?  Why be anonymous! I would love to see your work!!! 

And finally, on the feedback… First, the focus finding & movement. That’s actually me! I run most films wide open and what you see is actually how I work and move and whatever when I’m shooting. The original idea behind the majority of little films is that they add motion and music to a photoshoot (I hate “slideshow” videos and wasn’t ready to make talkie-films). It’s like click-click-film-film-click-film-click… well you get the idea. The whole time I’m hopping around like a mentally-challenged monkey while shooting & filming saying things like “BLAMO!” “Oh man, awesome!” and so on.  Hell, on some shoots I even have the light-source LITERALLY clipped onto my belt using my Elvis-pelvis as my lighting assistant!  Lol. Funny but true.

Not sure if any of the models have gotten seasick yet, but they do tend laugh at my antics (which I love when I capture). But I’ll do damn near anything to get the shot I want! Even with a broken toe (with Tita & my first shoot together) or with a wicked head cold (yesterday with Lex), and (and I’m proud of this) I haven’t fallen on or damaged anyone yet!  =)

So yeah, think of it as more about “being there in Tsuru’s shoes”, that kinda thing!  But still… point taken!  I think as things evolve (and they have evolved) that is something I will keep in consideration.

On autoexposure, yes. I think you are right. I think there’s an AE lock on my camera in video mode and I need to use it if there is. But, that’s on the fancier camera (which one day if the films keep coming & the ideas keep rolling, will be upgraded). I’m also prone to shooting with my cheaper cameras and even my phone depending on what’s with me and what look I’m going for. But yeah…. As I dive more into traditional short films (shooting one this weekend), I’ll need to be less in-the-moment and more mindful of things that can take away from what I’m trying to do.

tsururadio presents… First, we take Manhattan mixtape!

Well, we knew this day would come one day and it was one of the most agonizing decisions we had to make, but as we announced the other day, the Tsurus are moving to New York City in October!  And I don’t know about you, but I can’t think of any way better to celebrate drastic change (for the better or the worse, really) than with a mixtape and so, BLAMO! that’s what we got today.

These past few weeks as the possibility became more and more a reality, I got nostalgic. In the mixtape, it really shows. The result was basically a “best of” the past few years of life here in Columbus, mixed with thoughts of New York, and a few new songs that have caught my ear.  For fans of my mixtapes, you’ll find lots of familiar ground, but hopefully a few surprises. Well hello there, my friends! Long time caller, first time listener and I got a treaty-treat for you this labor day martin luther king jr day presidents day memorial day weekend! It’s hot out but, my dear old friend, shit’s about to get even hotter. Like Dungeons n dragons in a different fucked up dimension, we got a 3-sided mixtape to slay a few mojitos with…. oh ho ho, but that’s not all! Two of the songs featured in the mixtape are also in two tsurufoto presents… short films!

Oh, it’s a surprise because today we are putting the “radio” back in tsururadio running a pythagorean special with Sides A, B, & C TOTALLY BLIND!!! duh-duh-DUUUUUUH!!!! I guess I could’ve broke ‘em up, labeled them out, and got a bunch more “hits” and shit, but fuck it, it’s a 3-day weekend and I’m having too much fun!

OH! Before we get to it, once again this year we are putting these sexy gams to good use, this time riding 100 miles & raising $1800 to fight cancer for Pelotonia 12!!!
