Last month I launched my first collection of housewares. You’re welcome to visit the shop (we’re having a spring sale right now!), and read about the inspiration behind the first collection.
You can read some of the kind words folks have been saying: Sunday Suppers, Design*Sponge, Vitamin Daily, and Bobbette & Belle.
Holiday flowers
I had the pleasure of attending a Pure Green Magazine event a couple of weeks ago, which gave participants the opportunity to make holiday flower arrangements with the talented Coriander Girl. It was the perfect thing to start getting into the holiday spirit.
Bits of Autumn
The weather is starting to drop just below zero overnight in Toronto, which means winter is almost here. Before it fully arrives, I wanted to remember a few autumnal moments: the most crisp, fresh local apples, being gifted the most beautifully arranged flowers by the talented, Coriander Girl, and bringing home some new patent dancing shoes.
Switzerland in Autumn
My first time visit to a place that was even more picturesque than the photos I had seen. We spent time in a small town (Lausanne), in the mountains (Vitznau), even higher in the mountains (Mt. Rigi), and a small village (Echandens). I fell in love with the fresh alpine air, perfectly baked croissants, brioche, bread, etc., and the mountain goats whose neck-bells woke us up in the morning.

End of summer/Early Autumn
The weekend before last, I visited a friend’s lodge on Amherst Island (about 3.5 hours away from Toronto). We took a short ferry ride to the island, and had a real sense of escape from the city as we walked around the island, seeing nothing but other cottages, and fields for miles and miles.

Greece
I’ve been visiting every summer since I was five years old. It makes the fleeting season of summer feel more complete and full when I’m celebrating it there, with some of the people I love most.

Southeast Asia
This summer marked the furthest journey east that I’ve ever been on, visiting Bangkok, Thailand; Ninh Van Bay, Vietnam; and Singapore.
I gained so much respect for the culture, food, and people. The fresh herbs, exotic seafood, local fruits, perfectly cooked rice, friendly smiles, and tropical climate have left me wanting more.

Telling yourself, “Oh, you have all the time in the world, you have all the money in the world, you have all the colors in the palette you want, anything you want,” I mean, that just kills creativity.

The Schoolhouse — An annual girls weekend at my good friend’s converted century-old schoolhouse leaves no doubt that summer is officially upon us. Sipping sparkling lemonade by a therapeutic clay pond, while getting sun-kissed was a little bit of bliss.
Regularly writing about your priorities and goals forces you to focus your attention on them. Where you focus your attention defines who you become.
Different days, different peonies… received as gifts during the past couple of weeks, mostly from my dad’s garden. They’re certainly one of my favourites. I always thought of them as pretty little cabbages or frilly skirts growing up. I love that the interior-most petals stay fresh and plump, even as the outer ones begin to wilt. It’s like my mom says, on the inside she doesn’t feel as old as she actually is. As I get older too, I understand that much more.
Berlin: new friends (post 6 of 6)
Exactly one week since we returned from Berlin, and looking back I realize that it’s the people I had the opportunity to meet, and spend time with that made me connect to the city in such a special way.
One of Alan’s business partners lived in Berlin several years ago, and his enthusiasm for the city was contagious. His love of Berlin was only matched by his love of food; we had some of my most memorable, and delicious meals thanks to him.
After years of “following” Sandra Juto online, and admiring her work, I had the pleasure of meeting with her in person. We had a couple of visits enjoying our mutually favourite things: fika, walks, photo-taking, breakfast, and farmers market explorations. It was a real treat.
Berlin: Places & Spaces (post 5 of 6)
Thanks to a bit of research ahead of time, suggestions from online friends, and recommendations from “real-life” friends (who currently live in Berlin, or have in the past), there was no shortage of unique spots to visit. Plenty of wonderful restaurants and cafés, but also hidden gems like local craftspeoples’ shops/studios, and classic German goods stores (like Manufactum). My favourite was sitting outdoors in public spaces or wandering farmers markets, listening to the combination of accents and birds chirping (which was surprisingly noticeable in such a bustling city!).

Berlin: Blumen (post 4 of 6)
Most places look more beautiful in the springtime, and Berlin is no exception. It seemed like everywhere I turned, there were beautiful blooms to be admired.

Berlin: Food & Drink (post 3 of 6)
Most of the time I was too busy enjoying what I was eating/drinking to be able document it, but I managed to get some.
I was surprised at how easy it was to find such an array of international foods (Thai, Vietnamese, Turkish, to name just a few), and yet more difficult to find authentic, good German food. I was also (pleasantly) surprised at how affordable it was! Dining al fresco for much of the week was also a real treat.

Berlin: Colour (post 2 of 6)
I was constantly inspired by the colours surrounding me while wandering the city… Such interesting juxtapositions between high and low contrast.
