CHUO board of directors
I am the chair of the board of directors for the
CHUO radio station. We are cooking up some greatness.
If you have any questions about CHUO, community radio, or how to get involved, please be in touch.
Teaching
I teach radio students at Algonquin College the basics of video production.
Around The Block
Around the Block was a community radio show on CHUO that focused on hyper-local Ottawa news. It was started by journalist
Nick Taylor-Vaisey.
Half-way through the show's history, I took over. You can find highlights from the show
here.
Though it's no longer produced, the spirit of hyper-local news lived on at
OpenFile Ottawa, where Nick was the editor and I was a contributor. Nick now writes for
Macleans.
The News is Not Fun
This is a talk originally delivered during the
Northern Voice conference in Vancouver. It was delivered again for the monthly
Dirty Rectangles meet-up in Ottawa.
It's about:
- The definition of "fun"
- The idea of "meditative gameplay"
- How we can introduce video game elements to publishing and reading
Public data art
I have some ideas about turning public GPS bus data into art. You can hear one of them by watching
this video.
This app is currently under some form of production.
Ottawa DNA
OttawaDNA is an event that brings together developers and community leaders to discuss urban planning issues in Ottawa.
It was
created by Martin Canning, Nick Taylor-Vaisey, Kevin O'Donnell, and Jason Pearman.
I recorded and had a small hand in organizing the event. You can watch the videos and read more about OttawaDNA
here.
