Es ist nicht ordentlich,
das Leben.
Und was immer dein Bestreben,

Mazedonien - Kaliopi - Crna I Bela
Malta - Kurt Calleja - This is the Night
Ukraine - Gaitana - Be My Guest
Schweden - Loreen - Euphoria
Türkei - Can Bonomo - Love me back
Estland - Ott Lepland - Kuula
Norwegen - Tooji - Stay
Bosnien-Herzegowina - Maya Sar - Korake ti znam
Litauen - Donny Montell - Love is blind

Donna's Schwestern, Linda Gaines Lotman, Mary Ellen Bernard, Dara Bernard und Jenette Yancey, sangen zusammen mit dem Kirchenchor "We've Come This Far By Faith".
Presse-Mitteilung:
25th ANNIVERSARY OF MICHAEL JACKSON’S LANDMARK ALBUM BAD CELEBRATED WITH SEPTEMBER 17 RELEASE OF NEW BAD 25 PACKAGES
MICHAEL’S PERSONAL VHS COPY OF HIS JULY 16, 1988 PERFORMANCE AT WEMBLEY STADIUM UNEARTHED FOR THE RELEASE
NEWLY DISCOVERED OUTTAKES AND DEMOS FROM BAD ALBUM RECORDING SESSIONS TO BE RELEASED
New York, NY – Twenty-five years after the phrase “Who’s Bad” became a generation’s cultural catchphrase, Epic/Legacy Recordings, in collaboration with the Estate of Michael Jackson, will celebrate the legendary album and record breaking BAD tour on September 17, 2012 with the release of a deluxe package, BAD 25, which includes three CDs, two collectible booklets, and features the first ever authorized DVD release of a concert from the record breaking BAD tour.
“The era of BAD represented Michael’s creative ‘coming of age’ as a solo artist in charge of every aspect of his career – from recording to touring to endorsements to merchandising. This was the first album on which nearly all of the songs were written by Michael. It was also was the first album in history to produce five consecutive #1 singles and it took 2 ½ decades for another artist to match that success. It was also the first time Michael would tour as a solo artist - his vision, his decisions on what the show would be. The enormous success of the BAD album and tour was a pivotal moment in Michael’s growth as a composer, performer and producer cementing his role as the King of Pop. We are thrilled to celebrate such an historic era in Michael’s career with this release”, stated John Branca and John McClain, Co-Executors of the Estate of Michael Jackson.
The BAD 25 anniversary deluxe edition will feature three CDs and 1 DVD as follows:
· The highlight of the package is the DVD of Michael’s legendary July 16, 1988 concert at Wembley Stadium. The concert is not a compilation of performances, but rather one complete show, exactly as Michael performed it for Prince Charles, Princess Diana and the 72,000 fans who were in the audience for that night’s sold out show. This show was one of the record-breaking seven nights played at the venue attended by more than half a million people – three times that many people tried to purchase tickets. The DVD was sourced from Michael Jackson’s personal VHS copy of the performance as shown on the JumboTrons during the concert. This footage was only recently unearthed and is the only known copy of the show to exist. The visuals have been restored and the audio quality enhanced so that fans can share in the excitement of that famous night
· A CD of the re-mastered original BAD album
. A CD containing previously unreleased material recorded in Michael’s personal studio at Hayvenhurst. This material includes early demo versions of songs from the album as well as demos for songs not included on the final album. All of this material is being released as it was recorded during the BAD sessions. Nothing has been added. In addition, this CD will also include new remixes from internationally renowned DJ/producers
· A CD showcasing the audio from the sound truck recordings of the July 16th Wembley performance. The first-ever live Michael Jackson CD to be released, this is the only concert from the BAD tour known to exist on multitracks
This magnificent 3 CD/1 DVD box set will also include two extensive booklets with yet unseen photos from the recording sessions, video sets and the concert tour, the original BAD cover art, a two-sided poster and more. A BAD 25 two CD standard edition featuring the original album plus the CD of demos and new remixes will also be made available as will a stand alone edition of the DVD and a picture disc of the original album.
On June 4, Epic / Legacy Recordings will re-release the original first single from the album “I Just Can’t Stop Loving You” as a CD Single with a previously unreleased bonus track from the BAD sessions, “Don’t Be Messin’ ‘Round (demo).” This CD single is exclusively available from www.myplaydirect.com/michael-jackson in the U.K. and will not be available digitally.
On June 25 a replica edition of the original 7″ vinyl of this single with the original B-side “Baby Be Mine” will be made available to the world. The first single for BAD, “I Just Can’t Stop Loving You,” was originally released on 7″ vinyl in 1987. The 7″ single edit of the song has only been available on that original 7″ vinyl until now.
Recently, Pepsi announced an exclusive global partnership with the Estate of Michael Jackson as part of its new “Live for Now” campaign. Starting this month, Pepsi will launch a retail campaign in the U.S. and more than 20 other countries (not including the U.K.) featuring one billion special edition Michael Jackson BAD 25 Pepsi cans with unique opportunities for fans to access special edition merchandise along with access to new music from BAD 25.
The BAD album was the third Michael Jackson album produced by Quincy Jones and was originally released on August 31, 1987. It was monumental in many ways; Michael wrote nine of the album’s eleven tracks and received co-producer credit for the entire album. The album was #1 around the world, made history with five consecutive #1 singles on the Billboard chart, produced ten chart-topping singles, nine ground breaking short films and to date, the Bad album has generated over 45 Million units in sales. BAD was nominated for six Grammys and won two; the album earned Michael the first-ever Video Vanguard Award at the MTV VMA Awards. Songs on the original album are: “Bad,” “The Way You Make Me Feel,” “Speed Demon,” “Liberian Girl,” “Just Good Friends” featuring Stevie Wonder, “Another Part of Me,” “Man in the Mirror,” “I Just Can’t Stop Loving You,” “Dirty Diana,” “Smooth Criminal,” with “Leave Me Alone” added to the album once released.
The BAD World Tour was Michael’s first concert tour as a solo artist. The legendary tour included 123 concerts attended by more than 4.4 million fans over sixteen months. When it concluded, the tour had shattered all previous touring records for attendance and total gross revenue adding three new entries in the Guinness World Records for the largest grossing tour in history, the tour with the largest attended audience and the most sold out shows at Wembley Stadium.

Island - Greta & Jónsi - Never forget
Zypern - Ivi Adamou - La la love
Russland - Buranovskiye Babushki - Party for everybody
Rumänien - Mandinga - Zaleilah-

Der All-Star-Choir setzt sich zusammen aus Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Dionne Warwick, Donna's Schwester Dara Bernard, Lionel Ritchie, Michael McDonald, James Ingram, Christopher Cross, Quincy Jones, Brenda Russell, Kenny Loggins, Peggy Lipton Jones, Donna Summer und Dylan Cannon.
Der Millenium Mix enthält Auszüge aus der berühmten Rede von Matin Luther King.

Dear Creator: Just as all Creation is as one with the Universe, may we too be one with each other. - Stevie Wonder

| Crystal Hall in Baku |
1. "How Deep Is Your Love" - (1977) - No. 1 (3 Wochen)
2. "Night Fever" - (1978) - No. 1 (8 )
3. "Stayin' Alive" - (1978) - No. 1 (4 )
4. "How Can You Mend a Broken Heart" - (1971) - No. 1 (4 )
5. "Jive Talkin'" - (1975) - No. 1 (2 )
6. "Too Much Heaven" - (1979) - No. 1 (2)
7. "Love So Right" - (1976) - No. 3
8. "You Should Be Dancing" - (1976) - No. 1 (1 )
9. "Tragedy" - (1979) - No. 1 (2)
10. "Love You Inside Out" - (1979) - No. 1 (1)
11. "Lonely Days" - (1971) - No. 3
12. "Nights on Broadway" - (1975) - No. 7
13. "I've Gotta Get a Message To You" - (1968) - No. 8
14. "I Started a Joke" - (1969) - No. 6
15. "One" - (1989) - No. 7
16. "Fanny (Be Tender With My Love)" - (1976) - No. 12
17. "Boogie Child" - (1977) - No. 12
18. "Words" - (1968) - No. 15
19. "Run to Me" - (1972) - No. 16
20. "(The Lights Went Out In) Massachusetts" - (1967) - No. 11

Donna Summer may have been referred to as the Queen of Disco, but her Billboard chart hits weren’t confined to the so-called “disco era” of the late 1970s.
While she earned a string of smash singles on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the ’70s — many produced by Giorgio Moroder and Pete Bellotte — she continued to chart hits on into ’80s, ’90s, ’00s and ’10s.
Summer earned a total of 32 hit singles on the Hot 100 in her lifetime, with 14 of those reaching the top 10. She claimed a top 40 hit every year from 1976 and 1984. And, between 1976 and the end of 1982, she had more top 10 hits — 12 — than any other act.
Her very first entry on the Hot 100 was the epic “Love to Love You Baby” in 1976, which spent two weeks at No. 2. (The 17-minute long song was edited down to a more radio-friendly length of 4:57.)
Her biggest singles include her four No. 1s “MacArthur Park,” “Hot Stuff,” “Bad Girls” and “No More Tears (Enough Is Enough)” (with Barbra Streisand). On June 30, 1979, when “Hot Stuff” descended 1-2 and “Bad Girls” moved up 5-3, Summer became the first woman to have two singles in the Hot 100’s top three at the same time.
After a successful streak of hits in the late ’70s and very early ’80s, she returned to the Hot 100’s top 10 in 1983 with the No. 3 anthem “She Works Hard For the Money.” She claimed her final top 10 in 1989 with the Stock-Aitken-Waterman-produced “This Time I Know It’s For Real” (No. 7).
Her most recent Hot 100 hit came in 1999 with “I Will Go With You (Con Te Partiro),” which reached No. 79.
While her fortunes on the Hot 100 waned through the past few decades, Summer remained a force on the Billboard Dance/Club Play Songs chart her entire career. Appropriate, for the Queen of Disco.
She notched 14 No. 1s on the chart, including her most recent hit, 2010’s “To Paris With Love.” Her last studio album, 2008’s “Crayons,” spun off three No. 1 Dance/Club Songs hits with “I’m a Fire,” “Stamp Your Feet” and “Fame (The Game).”
On the Billboard 200 albums chart, she claimed three consecutive No. 1 albums between 1978 and 1980 with “Live and More,” “Bad Girls” and “On the Radio - Greatest Hits Volumes I & II.” She collected further top 20 albums with 1980’s “The Wanderer” (No. 13), 1982’s self-titled set (No. 20), 1983’s “She Works Hard for the Money” (No. 9) and “Crayons” (No. 17).
Donna Summer’s Top 20 Billboard Hot 100 Hits:

1. “Hot Stuff” - 1979 - No. 1 (for 3 weeks)
2. “Bad Girls” - 1979 - No. 1 (5 weeks)

4. “Love to Love You Baby” - 1976 - No. 2
5. “No More Tears (Enough Is Enough)” (Barbra Streisand/Donna Summer) - 1979 - No. 1 (2 weeks)
6. “Dim All the Lights” - 1979 - No. 2
7. “She Works Hard For the Money” - 1983 - No. 3
8. “Last Dance” - 1978 - No. 3
9. “The Wanderer” - 1980 - No. 3
10. “Heaven Knows” (with Brooklyn Dreams) - 1979 - No. 4

Donna Summer’s top Hot 100 hits ranking is based on actual performance on the weekly Billboard Hot 100 chart. Songs are ranked based on an inverse point system, with weeks at No. 1 earning the greatest value and weeks at No. 100 earning the least. To ensure equitable representation of the biggest hits from each era, certain time frames were weighted to account for the difference between turnover rates from those years.
Longtime member Elton John weighed in almost immediately following the singer’s death, calling the snub “a total disgrace.” Now, the person in charge of nominations to the Cleveland-based Hall has issued a blunt statement, blaming voters for the “error.”
“There is absolutely no doubt that the extraordinary Donna Summer belongs in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame,” Jon Landau, the chairman of the nominating committee, told the New York Times. “Regrettably, despite being nominated on a number of occasions, our voting group has failed to recognize her — an error I can only hope is finally and permanently rectified next year.”
Summer was nominated for this year’s class, but was passed over. Inductees included Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Faces, Guns N’ Roses and The Beastie Boys.
The issue with voters could very well be the genre of music Summer is most associated with, disco, which has a quiet presence in the museum. A scan of members reveals only two groups that could be categorized as “disco,” The Bee Gees (1997) and ABBA (2010) — however, both have diverse pop portfolios, much like Summer, who thrived in dance-pop and rock after disco fizzled out in the late-1970s.
Landau is correct in saying Summer “belongs” in the Hall, in terms of popularity, having earned 32 hit singles on the Billboard Hot 100 in her career, with 14 of those reaching the top 10. Her biggest singles include her four No. 1s “MacArthur Park,” “Hot Stuff,” “Bad Girls” and “No More Tears (Enough Is Enough)” with Barbra Streisand. In 1983 she returned to the Hot 100’s top 10 with the No. 3 anthem “She Works Hard For the Money.”
Other members of the Hall dabbled in disco during their careers, particularly Rod Stewart (“Do Ya Think I’m Sexy”), The Supremes (“I’m Gonna Let My Heard Do the Walking”), The Jackson 5 (as The Jacksons) and The Rolling Stones (“Miss You”), among others.
Sources say her seven currently available greatest hits albums, along with a remix collection, could collectively sell between 20,000 to 40,000 copies by week’s end on Sunday, May 20. (Up from less than 1,000 last week.) The biggest seller of the bunch might be “The Journey: The Very Best of Donna Summer,” which was released in 2003. Also performing well is her first best-of, 1979’s “On the Radio - Greatest Hits Volumes I & II.”
However, there are a number of albums that are certain not to appear on any of our charts next week: Her five releases with Geffen Records and two for Atlantic Records in the 1980s and 1990s.
Why? All seven of those titles are out of print — both physically and digitally — and are owned by Summer’s estate. They include Geffen’s “The Wanderer” (1980), “Donna Summer” (1982), “Cats Without Claws” (1984), “All Systems Go” (1987) and “I’m a Rainbow” (a shelved album from the early 1980s that was unreleased until 1996).
For Atlantic, she released “Another Place and Time” in 1989 (which includes the top 10 Billboard Hot 100 single “This Time I Know It’s For Real”) and “Mistaken Identity” in 1991.
Her Geffen albums have been unavailable since 2003, while Atlantic’s “Mistaken Identity” and “Another Place and Time” left the marketplace in 1996 and 2009, respectively.
Summer recorded for many labels in her career, aside from Geffen and Atlantic. The bulk of her material was released through Casablanca Records from her first U.S. album in 1975 (“Love to Love You Baby”) through the hits set “Walk Away” in 1980. While most of her Casablanca sets are available via digital services, not all are still available as physical albums.
After departing Casablanca, she released two Geffen albums in 1980 and 1982, and then issued “She Works Hard for the Money” for Mercury Records in 1983. While that album can be found digitally on iTunes and in other e-tailers, it’s been out of print as a CD since 2003.
After parting ways with Atlantic in the early ’90s, she moved on to Epic Records for 1999’s concert set “Live & More Encore.” Again, like much of her catalog, it is out of print on CD, but available digitally.
Her final studio album released in her lifetime was 2008’s “Crayons,” issued through Sony Music’s Burgundy Records. It debuted and peaked at No. 17 on the Billboard 200 and is still currently on the market — both physically and digitally.

"Sunset People" is a 1980 dance song about Hollywood's Sunset Strip by superstar singer Donna Summer, the Queen of Disco.
A track from the extremely successful Bad Girls album, "Sunset People" lyrically describes the lifestyle and diversity of characters coexisting along Sunset Boulevard. Composed by songwriters Pete Bellotte, Harold Faltermeyer and Keith Forsey, produced by Giorgio Moroder and Pete Bellotte, "Sunset People" combined elements of Disco, Rock, Techno and R&B, forging a new sound that was emulated throughout the 1980s. In "Sunset People," the celebrities, the music scene, the glitter and the glamor meet the hookers and the homeless along the world-famous boulevard, as Donna Summer's sultry voice tells the tale of pleasure and pain on the Sunset Strip. In a city where so many ambitious individuals struggle to make it big, Donna Summer put a revealing spotlight on the desire and determination of L.A.'s entertainment culture and escapist bent. "Sunset People" is a song about the fantasies and realities of nighttime Los Angeles under the neon signs, billboards and the endless parade of palm trees. This jam still rocks the Boulevard. Though the song was released at the start of the '80s, "Sunset People" by Donna Summer remains relevant today as one of the more insightful songs about California.

It's a topic that's hard to avoid when discussing the achievements of Donna Summer, who died Thursday of cancer: Why is the legendary singer not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame?
Longtime member Elton John weighed in almost immediately following the singer's death, calling the snub "a total disgrace." Now, the person in charge of nominations to the Cleveland-based Hall has issued a blunt statement, blaming voters for the "error."

Donna Summer, the "Queen of Disco" whose hits included "Hot Stuff," "Bad Girls," "Love to Love You Baby" and "She Works Hard for the Money," has died. She was 63. Her publicist, Brian Edwards, said Summer was suffering from cancer. She died surrounded by her family in Florida, he said.
"Early this morning, we lost Donna Summer Sudano, a woman of many gifts, the greatest being
her faith," a family statement said. "While we grieve her passing, we are at peace celebrating her extraordinary life and her continued legacy. Words truly can't express how much we appreciate your prayers and love for our family at this sensitive time."
Summer first rose to fame the mid-'70s, thanks to "Love to Love You Baby." The song, with Summer's whispered vocals and orgasmic groans helped define the mid-'70s disco trend and hit No. 2 in 1976. Summer followed the song with such hits as "I Feel Love," "Last Dance" and a disco-fied version of the Richard Harris hit "MacArthur Park," which outdid Harris' version by hitting No. 1 on Billboard's Hot 100 singles chart. It was Summer's first of four chart-toppers.
But with her 1979 album "Bad Girls," Summer broke out of the disco mold as the genre, which had become renewed by the success of the "Saturday Night Fever" soundtrack, was feeling a backlash. "Bad Girls" demonstrated Summer's vocal and stylistic range and produced two No. 1 hits, "Hot Stuff" and "Bad Girls," as well as a Top 10 ballad, "Dim All the Lights." However, Summer had some trouble adjusting to the changing times. Her next album, "The Wanderer," went for more of a rock feel. It produced a Top 10 hit in the title track but fared relatively poorly on the charts -- especially after the success of "Bad Girls," a double album that spent five weeks at No. 1. It wasn't until 1983's "She Works Hard for the Money," which became a ubiquitous video as well as a big radio hit, that Summer's fame approached its late '70s zenith.
The Recording Academy, which presented five Grammys to Summer, said she "had a dynamic voice and unique musical style that helped define the dance music genre in the '70s.'" "She also was an artist who crossed many musical genres, as evidenced by her Grammy wins in the R&B, rock, inspirational and dance categories," Recording Academy President Neil Portnow said. "Her talent was a true gift to the music industry, and our thoughts and sympathies are with her family, friends and fans throughout the world during this difficult time."
"I don't like to be categorized because I think that I am an instrument, and if you play me, I'll make whatever particular sound is supposed to come out for that color," Summer told CNN in a 2008 interview. "And so, in the overall spectrum of things, I'm just trying to be true to my -- what I feel my mission is."
Hollywood publicist Michael Levine said he was hired in 2002 to help Summer "rebrand and reinvent her image." "She was a victim of her own success," Levine said. "The disco diva imprint was so great that she wanted to break beyond that." "She would always bring a gift when she came to our office, which is not common," he said.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Summer's honor to the Salvation Army.
Celebrity reaction to news of Summer's death was immediate.
"I was shocked to hear about Donna," singer Barbra Streisand said in a statement released by her publicist. "She was so vital the last time I saw her a few months ago. I loved doing the duet with her. She had an amazing voice and was so talented."
Sir Elton John said: “Her records sound as good today as they ever did. That she has never been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is a total disgrace, especially when I see the second-rate talent that has been inducted. She is a great friend to me and to the Elton John AIDS Foundation and I will miss her greatly."
"Rest in Peace dear Donna Summer. Your voice was the heartbeat and soundtrack of a decade," music producer Quincy Jones tweeted.
Pete Waterman, who worked with Summer in the 1980s, said his abiding memory was of "a lovely person". "Whenever you were with her she made you feel so special. She had all the talent but she gave you all the credit. She was not a diva in any shape or form."

PASHA PARFENY : Lautar
Pasha Parfeny may only be 25 years old, but he's been performing in his homeland for the best part of the last decade. This year, however, he's about to step out in the first semi final to represent Moldova at the biggest singing competition in Europe.
He'll be performing the track 'Lautar', a self-penned English language track that's brimming with brass and has the feel-good factor turned up to nine. It's one of those oom-pa European stompers that suits the Eurovision competition right down to the ground. And for our money, Pasha bears more than a striking resemblance to Hollywood actor Edward Norton.
MAYASAR : Korake Ti Znam
The Bosnian entry is one of very few in this year's competition that will be performed in the country's own language, so for that we ought to give them props.30 year old MayaSar is no stranger to the contest either, having performed backing vocals for the Bosnia and Herzegovina entry in both 2004 and 2011. This time, however, she's up front and solo performing the number 'Korake Ti Znam' (translated into English as 'I Know Your Steps').
And it looks set to provide a point of difference between all the electro/pop, dance and rock songs this year, stripping things right back down to what's essentially a sweet piano-based ballad with MayaSar's lovely, soft vocals. Given Bosnia & Herzegovina is the penultimate performer in the second semi final, there may be some strong voting for this, especially from neighbouring countries like Macedonia, Albania, Montenegro, Croatia and Serbia.
COMPACT DISCO : Sound Of Our Hearts
Hungarian four piece Compact Disco have enjoyed quite the ride in their homeland over the past three years. Two albums, a swag of music award nominations, a record deal and an award for Album Of The Year in their homeland - all just the tip of the iceberg for the electronic outfit, who'll represent Hungary at the 2012 Eurovision Song Contest. They're placed in the first semi final (on May 22), so will be competing with the likes of Finland, Israel and Montenegro. The track they're fielding is entitled 'Sound Of Our Hearts', a song the band hopes will unite the people of the world with love, friendship and compassion. So far so good.
The clip features two very similar looking gentlemen living two very different lives, but each with their own unique set of problems. The track, meanwhile, is a mid-tempo pop track with a fizzing electro beat and crisp vocals. It's decent enough and the message within is admirable, but we doubt it's enough for Hungary to be able to take out the title on Saturday May 26.
RONA NISHLIU : Suus
25 year old Rona only officially became a citizen of Albania earlier this year, though her newly-adopted homeland has known of her for some time... She was a finalist in the 2004 version of the country's 'Idol' competition. In winning official selection in the Festivali i Këngës late last year, she becomes the first Kosovo-born Albanian to represent her country in the Eurovision Song Contest. The track is one of only 18 that will be performed in the country's own language and Rona will take to the stage at the first semi final on Tuesday May 22.
Fans of the various Eurovision drinking games, in which players take a sip of alcohol for every money note, chord change, outfit change etc, will be sloshed after this very number, as Rona's vocals are super-powerful and impressive. She hits some pretty extraordinary notes, but just when you think she can't go any higher... You get the idea.
IVI ADAMOU : La La Love
She may be only 18 years of age, but Cypriot songstress Ivi Adamou has already achieved a generous amount of success in both Cyprus and Greece after she placed sixth in the 2009 Greek edition of 'The X Factor'. She's since gone on to enjoy chart successes at home and late last year, was selected as her country's entry for the 2012 Eurovision Song Contest.
Ivi will line up in the first semi final on Tuesday May 22, performing 'La La Love', an English language single that's arguably the most commercial we've featured thus far. It employs a repetitive, albeit catchy chorus that will no doubt have the minions singing along. And with half a million views thus far, we'd say there's a fair amount of interest in the Cypriot entry.
VALENTINA MONETTA : The Social Network Song (Oh Oh - Uh - Oh Oh)
After trying unsuccessfully to represent her country in the Eurovision Song Contest four years ago, 37 year old performer Valentina Monetta is back in 2012, this time winning through to Baku after winning her country's national selection. The song itself ('The Social Network Song') almost didn't make it to Eurovision after the organisation deemed the original version (entitled 'Facebook (Uh Oh Oh)') to contravene the rules of the competition for being too commercial.
The other hurdle the track has to overcome is the public's reaction. One look at the statistics for the official video suggest that while the track is a topical commentary on the advent of online social networking, it's certainly pushing all the wrong buttons for most of its viewers, with almost 75% of all respondents giving it the thumbs down.
To be honest, we can see (and hear) why. The lyrics feel a little laboured, perhaps even lazy. And it's hard to imagine San Marino winning through to the Grand Final after doing their best in the first semi-final on Tuesday May 22.
KALIOPI : Crno I Belo
After 36 years as a successful singer and songwriter in her homeland, you’d kind of assume that Macedonian songstress Kaliopi would have done everything there is to do. And you’d almost be on the money. Kaliopi has graced the Eurovision stage before - back in 1996 - but didn’t gain enough votes from her European peers to make it through to the grand final. But this year, the national treasure will hope to turn it all around as she takes to the stage in the second semi final in Baku to once again represent her country in the Eurovision Song Contest.
‘Crno I Belo’ (which translates to ‘Black And White’) kicks off as a sweet, stripped back ballad, before heading into a rockier affair, resplendent with crunching electric guitars, strings and thundering drums. It’s not bad, but will it garner enough votes to get past the semi final stage?
NINA ZILLI : L’amore è Femmina
As one of the ‘big five’ nations at Eurovision, Italy gets an automatic green card to the Grand Final on Saturday May 26. Representing them in the 2012 contest will be 32 year old singer songwriter Nina Zilli. After winning praise at the San Remo Music Festival in 2010, Nina went on to gain top five success with her debut album, but it was two years later (at the same event) that she was chosen to represent her country at Eurovision. ‘L’amore è Femmina (Out Of Love)’ (which translates to ‘Love Is Female’), co-written by Nina, is the track she’ll perform.
Nina has some lovely Amy Winehouse-esque qualities about her voice and the song’s fresh and upbeat with a super-catchy chorus, so all that remains to be seen is just how many points Italy can garner come May 26.
