This easter was a blessed one. I've never felt so much closer to God than I have this past week. On Friday, I joined my roommate and some friends to attend a service on The Passion. On Sunday, I went to church to witness baptisms and spent the rest of the day at my cousin's house with the rest of the family. Many dogs (even a stray labrador), eggs (a military man and clown), and food (lots of it). Here are some pictures:

About my weekly updates, I'll get to those soon! Hang tight!

March 18, 06:32 PM

Every since First Friday, I've been yearning to go out again and wear my heels! Soon enough, hopefully. I have a bunch of heels, but the opportunities to wear them are rare.

In other news, I caved and joined pinterest, and I'm not sure if that was a good idea. It's soo addicting! Earlier this week, my tax return came in and my bank account is slowly on the rise to what it once was! Which is such a great thing!

For class, my roommate and I went to an AA meeting, and a SLAA (Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous), which was such a great experience. Many different stories and ways to overcome hardships in life! Maybe I'll post some of those insights later.

My parents also left for the Philippines this week, after two flight delays, and got to the Philippines safe and sound. I hope they bring me back some goodies!

This week also marked KONY 2012. Turns out the guy got arrested this week for public indecency and public masturbation. Not so sure about my support for the invisible children now. The story is really blurred and hard to make sense of.

That was just a quick summary of my week. :)

This post is coming in late, and it's still coming in at an awkward time because I have a big exam this week, but I couldn't push it any longer.

I liked this 9th week. I guess I could call it the week before the storm? There was a lot of time to relax, and also a lot of time to have fun. It's already March, so the pace of this year is going a little too fast for comfort. Everything is just passing by and I still have so many things to do before summer starts. I got a call from the coordinator for this internship I applied for, so now it's the waiting game. I have papers and exams coming up, I have appointments and things happening, that it's getting hard to keep track of.

In terms of fun, my roommate and I had an acai week and went out to eat some acai bowls multiple times. There were a few pick me ups throughout the day, and at the end of the week, I got some sushi and I celebrated the first Friday of the months with some friends.

Every first Friday of the month, there's a block party in China town where you drink, have fun, meet new people, and maybe look at some art. If I had it my way, it would've been a tad funner... my roommate made the mistake of bringing a 19 year old, so we weren't able to do much but stick with the underage crowd. We did however get into one bar, but only because I snuck her in. But hey, there's nine more first Fridays in the year. The next first is after Spring Break, but we have another exam coming up around that time, so we'll see how that goes.

In the end, I liked this week. There's a first time for everything, but I hope the saying "first is the worst, second is the best" applies in this case.

There were only two things about this week that I didn't like: my exam on Tuesday, and the grade that I got on that exam. Other than that, this week was a blast. It was a shorter week since President's Day was on Monday, but the week felt jam packed with its ups and even its downs.

I spent most of the weekend after Pow Wow last week studying... I'm usually okay with studying, but I really hated studying this time around and I don't know why. This was reflected on my REALLY poor performance on my exam on Tuesday. I literally cried. After the exam, we "celebrated" finishing the exam and "Mardi Gras" at Bale, a restaurant/bar on campus. In the "intstagrams" below, I got the one closest to the camera, a blue moon, and going clockwise is new castle, then tokyo tea, and an amf. Fat Tuesday also equals Malasada Day, so when I got back to the apt, my roommates and I went to Leonard's Bakery to get some malasadas after dinner.

On Thursday and Friday, I had no class because they were my off days for my Mental Health rotation, so what did I do? On Thursday, I went shopping! Maybe I'll post my purchases later? The peel off facial mask (below) I got as sample and once I tried it, I fell in love, so I had to get the full sized tube. I also bought some new shoes, and underwear from Victoria's Secret. I also have some kind of obsession with pens, so I got more pens. Friday was a more focused day, I stayed in all day and studied, studied, studied. I also played some COD, but hey, what can I say?

The week ended at Cafe Duck Butt for my friend's 22nd birthday! Cafe Duck Butt is a Korean karaoke bar in a sketchy alley way in town, but it was a blast. We started the night in the main restaurant area for dinner at 8, and we got some Melona Soju on the house! It was delicious. Reservations are key to getting a private room, I called in for a reservation on Tuesday and the earliest I could get a room was at 10. I guess a week in advance is best because I'm totally coming here again. I'll save the rest for a later post with more pictures.

Regarding the 8th picture of the year, I chose "time" as the theme, because it seemed I had not enough time, and more than enough time this week. Time management is such a key characteristic to have these days. Technology consumes us, but when you take time to get away from all of that, you have all the time in the world. This week was key in showing me that. All the moments spent online or on my laptop went by really quickly. The time spent offline and out and about went by at the right pace and I was able to enjoy myself, the surroundings and the different company. I'd love if it if I could get offline more often, but everything is so computer based, especially school work, even trying to get these posts in on time, :P

Other than that, enjoy my collection of old school Casio watches! :)

Helloooo new favorite Mexican Restaurant.

After Pow Wow on Saturday, my brother, his girlfriend, and I went to Los Chaparros Mexican Restaurant, and it was an amazing choice. Legit mexican restaurant, run by mexican people, and a beautiful bathroom. If I was a yelper, I'd give them a 4.5/5, but only because we waited an hour to get seated and to get our food.

For our appetizer, we got a Chipotle Chicken Chingalinga, which are like tiny chimichangas. For dinner, I got a chicken chimichanga with rice and beans, and the others got burritoes, my brothers was as big as his face. Once we got the food, we scarfed it down, and I conceived a food baby. All their plates have little mexican flags on them.

On the way home, and once I got home, I crashed from the deliciousness/oiliness of it all. I'm definitely going to go again, maybe try the burritos, the carne asada, or enchiladas.

Straight from their website, "POW WOW IS A GATHERING OF CONTEMPORARY ARTISTS THAT ENGAGES WITH THE BROADER COMMUNITY IN THE PROCESS AND CREATION OF ART."

The event involved more than 30 artists who created murals and pieces around Honolulu. It's a week long event and ends with a “black out” session where most of the pieces created for the event will be painted over "to reinforce the importance of process in art".

Most of the murals were around Kakaako, but on this day (Saturday), another event was taking place making it too busy to try and browse the rest of it (sooo, looking forward to next year). At the loft, where the main "get-together" took place, there were a couple of live-art sessions and a pop-up shop and music and lots of people, cool cameras, and fun. I wish I brought a wider angled lens because the area was a tight fit, not enough room to get around with a 50mm, now I know.

It's an event I'll look forward to next year. For more information, check out their website! http://www.powwowhawaii.com

Valentine's week! All my roommates have boyfriends, and they all received something from their significant other. It was bittersweet, I love the day and the flowers and the love, it's just the single part of it that I don't like.

Nothing special happened on valentine's but on Friday, my roommate and friend ate out at California Pizza Kitchen. We caught the weekly Friday fireworks show that can be seen from the mall. At CPK, I had some Garlic Cream Fettuccine (i love my garlic). We also had some Red Velvet Cake as well, so delicious.

On Saturday, I went with my brother and his girlfriend to Pow Wow at Fresh Cafe, somewhat of an art show (separate post), then had some delicious Mexican food. And today, my mom brought home some Pho. I haven't eaten so healthy these past few days, that needs to change.

This week Lent begins...

This week, one word - busy. Applications, appointments, papers, tests, work, hustle, and bustle. The craziness still continues. At the end of the week I had some time to relax and I really wanted to make the most out of it, which explains the late update. It was worth it and I really wish I could be relaxing right now, but I have an exam on Tuesday *sad face*.

I watched The Vow on its opening night and I was such a big old cry baby, I guess the movies are a soft spot for me. The movie was okay, I felt it was missing something at the end, it felt a bit rushed.

(waiting for a shuttle, friday night)

I recently purchased the new Naked 2 Palette, and I'm already in love! I'm not a big fan of lip gloss so I have yet to try it out, but the color looks like a really nice deep pink/purple?

I focused on different parts of the palette to focus on the colors I'm looking forward to using. Bootycall seems like a really nice highlighting color. And chopper, no words to describe it -- it's the perfect amount of shiny, so it's totally something I could use everyday. I'm glad they added a matte black to the mix, which I can use a softer liner. And the greys are great colors aside from the purples that were on the first palette. Half Baked is the only color that are on both palettes. I think I'll be using the first naked palette when I'm heading out, and the naked 2 as an everyday palette. The case seems really durable and will hold out if I bring it with me everywhere I go for touch-ups and whatnot. Looking forward to using it!

It's already February, 2012 is going by too fast! I played around with my lens adapter to use some lenses from my Diana F+. I wish the fisheye was more pronounced, but I think it would work better with landscape photos. I shall try that out soon. As you can see, I'm pretty much booked for the month. This coming week is especially busy with internship applications, exams, and long days. I hope I don't burn out! So let's see... this week I went to an epigenetics presentation on the effects of pregnancy, went shopping for my brother's birthday gift (a spoiled brother he is), had some weekly sushi with my roommate, and got the new Naked2 Palette (albeit, I'm about 2 months late)! My to-do list is still a never ending list from hell, and there are so many things on my plate at the moment. I'm really hoping the internship/co-op programs are in my line of sight since the turn around times are so tight, and next think we know, interviews are being announced, and it's summer. 5 weeks down, 47 weeks to go!

February 20, 01:57 PM

This first full week of classes was actually quite enjoyable. Everything worked out better than expected. I got my application in for an internship just on time, clinicals this week was challenging but refreshing, i got my sushi, and I lost 5 lbs. Took a bunch of naps this week, with one nap being rudely interrupted by a fire alarm. Actually got to work twice this week, compared to the zero times last week, so my paycheck won't look that depressing. The roommates and I had some wine in the middle of the week because my roommate got new wine glasses and we all just needed to cool down for a bit, even though I worked on an essay while drinking it. Looking forward to next week. :)

I love this guy's lettering, and I love this quote. If I ever get a tattoo, this would be it.
February 20, 02:06 PM

I've been quite obsessed with my hand-me-down 50mm lens, so that explains the bokeh.

Class orientations continued this week and it was a good refresher on the work load that I should be expecting soon enough. The upcoming week is our first actual full week of normalcy (or what normal is according to this 4th semester of nursing). Every day this week was a full day, Wednesday and Thursday starting at 7 and ending at 330 or later. Had to wake up at around 430 to start the day and didn't finish up until 330. Needless to say, I took my share of (3 hour) naps.

I decided to share a picture of this snowflake because Hawaii's version of winter came to a quick end and the hot and humid weather is back, not to say we had any snowflakes in the first place, though. The picture also gives out an idea of my location for most of the day if not in class or at the hospital, my desk. My setup is quite different from the last time I posted about it, so I might just post an update on that.

In the mean time...

It's been a good two weeks into the new year. School started, and although it seems like it'll be a busy semester, my roommate and I agreed to try and make our social life go up instead of down. We planned to take a healthy step toward a healthier body and agreed to go running/to the gym more often. We also agreed go to our university's athletics games, since we are paying for them out of our tuition. And of course, fit some partying and drinks into the mix.

On a separate note, I do wish instagram will speed up the release of their Android app, it just makes taking pictures so much funner and I would probably do it more often than lugging around my dslr. If not, I'll have to wait until November to get the iPhone (5?).

For this week's picture, I decided to share my latest purchase - a 15" MacBook Pro. Initially, my parents were supposed to get it for me as a gift, since they are taking my old MacBook to the Philippines and giving it to my relatives there, but the decision took a turn, and I ended up financing it and getting my first credit card. Yay or nay? Now it's time to pay it all off.

February 20, 02:07 PM

A picture (or a few) a week for 52 weeks. 2012 is off to a great start, and I have a lot to look forward to. Although the upcoming semester will be a a busy one, I hope this project will make life a little funner and keep me around these grounds more often. Cheers to the new year, hopefully not our last.

Something a lot of people look forward to during the holiday season in Hawaii.

September 19, 12:39 AM

We have an exam coming up next week, so I'll be the ideal student and study for most of the week. Of course I'll need to make time for some fun, but other than that, I'll be sticking to the books. In the mean time, I thought I would share with you my desk setup, and my bed. There is more to the room and the apartment as a whole, but hey, you can't have everything! I'll probably eventually post something up, but for now, voila!

Of course some of it has changed, these pictures were taken a while ago, but for the most part, what you see is what you get. And say hello to nimbus, and bagel. :)

September 16, 02:41 AM

Honestly, I wasn't ignoring this blog, I've just been forgetting to bring my cables to upload the pictures from my camera. And when I finally remembered to bring my cable, school got a little busier, and I just found time now to send out a little update about what's been happening! Two days after my last post, I moved back into the dorms apartments, and so far it's been great. The pictures above show you a sample of the great sunsets we can see from our living room. I've been cooking for myself, and cleaning, and slowly growing up. Five days ago I turned the big 2-1, and about two weeks ago, I went camping for the first time, well something like that. All of these moments have been captured on camera, and slowly, but surely, the updates will come rolling in.
So, in the mean time, the title of this post comes from the song with the same name sung by Mindy Gledhill, who is someone you need to check out if enjoy the likes of Regina Spektor. Listen. Enjoy.

I think the best time to look up into the sky is during the transition time between seasons. Summer is coming to an end, and fall is slowly creeping in. Although Hawaii doesn't really have a Fall per se, the skies are putting on its show. I hoping the upcoming Hawaii "winter" will be a bit colder, but I can't hope for much living on this tropical island. I am however looking forward to a quick winter vacation with friends to the mainland during our winter break. I just need to save up the money first.
August 16, 03:53 PM

I'm a bad blogger. Yes, I know. But these past two weeks, I've been working everyday. On Thursdays, I also have to attend child-birthing class for school. However, here are the few things I have to share. Last Thursday, I brought along my camera and took some pictures while at the hospital. I guess it's a requirement for hospitals to have some sort of peaceful solitude for their patients.
August 10, 03:07 AM

This summer, I had the opportunity to create a flyer design for our upcoming nursing picnic. The confirmation for me to actually make it took a while... probably to clear up all the fine details for the day, but I finally got the green light in an email from our class president. If you go to UH Manoa's Webster Hall, the flyers should be posted up and around that building. If not, above is the tiny preview of what they looked like. I took the background picture myself (as you can see in a few posts back), scared that I was going to get arrested if I used someone else's pictures for it instead. I like how they turned out, hopefully the word spreads, and more projects like this come around. I've also been putting off my blog design for a while. I could blame it on a bunch of things, but it's just me being lazy. Soon.
August 03, 06:11 PM

Just checking in. I'm currently at work (yeahhh, oops), dealing with calls about insurance clearance and people turning in insurance forms. In the mean time, I'm just browsing the internet, as usual. Annddd, as you can see from the picture above, I'm also working on some flyers for our nursing picnic coming up this semester. For one, I hate that when your print pictures from photoshop, the quality drops tenfold. So I have to go back in illustrator and change all of that. Also, I hate that laser printers make things look so much darker. Like what the hell? So I have to fix some text to make it stand out more. To finish it off, I had some typing errors, which is just a bi*ch that I have to deal with that. These things always happen when I'm making things for people. Oh well, i guess it's fun.
July 31, 06:53 PM

Summer days are coming to a close. The weather in Hawaii during the summer brings about a bunch of different moods. There are days where the sun in shining and the wind is blowing, and days when the sun is shining and... yeah, that's it. Although there isn't much to complain about, since other states have to deal with temperatures rising past the 100s. The weather that I hate most when it comes to a Hawaiian summer are days when the sun is shining, and it's raining. The humidity sky rockets, and whatever you choose to wear doesn't really matter because you're going to end up sticky by the end of the day. Yesterday, the weather fit the first description and it today followed suit. Summer's coming to a close, and school is about to start up again. I just saw the cost of the books I have to buy this semester, and my bank account almost/had a heart attack. (Oh, and the pictures above... I'll be using one of them for a picnic flyer that needs to be made soon)
July 30, 05:36 PM

At some point this summer, I suddenly became fascinated with a bunch of things Korean. Not all things, but most things. Of course, the k-dramas had some kind of (big) influence, why wouldn't it? But anyway, with that said, why not go even further and learn the dang language. Although people say it's one of the hardest languages to learn if your first language was English, I'm going to give it a try. With the help of talktomeinkorean, koreanclass101, and wikibooks, let's hope this learning experience will be fun and worth it. If I do this daily, as if taking an actual class, wikibooks tells me it can take up to one and a half years. But you know what? I'm up for it. To add on to this challenge of learning this language, I'm also looking at learning other languages as well, but will come in due time. To aid my learning, and my blogging, I'll try to post updates. So, follow me on my journey. :)
July 28, 09:01 PM

Most of the days I have work, my mom graciously makes sandwiches for my dad, my brother, and me. On other days, the filling is usually in the fridge in some tupperware. I don't know if it's just me, but mom's (or my mom) always have a way of making things taste 10x better than when you make it yourself. For example, a tuna sandwich. I use all of the same ingredients, yet my sandwiches still end up tasting kind of bland compared to my mom's. Well... I'll learn.

A project that allows anyone to receive postcards (real ones, not electronic) from random places in the world.

Genius, if you ask me. On my to-do list once I’m able to get a P.O. box.

Shoot myself in the leg, jump off a plane, be homeless for a couple of weeks, hug every stranger, live in a different country. So much more. I need a book, not a composition book (I hate those things), but a moleskine or something to write all of these things down…

Honestly

I hate the fact that I want to move to another state because of my mom. Today, she pretty much told me, subconsciously, that her world is ruled by men. She thinks it’s in a women’s right mind that we need to clean up after men and do everything in order to make men happy. That includes cooking, cleaning, and paying for their bills, etc. I guess I’m more of a feminist and feel that when a man asks you to make a sandwich, you tell them to “fuck off and make your own”

I hate this. I really can’t wait til school starts up again and I’ll be able to live alone 5 days at a time. I really hope that I’ll be able to convince my parents that I can stay at the dorms, for weeks on end, without having to come home. How the fuck am I supposed to learn anything if everything is handed to me during the weekend? Then maybe I’ll be able to prove to my mom that I’m able to keep clean and organized, etfuckingcetera when she comes to visit or help me drop off some things.

Fuck it, whatever, I can’t do anything about it now. Done. Story of a fucking teenager who just wants to get away.
