Profile
Summary
Driven to work with daring brands with the guts and vision to stand for something bigger than than a mere image or 30 seconds on screen, I believe that ideas should be built social, not fitted back into "social media." I also firmly believe that getting to the best ideas requires an empathetic ear, an open heart and more often than not, nerves of steel.
All of the above accomplished with a smile and more than a few giggles, because at the end of the day, this is fun right?

If this isn't the greatest description of an artists work, I don't know what is.
Let's rethink what education really means...
Slightly obsessed. With good reason. A smattering of my favorites.
Love this stuff. Simple clever little designs. If it doesn't at least put a smile on your face...I don't know what will.
Amazing. So much of augmented reality experiments feel gimmicky. This one is just kind of a natural experience that grows out of a pretty mundane action--the creation of shadows. Bridging the worlds of reality, fantasy and virtual makes this particularly interesting..I like it. At the end of the day, it's a really beautiful expression of "play".
Only in Paris could a sweatshop be glamourous. Oh how I want to visit!!
Oh how I love this.
Many months ago, I was struck by Plato's Allegory of the Cave. In case you aren't familiar watch the little vid attached, and here's a quick synopsis:
Plato imagines a group of people who have lived chained in a cave all of their lives, facing a blank wall. The people watch shadows projected on the wall by things passing in front of a fire behind them, and begin to ascribe forms to these shadows. According to Plato, the shadows are as close as the prisoners get to seeing reality. He then explains how the philosopher is like a prisoner who is freed from the cave and comes to understand that the shadows on the wall are not constitutive of reality at all, as he can perceive the true form of reality rather than the mere shadows seen by the prisoners.
The shadows are a great metaphor for where we have been in ye olde advertising world: the paradigm of a world of glossy images and superfluous words--a time and place where we talked AT people. The reality (real objects/communication/people!!) --people talking BACK, are the future. Sometimes reality is scarier than the safe cave we create for ourselves. Is it easier to just reside in the walls of the cave, watching the shadows of a different time pass by? Or are you willing to take a risk and stand up (and stand out) of the cave?
Loved today's the3six5 post courtesy of Rick Liebling. Inspiring and timely, do check it out. I'm starting to be concerned about creating a quasi-awesome post around 7/17...
And these are some doozies. Beautiful to quirky and somewhat ingenious (faux mold anyone?/)
Shopper experience is one that is copiously studied and evolved, yet often our evolutions seem to be seemingly miniscule in comparison to the changes that occur in technology. Perhaps some of us believed that a time akin to the Jetsons was closer than we thought. But perhaps it is... We all know the self check-out at the grocery store. Won't lie. I hate those things. As fast as they are supposed to be, SOMETHING always happens to me. Weighed wrong, card didn't read, blah blah blah-so I need a checkout person anyways. So for a fairly "tech forward" gal, I prefer old fashioned check outs. Now this little piece of technology could change all of that tech aversion. Modiv is not only efficient but looks kinda fun! My almost 2 year old niece would have a blast with it. I'm sure it also means a cart full of Lucky Charms and chocolate chip cookies, but who cares! Grocery shopping needs to be less of a bore. Time for some fun at Ralphs (or Safeway or whatever you have near you. Piggly Wiggly? I've always wanted to go...that name is enough for me)
Not usually an Oscar fan at all, but seeing as Up! may be one of my favorites of all times (who doesn't love a chubby over-achiever?) I had to watch. And was pleasantly surprised by some fun little goodies from the animated short film category.
Fun use of AR (reminds me a bit of Siftables from a year or so ago at TED in the interface and how the units react to each other). Could see how they could get kind of finicky to play with, but an interesting use of technology nonetheless.
Young Canadian team, so talented, everything you hope to be as a skater. And nicest kids to boot. Great free program this year, Mahler's haunting Symphony No. 5. Crossing my fingers for gold for these guys...next week we shall see if Canada will (finally) be able to win that elusive Olympic gold. Ah, the memories...
This 30 minutes with Tony Davidson of W+K has truly changed the way I think about what I do. Gave me great perspective when I really needed it. Check it out, you won't regret it.
