I decided to deviate a little from the Fashion aspect of Fashion Fridays this week. This post leans more toward beauty trends for Spring.
Today I want to talk about some of my favorite nail polishes that are great for the Spring season. Spring brings with it bright, fresh colours and my choices for the post part reflect this. My favorite nail polishes are as follows:
It was only appropriate I choose a yellow for Spring to reflect upcoming sunny days!
Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear – 360 Mellow Yellow
Mint green has been a hot trend over the past couple years and this light shade is perfect for the Spring.
Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear – 340 Mint Sorbet
A bright coral looks amazing with tan skin tones. This shade looks almost like a neon and makes any outfit pop.
Avon Nailwear Pro – Coral Beat
Finally I choose a more neutral tone because brighter clothes are also going to be worn more often. This shade keeps all the other bright colours you happen to be wearing in check.
Revlon Top Speed – 820 Stormy
I know I will definitely be wearing all these shades in the Spring and probably the Summer as well. They are sure to add an extra flare to any Spring outfit!
A few months ago, I made a list of skills that I’d like to add my repertoire over the next year. One of the goals I included was to become more familiar with the Adobe Creative Suite. Since I don’t have the program on my home computer it has been difficult to do so until now. Over the past week or so at work, I’ve had the to create promotional materials – flyers and the like for work using Illustrator This has given me the opportunity to get creative and explore what the program has to offer.
As a beginner here a few useful tips and tricks I picked up right away:
The above points are only the very start of the potential that Adobe Illustrator possess and I know I will continue to have fun as I learn more about creativity and it’s features.
Everyday we make a countless amount of decision from very trivial ones to perhaps life altering ones. One of the greatest gifts in life is the ability to choose. There are however some situations where we should
We can’t deny the fact that we have to make choices in our daily life, but like I said we should feel privileged that we are able to make decisions to begin, and that we on some level control where our life is headed.
This coming weekend (May 25- 26) Toronto is having it’s annual Doors Open weekend. All weekend long, Toronto invites everyone to explore cultural, historical building all across the city for free.
This year the theme is “Creators, Makers and Innovators” and features a number of older building that have been “re-invented” to fit the modern day.
This has been the 13th year that the event is run, which gives a great opportunity for people to get to know the city a little better. For more information on the event check out the City of Toronto website.

For a while now I’ve wanted a tattoo of an arrow somewhere on my body. To me the forward facing direction of the arrow symbolizes my drive to always strive to accomplish my goals, and to not waiver from “my target” and what was truly important in life. Recently, I came across a quote that added a whole new level to the idea of an arrow. It reads:
An arrow can only be shot by pulling it backwards, so when life is dragging you back with difficulties it means that it’s going to launch you into something great. So just focus and keep aiming.
I thought it was a great quote to keep in mind to keep looking forward when life seems to very pleasantly. It’s important to not get stuck in a mindset where we feel like there are a series of bad things happening in our lives and we can’t see to get a break. Being positive in difficult situations is not easy, but we have to try our hardest to do so because good things are surely coming. We simply have to keep trekking on and encourage each other of the fact that the world is not out to get us and that new bigger better doors of opportunity will open.
A fashion trend that I am really enjoying for the spring months this year are blacks and whites. Normally, spring brings with it bright colours, but this year we’re seeing the black and white combination becoming increasing popular as well.
Here are a few great pieces that incorporate this trend.
Button Down Shirts: These are so easy to transition from work to play and can be dressed up or down. These black and white patterned shirts are SO on trend (American Eagle, American Eagle x2)
Dresses: The jersey dress is great for a warm day and have a casual vibe, but still adds interest with the graphic detail. (H&M)
The dress on the right is not only on point with the black and white trend, but it is also has a high low skirt.
Double trend alert! (Forever21)
Jackets: The first blazer is great to dress up and create a work appropriate outfit, yet it’s print is versatile enough to create a casual look as well (Forever21)
The second jacket adds a new twist to the original denim jacket with it’s geometric print (Forever21)
Shorts: Everyone needs a little animal print in their life, and this pair of shorts are a great example (H&M)
Those are just a few of my picks for Black and White this coming spring!
The program that I am currently enrolled in a program at the University of Waterloo that incorporates a co-op program which allows me to explore different career paths during my four month “work terms”. During these work terms, we are required to work a full time job, submit a work report, and do one Personal Development course.
This work term I have enrolled in a Project Management course. The class hasn’t begun yet and will consist of lectures, readings and assignments.
In the coming weeks, I will share some of the things I learn from this course.
In the online creativity class i’m taking at Stanford University our second assignment challenged us to take a quiet walk for 30 minutes, make as many observations as possible and to finally create a visual mind map. I decided to take a walk on one of my favorite streets in toronto – Queen St. West. These are all the things I noticed:
For this assignment, I decided it would be interesting to take a quiet walk on a busy street. Normally, when I walk down this street I being quite the opposite of quiet so I thought it would different if I challenged myself to take in the sights, sounds and smells of this busy street from a different perspective.
I’ve lived in Toronto for nearly 13 years and it wasn’t until the Urban Quest I did a few weeks ago, did I discover some amazing new things about the city.
An Urban Quest is a scavenger hunt that takes place in the heart of the city. It is a series of activities that challenges you to really take in what the city has to offer. It contains a number of skill testing questions that can only be answered with careful observation of the city. Once the final clue is discovered, you’ve got to enter it into the Urban Quest website to have the final destination revealed to you. This final destination is either a restaurant or pub where you can and your teammates can take a breather after your adventure.
The quest my friends and I did took a little over two hours to complete and we did it as a competition between two teams. Of course you can do this quest in one big group and take your time with it. There are also varying levels of difficulty to choose from along with different city quests covering different regions in Toronto to select. The quest we did was called “Watch out for the Cat” and it took me and my friends all around Chinatown, Kensington Market and Queen St. West, and King St. West. So, these quests do cover a lot of ground in the given time.
Toronto is not the only city that have these quests, in fact a number of cities all across Canada have these scavenger hunts prepared on their website.
So, whether Toronto is your hometown or you’re visiting, this is a sure fire way to explore the city and have a ton of fun!
