Our first artist album comes from UK producer Olsen. Born out of conversations with a friend of the label, Totoro is an immersive collection of nine tracks drawing on house and jazz influences. Understated, original and assured, Olsen’s debut is an immediately striking body of work; a coherent mosaic comprising organic melodies and textures that effortlessly ebb and flow.
Super 008 comes from emerging UK producers Bondax. 17 and 18 year-old Lancaster duo George Townsend and Adam Kaye have garnered the attention of many with their woozy, dance-friendly R&B stylings and You’re So sees the pair drawing on soul and melodic influences. The infectious top line, undeniable hooks and intricate rhythms display talent that belies their age. Forward thinking, emotive and original You’re So establishes Bondax as ones to watch for 2012.
One of the best singles of the summer The Sunday Times
That idea of an indie band using the tropes and techniques of R&B, the stuttering rhythms and itchy glitchiness of 2-step, in tandem with a proper pop song bright enough to light up the charts – you’d think bands would have been queuing up to do that. Well, AlunaGeorge are doing just that The Guardian
Testament to all that is good about British electronic music in 2011, London duo AlunaGeorge have garnered the attention of futuristic pop-heads and artists alike. You Know You Like It incorporates the simplicity of a classic hip hop track with Aluna’s infectious vocal melodies. It is inspiring enough to coax UK garage legends B15-Project out of retirement to deliver a remix whilst Raffertie offers up a striking version.
We are celebrating the release of AlunaGeorge’s forthcoming single at Old Blue Last (nearest Tube Old Street) Sunday August 21. AlunaGeorge will be performing live alongside Throwing Snow & Py. Plus DJ sets from Raffertie and Super DJs. Free entry.
Super 006 comes from London based migrant Throwing Snow. Following his compelling 2010 debut on Alexander Nut’s Ho_Tep imprint and remixes for the likes of Gold Panda and Glasser he returns to Super with emerging vocal talent Py. Wallow is at the same time sultry, shadowy and glistening. Throwing Snow displays effortless finesse as Py’s raw, soulful delivery adds emotion. Py is joined by the captivating Russell Morgan on The Shadows I Make, an affecting arrangement built around the pairs’ contrasting vocal styles whilst As The Rain Spits sees Py’s vocal chopped and screwed for a proper drum machine workout. The release is completed by remixes from Lapalux, PhOtOmachine and Raffertie. Lapalux is in full effect, his beat collage blurring the line between digital precision and analogue warmth. Brixton based PhOtOmachine blends subtle elements of the original into a bumping house version as Raffertie brings Py’s vocal to the fore, illuminating her enchanting performance.
Following his inclusion on Hessle Audio’s 116 & Rising compilation, Randomer returns to Super with Obtuse. Otherworldly, tribal, Obtuse manoeuvres menacingly with crafted aggression. Obtuse VIP is altogether different, more terrifying and unlike anything else. Lost Everything is both hypnotising and intimidating in equal measure whilst the agitated flow of Dope twists a restless hook with a dark acid-tinged beat. A record awash with the percussive mastery and originality we have come to expect from the London based producer, it marks a welcome return.
Super Volume 1 is out now, including tracks from Raffertie, Subeena and Throwing Snow. Available from your favourite store.

Super Volume 1 is a collection of seven exclusive tracks from friends, admired producers and label artists. The compilation opens with Raffertie’s Ergo We Are Human, a journey from the industrial sounds of the factory floor up into space and back again, before Subeena brings her exquisite touch on Misscalculate, layering soft vocal ripples, synth pads and a simple yet masterful beat to create a track steeped in understated quality. Morris Cowan aka Taylor, re-imagines the elements of CMB into Afield, bestowing the magic of the original with a new wave of audio textures. The atmosphere darkens with LO:TEK’s You Don’t Know My Name, Live & Direct, a mesmerising rolling dub from Brixton based PhOtOmachine and Burn Me by Bristol beat-smith Skinnz, who takes a stripped down summer house melody and adds his trademark garage swagger. The release is completed by euphoric track Align from Throwing Snow.

Super 004 comes from Brixton based PhOtOmachine. Having been inspired to start producing while working for MJ Cole, the emerging talent has gone on to remix the likes of Speech Debelle and collaborate with legendary producer EL-B. Technicolour takes a refined, pulsing dub and works it into a house rhythm with vocal loops and layered synth patterns, while on Sine Language feather light ripples undulate over a driving, agitated low end beat. The EP is completed by three remixes of the title track from Throwing Snow, Optimum and label head Raffertie. Throwing Snow pushes the track away from its house influences and creates a warm vibe that highlights the understated details of the original, whereas Planet Mu’s Optimum reduces it to a dance-friendly bumping 808 dub. Raffertie completes the varied remix offerings, overhauling the beat to create a typically infectious, disjointed affair.
We are celebrating the release of Super Volume 1 at Old Blue Last (nearest Tube Old Street) Sunday February 20. Throwing Snow will be performing live with super talented vocalist August Ghost alongside Morris Cowan. Plus DJ sets from Raffertie, Subeena and Photomachine. Free entry.
