Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg will be giving $10,000 grants to Newark teachers who come up with innovative programs as a part of the $100 million fund he set up with the City of Newark last year.
Newark Mayor Cory Booker announced the grants on his Facebook page this morning, signaling what the city hopes is beginning of a long-running process to build a Web tech presence, and improve teaching into the city’s school system.

If Twitter users named U.S. cities, what would Americans be calling their hometowns right now? Inbox Q has the answer, after it drilled through mountains of tweets containing geotagged data of Twitter users’ locations. Some of the names are those that are often used already, such as “Hotlanta”…

A blog is a website in which items are posted on a regular basis and displayed in reverse chronological order. The term blog is a shortened form of weblog or web log. Blogs can range from the personal and business, to the political, and can focus on one niche subject or a whole gamut of subject matters.

Yes, you read it right – 5oo million members.Facebook is expected to announce this week that they’ve hit the 500 million users milestone which was projected earlier in the year for 2010. The company has launched “Facebook Stories,” a “visual memorial” to the ways that the site has changed people’s lives for the better. You can now submit your story here at Facebook Stories. Each story will be limited to the same number of characters a Facebook status caps out at: 420.
The full trailer for The Social Network, the highly anticipated ‘Facebook movie’ written by Aaron Sorkin and directed by David Fincher that chronicles the history of Facebook, has been released on the Internet. There has been steady build up of buzz for the movie since last month when the studio released teaser trailers without any footage showing the actors. However, this latest trailer brings the missing footages, and the movie is looking really fantastic. The new trailer includes many of the same brief and concise quotes that we’ve been hearing in the teaser trailers but this time around with the footage to accompany them. As would be expected, the trailer is loaded with scenes of Jesse Eisenberg’s Zuckerberg, Justin Timberlake’s Sean Parker, with appearances from the Winklevoss twins, Dustin Moskovitz, and more. The movie is slated for release October 1 2010.
There’s a new scam on Facebook promising to show you a video revealing the “truth” about Coca-Cola, but all it’s really after is your personal info. The message reads: “I am part of the 98.0% of people that are NEVER gonna drink Coca Cola again after this HORRIFIC video,” followed by a link. If you click on the link, you’ll be asked to share the video seven times. However, the counter doesn’t work, so eventually you’ll be tempted to click on a link that says “Cant Be Bothered To Wait? –> Click Here To Skip This.” The second link takes you to a poll, which — you guessed it — is the central part of the scam. It asks you for personal information you should definitely not reveal to just anyone or any application. As always, we advise you not to click on suspicious links, even if it comes from your Facebook friends who might have fallen for the scam. And under no circumstances should you give away your personal information, unless you’re absolutely sure why and who you’re giving it to.

A beautiful portrait of Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg has been created from nothing else but those tiny 16×16 icons are used in the design of the Facebook website.
Gone are the days when having separate credentials to log into each online service we use. Nowadays, you can virtually log into most sites and services using your social network’s ID. Talking about social networks, the most popular ones out there are Facebook, Google, Yahoo, and Twitter. But how are these social network identities being used? According to the infographic below, courtesy of Gigya a social optimization platform for online business, users trust different identities on different services.
Earlier today YouTube announced the beta launch of a TV-like viewing experience named LeanBack. When you visit the LeanBack site, a full-screen feed, personalized for each viewer begins playing. Using your keyboard’s enter and direction keys you can navigate the feed. No need for the mouse or for entering URLs.
