Hula girl at Eeyore's Birthday 2010

The audio track is a recording I did during an annual Austin, Texas party celebrating Eeyore’s Birthday 2010. The recording walks up to a spontaneous drum circle, enters and weaves around capturing various sounds and homemade instruments.

I shot the hula girl diggin' beats in this source video at the same event.

Skip Hunt, born on the wind-swept plains of Oklahoma, is a professional photographer in Austin, Texas. He picked up a 35mm camera in the mid-1970's and has never stopped sharing his unique vision via photographic images. Many moons ago, he was bitten hard by the wanderlust beast and has been canvassing the globe ever since. Visionary artists such as Pete Turner, David Lynch, Cindy Sherman, and Andre Kertesz set Skip's sight on a fine-art horizon early on. His insatiable thirst for rich color and even richer cultural exploration keeps him on the road most of the time. When he's recharging his batteries, he calls Austin, Texas home.

On a whim, we grabbed some "boating supplies" and took off to catch the sugary-sweet late afternoon rays shimmer in a Spring twilight.

One of those interludes where you have to stop and say to yourself "this is a good day." :-)

This represents a little "play time" with finger painting with an iPhone app called Brushes. I first took a couple low light texture iPhone photos of a Mexican blanket. Then blended the two images and finger painted/scrawled over the blended images.

These images were first taken from HD video I shot with a very low shutter speed and moving the camera around for motion blurs of neon on Fremont street in Las Vegas, Nevada.

I then pulled frames out of the video stream that I felt worked well as abstract stills.

I then compiled them back together into this slide show with a slight Ken Burns motion effect.

"For this show I wanted to play around a bit and experiment with abstracts. I was curious whether or not the nature of composed abstract photographic images consisting of mostly color and texture... would still hold up when sliced and dissected into individual pieces.

I found that they did in fact hold up quite well! And in some cases, portions were even stronger than the whole.

I then took the pieces and slowly dissolved them into one another to see if they held up still as a slowly moving piece set to music."

This is the Ahuehuete tree that has a spring gushing out from beneath it. Catholics in the region make pilgrimages to this tree and believe it's waters to have healing powers.
