Before you even think of doing this, I’d like to point out that I am not an expert, and don’t work for Virgin or HTC. I simply did this to see what happened.

Someone mentioned looking at XDA for custom roms. Imagine my suprise when I saw listed on this page (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695667)

RUU_Bravo_Virgin_Mobile_1.23.351.1_Radio_32.36.00. 28U_4.06.00.02_2_release_128941_signed.exe

This is a GSM Virgin Mobile Branded update for the HTC Desire.

I downloaded this to my PC (Had to update to the latest version of HTC Sync so that my phone was picked up).

I then ran the installer. Despite the horrible grammer in some of the instructions, it was installed to my phone and it restarted (took about 6 mins).

Lo’ and behold - my phone now has 1.23.351.1 installed

Ok, so the next job was to search for any software updates.

I found some :-)

I downloaded it …

I installed it…

The phone restarted…

I had a little message pop up …

And then I double checked the version

Froyo 2.2 installed on the phone in about 30 mins.

I didn’t need to use any hacks, goldcards etc.

I’m not responsible if you try this yourself :-)

Virgin & Froyo 2.2 - Will they answer?

For the most part, there’s been *some* communication from Virgin as to the problems with the 2.2 Froyo update.

Mainly that it’s broken and they don’t know when it’s going to be fixed. Other communications have stated that 95% of the customers have received the updates, it’s just the final 5% of us having problems.

With that in mind, can anyone from Virgin honestly answer any of these questions:

  1. For the 5% that have not had the update, can we at least opt in to download it?
  2. For the 95% that have had the update and are having problems, will Virgin provide a roll back to the last working version? (question raised and unanswered here)
  3. Can you explain the intermittent update from the 1st Dec? (unanswered here)
  4. Was this update only going out to select customers/firmware’s? (unanswered here)
  5. With the confusion over the various firmware’s that are in use, are Virgin able to share the OTA updates that have been sent out for the HTC Desire since it’s release? (unanswered here)
  6. Have updates been suspended? (indicated here and denied/never verified by Virgin here)
  7. Are there plans to push out the intermediate updates so that people can get to the right versions?
  8. Why has my e-mail to the support team on the 16th November (with account information) not be answered? (details here, I was expecting an e-mail back directly, given it contained account details)

I look forward to a (lack) of response in due course.

Walking home from work tonight, there were a couple of pricks (similar to above) who decided to slide the back end of their car out on the ice roads, trying to look cool.

I said to the wife “Look at those pricks. I tell you, it’s pricks like them that will have an accident”.

About 20 seconds later, we were rewarded in seeing them lose it on a corner and drive through a wall.

You little pricks.

Is this thing on?

Crikey.

In 20 days I’ll turn 30.

30 years of life gone, how many left to go? Quite a lot I blooming well hope!

Maybe I’ll treat you all to a list of some description.

Maybe I’ll just stay off the net for 30 hours ;-)

Potatos harvested on Sunday 22nd August.

Onions now strung up to dry (We’ve donated half of them already to our local charity Homelink - http://www.kingmere.f9.co.uk/Personal/Homelink.html )

Seen on a car at work - love it

The most stupidly expensive un-needed piece of crap to ever be found in Littlehampton. #Littlehampton #Bench #Shit

I forgot I had this … .

First harvest from the allotment - 17th July 2010

3lb 3oz Navan Potatos (from two seedlings, 8 remaining)

10oz of Early Peas (taking the total to 22oz so far)

1x 13oz Onion (29 remaining)

State Of The Union

Slept badly on my sholuder last night, and can’t move it too good right now (putting a jacket on hurts badly).

Three day working week, then it’s off to Alton Towers.

Had a very, very nice long relaxing walk this afternoon (Photo to follow)

Things are starting to grow in the Allotment (Photo to follow)

2lb Tench caught by me, Rother Pond in Midhurst - 28th March 2010

15 Days . . .

Yup, that’s right - 15 days.

15 days free of my anti depressants, that I’ve been taking for nearly 7 years.

I feel awesome.

Life moves on

Tomorrow morning I’m helping my mum to move home.

We will be moving from the house I grew up in for nearly 26 years, and where she has been for nearly 35.

It’s going to be a hard day emotionally. My mums new place is smaller, so there has been a lot of sorting over the last couple of weeks. It’s hard looking through memories that you have kept, and then making the choice as to what to keep and what to loose.

I’ve found many lost memories, and it has made me both sad and happy.

Sad because I forgot them.

Happy that I found them.

I look forward to helping my mum create new memories tomorrow.

Chris

Three years ago I lost my Brother Chris.

We all miss you so much, and this week is always the hardest time of the year.

We remember you on your Birthday and at Christmas.

I’ll never forget you, your smile, your laughter, you dead legs that you gave me.

When ever I need to see you, I can simply look up to the stars, or close my eyes, and you are there, right beside me again.

See you soon Chris, all my love, your little Brother, Rob x

Oh we never know where life will take us
I know it’s just a ride on the wheel
And we never know when death will shake us
And we wonder how it will feel

So goodbye my friend
I know I’ll never see you again
But the time together through all the years
Will take away these tears
It’s okay now
Goodbye my friend

I’ve seen a lot things that make me crazy
And I guess I held on to you
We could’ve run away and left well maybe
But it wasn’t time and we both knew

So goodbye my friend
I know I’ll never see you again
But the love you gave me through all the years
Will take away these tears
I’m okay now
Goodbye my friend

Life’s so fragile and love’s so pure
We can’t hold on but we try
We watch how quickly it disappears
And we never know why

But I’m okay now
Goodbye my friend
You can go now
Goodbye my friend

Linda Ronstadt - Goodbye My Friend (1988 Seagrape Music)

I needed my music at work today. I really needed it. So having plugged in my iPod Touch (you win this time @guriben) at 6:30 this morning to update my fresh library download, imagine my face when I saw at work how much music I’d bought along.

3 tracks.

FML!

An embarrasing photo of me, tagged on Facebook by my cousin Andrew (@justcallmeAJ)

I did some work for a friend, and we used the money to get this amazing canvas done, to remind us of our wedding day.
