Aeroplane remix a Friendly Fires track and dumb it down to a super smooth, sleazy, NuDisco synth pop track.
One day we're gonna live in Paris. I promise, I'm on it!
Sometime's I need a pick-me-up and there's nothing quite like a bit of "spacious cosmic disco"... or as I like to call it... Nu Disco!
Aeroplane have just landed another superb album called "In flight entertainment" and I seriously recommend you check it out. Think French Belgian filtered house, funky bass lines and super perky synth jabs. I know, sounds too good to be true...
Every so often I stumble across a track with an interesting history, and this is no exception; In 1981 performance artist Laurie Anderson wrote O superman, an experimental track which toyed with a minimal beat and spoken word.
Then, in 2005, Booka Shade & M.A.N.D.Y. stepped up and remixed it. It's stomping, tug-boat-like bassline plods along, dragging you along in it's wake, while keeping true to the original with the haunting, emotive vocals. Bosh.
Berlin is calling. Techno is something Germans do well, no, make that very well, and it feels like a right of passage...
...but I'm here, in London, it's Friday, summer hours are ending, we need inspiring and something a little bit mischievous. Queue Sebbo. Now make a silly face.
If you have been to a festival within the last few years you will have surely heard of Metronomy.
They played awesome sets at Glastonbury and Wireless, playing lots of tracks from their critically aclaimed new album The English Riviera. Their recent success has been driven by their relentless, seemingly endless, tour - in fact, there is no way you haven't seen them. As Roy Castle used to say, "Dedication is what you need, if...", you know the rest.
This track is one of their older ones, released in 2006, a bonus song from the album called Pip Paine (Pay the £5000 You Owe). It sounds mischievous and I love the retro analogue melody - less is more, and by less I mean 8bit. Decent.
What? It's Friday and you want more Crystal Castles...
...of course you do!
Now, let's go out and have some fun!
The seaside needs us more than ever.
This is a fantastically catchy track by The Ordinary Boys, made long before they were famous, still their best to date, and, ironically, from an album all about anti-commercialism.
You gotta love Aim's sound - a fusion of electronica and Hip-hop. He had to be one of the most talented UK producers of all time...
This post is dedicated to everyone working hard, staying late, working over-time and putting a shift in. Take a breath, relax, exhale and carry on.
It's Friday and I'm loving this collaboration between Apparat and Ellen Allien. It's taken from the album called Orchestra of Bubbles and the video is by Marco Testoni.
Listening to this will make you cooler. I just wanted you to know...
Right now, I'm slightly obsessed by the Crystal Castles! I'm loving their retro, and yet emotive, digital sound.
Were they inspired by early 8bit game soundtracks?? I'd love to think so... but I'd be wrong. It's actually a reference to She-ra's pink castle!
It's Friday, everyone is in a good mood and there is excitement in the air... Time for a weekend track!
Step up Duke Dumont, a fellow Londoner, with this great remix of a Mystery Jets track.
Finger waggingly good!
Breakbeat is the BEST music to snowboard to... and you can't get much better than The Stanton Warriors!
Well, what a tune to end on! Song of 2007?? Many people said so and I'd hasten to agree. Listen to the lyrics, understand them, live them... be thankful for your friends and a life without regret.
That's it. LCD Soundsystem week is over. It's been fun. Let's hope there is more to come...
Damn... I miss them already.
LCD Soundsystem are one of the most important, influential bands of the last decade.
Sadly, last year they announced their last album and recently they played their last gig. Woe.
Critically acclaimed, universally loved and with a hugely diverse fan base they set a president within the world of electronica. Let's hope many follow.
So, in celebration it's LCD Soundsystem week...
Their first ever track... 2002!
It's Friday, it's Friday... gotta get down on Friday! Nope, this is not a reference to Rebecca Black, well except the title which translates to 'Miss Sadness', it is actually Friday! It's time to lively up ourselves, here's something for the weekend!
SCSI-9 are a Russian production duo who revel in the eclectic sound of melodic european minimal. This tune is a mischievously wicked track.
Four Tet is the stage name of producer Kieran Hebden. He is best known for his amazing live performances and abstract percussion led masterpieces. His style combines the perfect symphonic crossover between techno and electronica... maybe with a hint of Jazz!
Even more exciting is the animated video. All levels of awesome and full of win! I have tried to unearth the producer or production house but to no avail. Who ever it was, well done. It goes perfectly. It's worth watching, all the way to the end!!
Cut copy, the Australian synth indie band, are playing the HMV Forum tonight and I'm going to be there! Whoop!
Think Depeche Mode mixed with Daft Punk and a side order of LCD Soundsystem... I can't wait to here some of the tracks off their new album... :)
During my morning commute across London I listened to M.A.N.D.Y.'s 'At the controls' mix. It's an eclectic mix of dance and electronica with bucket loads of perfectly mixed randomness...
The last track left me in a soulful mood. It's a old track by Coldcut which has been remixed and re-worked by Henrik Schwarz. It's amazing vocals are moody, yet powerful and as I looked out the bus window, the world slowed.
It is such a shame... Massive Attack are notoriously strict on letting people remix their songs. How can they ban this???
Minilogue have turned a masterpiece into, well, something better. How can you change such a beautiful, haunting song into a great new club track? Purists will scoff at the destruction of a classic but I cannot disagree more. Somehow he has managed to keep the songs identity and yet increased the pace and energy.
I can't get enough of it, could this be one of the best remixes ever? Very possibly...
I had the pleasure of seeing Caribou, Fourtet and Nathan Fake play out at the Coronet, London. The place had a vibe, I haven't see such a big turn out for this genre of music since Moderat played Field Day 2010. Is this heralding a new standard of popular music.
I hope not... I don't like to share!
So what better way to introduce Nathan Fake but to play one of his productions and a Fourtet remix? Nathan Fake is well know for being James Holden's prodigy, something I'm sure he'd like to shake off, but nether the less, he shares the same level of production and attention to detail. Fourtet then take it down a level. Perfect!
