Menswear, symmetrical framing, and Bill Murray are why I can’t quit you, Wes Anderson.
[Slate]
Bill Murray, Eric Anderson artwork, and what about those long, horizontal panning shots [technical term?]?
Glazed and Infused [take a moment to appreciate the name] is Chicago’s newest addition to the doughnut scene. Stopped by the Wicker Park location this morning, operating out of the back window of Francesca’s Forno, and picked up a Chocolate-Glazed and Red Velvet. Apologies to my trusty Dunkin’ lady, but the old-fashioned treats were quite tasty, and not too sweet! They open pretty early [got there around 7] and stay open fairly late as well, perfect for those 2AM munchies! YUM X
// The lovely people at Consequence of Sound gave me $100 to spend on records at the @CHIRPRadio Record Fair, so I did just that! xx
Anyone need anything from Trader Joe’s? Seems a bit ridiculous to make the trip simply for some peanut butter. But it’s not like I can eat my celery without it.
I gots the day off today.
We’ll make this brief, because it hurts too much.
During the first year of Air France, somewhere in the middle of the last decade, everything seemed to come so easily. At least it feels like that right now. We’d meet on friday nights to drink wine, listen to music and picture ourselves far off, somewhere on the outskirts on the big map Henrik had on his wall. The songs we made during those nights weren’t really supposed to ever leave the hard drive, but somehow they did, and somehow they took us to almost all the places on that big map we had dreamt about. We got to play records at the Rough Trade store in London, we went to the Red Square, we woke up on Iceland during a volcanic eruption, we drank beer at the cliffs of the Niagara, we spent a night in a freezing staircase in Warzaw (otherwise a fantastic weekend), we saw dolphins in the waters of LA, we got a smile from Larry David as he passed us on a street in Paris, watching us trying to open a bottle of wine, we played records for 4 hours under a blistering July sun in New York, we spent a day in the most beautiful spa in Budapest, we’ve heard our nervous voices on radio and TV, we’ve played records after two sold out Saint Etienne shows (but to be honest, only a handful stayed behind to see us), we’ve written a song together with our idol Clare Grogan (although we did managed to botch it) and we got sampled by Lil B. But it’s the little moments that has been the most dear to our hearts, like the days and nights in Brackenbury Village that we spent in our manager’s back yard with his wonderful wife and sons, who made us feel like part of the family, or being drunk on airplanes, just the two of us, and all the people we’ve been fortunate enough to get to know, if only for a night.
And we have probably produced 7 albums since No Way Down; a UK Garage record, a house record, an r ‘n’ b record… but we’ve never been able to finish anything, nothing was ever good enough. We have tried so hard, and we truly gave it all we had. And now we have decided to stop trying, even though it breaks our hearts. But for all the reasons mentioned above, and for a thousand more, we don’t regret a thing.
We wish we could thank all the people who has helped and inspired us, but we’d probably forget to mention half of you, so here’s just a big thank you to those who were involved in the making of the record: Teresa and Kajsa for singing so beautifully, Angelica of Body Language for lending her voice to a song that would have been called “I always think about you when I’m drunk”, our patron Kevin Campbell who helped us in giving this record one last chance (there are no words that can describe just how grateful we are), our Eric of Sincerely Yours, our manager David Laurie, our publisher XL, Joe for running our facebook page.
And much love to Rich Thane, families and girlfriends, sister Hanna, Henning Fürst, Marc Hogan, all of you who sent us letters, all of you who stuck around to watch us play, and all of you who opened your homes and hearts and cars and took us to water falls, big squares, beaches, record stores, monuments, valleys, mountains and zoos.
Goodbye for now. Who knows, maybe we’ll see you again in another shape. After all, we’re people that never stop dreaming.
Henrik and Joel

Hah Abed & Troy’s “normal” act from tonight’s Community reminded me of this scene from IT Crowd. Weirdos.
MINE. Bring it on, SPRING!
Temperatures hitting the upper 70s this week in Chicago, say what?!
Since Uganda is getting a lot of interest on the internet right now, I figured it was important to try to present an alternative source of information. Invisible Children is, as many already know, a highly problematic organization, but that shouldn’t stop you from trying to help. Here are some other sources of information, statistics, and ways to donate/help.
- American Progress’s 2007 report, “What to Do About Joseph Kony”
- Amnesty International’s 2011 report on Uganda
- Global Security’s page on the Lord’s Resistance Army
- Washington Post, “A Child’s Hell in the Lord’s Resistance Army,” May 2006.
- HRW: “Protect civilians from LRA abuses,” May 2011
- AllAfrica.com, “Amnesty International wants Kony arrested,” May 2010
- AI’s Uganda Portal
- Human Rights Watch’s Uganda portal
- Democracy Now!’s Uganda portal
Even the voiceless deserve justice. Watch and take action to help change the course of history.
KONY 2012 is a film and campaign by Invisible Children that aims to make Joseph Kony famous, not to celebrate him, but to raise support for his arrest and set a precedent for international justice.
Personally would’ve liked a return to 2D animation but I can dig this, too. Appreciated the nice tie to Plastic Beach at the end there, as I spent the majority of the video wondering what happened since we last left the Gorillaz gang.

On my last stop to the record shops, I picked up a record simply because I was drawn to the bright, yellow record sleeve. It was later in the day, and my stomach was beginning to take charge and I didn’t want to anger it [oh, you know how it likes to binge when it’s angry]. Anyway, I thought I saw the name “DIZZY” on the sleeve and knew whether Gillespie or Rascal* I’d be happy. After finally getting the chance to play the record, a few times actually, I’m very pleased with my impulse decision. For an easy buck, I picked up Dizzy Gillespie’s “Manteca” (The Funky Lowlives Remix) [plus, the original on SIDE B]. YAY ME. *At the time, it slipped my mind Mr. Rascal spells his name with an “i-e”.11 plays

michael-says-music: dream about me (the depreciation guild) THE DEPRECIATION GUILD was an american shoegazing band from brooklyn, new york who were making music from 2005 up until this year; the band just broke up after their final show in january. during their time making music, the band released two albums; in her gentle jaws and spirit youth. their sound is primarily split up between shoegazing dream rock and something called nintendocore, a genre that utilized and early nintendo-sound. it’s beautifully pieced modern shoegazing, and if you’re a fan of the genre like myself (i am a HUGE shoegazing fan) you should check them out.32 plays

Stopped by CHIRP RADIO to drop off 300+ CDS that were graciously donated by a super-duper listener [wwohooo!] and got a chance to poke around the stacks [local-recent/ local-classic/ heavy-rotation/ etc.] while chatting with Dave. Learned about some great, new, local bands while introducing Unknown Music Orchestra [even got him to play “Jello & Juggernauts” on air]! Anyway, this song is my current jam. Yum.0 plays

Gonna go “Balearic” all day, everyday now. You’re either with me or I don’t care. Think bands signed to Sincerely Yours, a record label based in Gothenberg, Sweden [Swedish music that’s catchy, I know right?! Hahaa duh]. Anyway, as LAST.FM puts it: The term Balearic refers to a chain of islands off the coast of Spain, home to Ibiza, one of the dance capitals of the modern world. The musical influence originates in the late 80s, when English DJs like Danny Rampling began to vacation in Ibiza, where the club scene ends with massive open-air parties on the beach at Cafe del Mar. Specifically, Balearic music has come to represent a dancefloor influenced sound befitting the warm sunrise of a mediterranean beach. The original balearic vibe: “Snappiness” by BBG feat. Dina Taylor, “Barefoot in the Head” by A Man Called Adam, “Sueno Latino” by Sueno Latino, and anything by Jose Padilla. Take from that what you will, but the music I’m listening to branches mostly from The Tough Alliance, jj, Air France, HOUSES, Mathemagic, etc. etc. I’d almost describe my latest obsession similar to that of my Chillwave obsession circa 2010, yep! Seeing as there has been a serious lack of sunshine in Chicago [c’mon its MAY, for crying out loud!], Balearic provides enough warm, beach-bumming, feel-good feeling aka #AUDIOSUNSHINE. This particular song is “SOAK IT UP”, its a really nice track from 2010 from the Chicago-based band, HOUSES. YAY!0 plays

Time and time again, I’ve referred to this song to sum up my life. It’s that exhilarating, addicting, feel-good feeling mixed into a disco classic from 1979. This song probably says just as much about me as anything I’ve written for tumblr, ever. Mmmm, loves this forever and beyond :) [Inner Life (Featuring Jocelyn Brown)- Caught Up (In a One Night Love Affair)]55 plays

One of the most [if not, THE most] romantic song ever written. Just another reason to love “the Quiet Beatle”, along with his brilliant curiousity for philosophy and spirituality that inspired John Lennon and the rest of the band both musically and personally. Something in the way she moves attracts me like no other lover. Something in the way she woos me. I don’t want to leave her now. You know I believe and how. Somewhere in her smile she knows that I don’t need no other lover. Something in her style that shows me. I don’t want to leave her now. You know I believe and how. You’re asking me will my love grow. I don’t know, I don’t know. You stick around and it may show. I don’t know, I don’t know…[The Beatles-Something]31 plays
