Thanks to TheDaily for making your humble narrator the subject of this weekend’s video interview feature, as part of a series on Instagram Photographers!
We’re so psyched to launch an exclusive new video series: “#NoFilter: Behind the Lens with Instagram’s Biggest Stars!”
First up, we talked to master photographer Steph Goralnick. Watch our interview, and head over to Instagram — Steph will be taking over @thedailyphotos all weekend. Can’t wait to see what she comes up with!
Collect one of each! Ok, probably no one will do that. But there are only 10 of each print, ever to see the light of day, so be sure to get your favorite before it’s gone. It will come archival printed with a signed certificate of the edition. Buy work from these rising stars now!
Adrienne Pitts had the bright idea to bring the richly colored powder used for the Hindu Holi festival to Phoot Camp this year. Everyone took a turn getting pelted in the face with the super saturated pigment for her portrait series (one of which is on sale as a limited edition print in the Phoot Store).
These are a few of mine from the sidelines, see the (growing) full set here.

Wow, nothing like meeting someone you greatly admire, and to then have them say they think you have magic powers. Thanks, Tyson!

The next Worldwide InstaMeet is July 26! Check out meetup.com/instagram to find a meetup in your city.
Tyson (@twheat) is an expat in Hong Kong who has helped organize many of the fantastic meetups in his new city. Recently, he took a trip to New York City and met up with several NYC Instagrammers. Sit back and listen to Tyson’s story of what it was like to meet up with Instagrammers whose photos he’s been following for over a year!

Color Wars by Steph Goralnick taken at Phoot Camp 2012
So I know I’ve taken quite a break from tumblr, but I just returned from my 4th Phoot Camp, and spending a long weekend in the woods at summer camp with 34 other photographers was the epic creative jolt I needed to get shooting (and more importantly, editing & posting) again.
The idea for this image was loosely inspired by the American summer camp tradition of “color wars”. To get a really good idea of what that is, I suggest you give a listen to the incredible episode of This American Life entitled “Notes on Camp”. You can stream it for free here. Big thanks to all the Phooters pictured here for entertaining my crazy idea for some colorful mayhem. It’s such an amazing feeling seeing an idea come to life like this.
And do check this out LARGER!
Slices of preparation I shot for the Studiofeast Doppelganger Dinner, see the full post here: studiofeast.com/2011/07/21/recap-doppelganger-dinner
And here to see a really large version!

Posting other people’s images without credit when you know who created it is not cool.
Reblogging the work of artists/photographers/writers and actively removing their credit is even worse.
The set-up of Tumblr encourages this somewhat - it’s easy to instantaneously reblog without giving much thought to where an image came from. And it seems to have led to the rise of a culture of people who just reblog things they think are cool as if to say “look how good my taste is”. Which, you know, that’s up to you, that’s fine, but consider this; each image you’re reblogging was created with love and time and hard work. The person who made it deserves to have their hand in its creation acknowledged and respected. If they’ve added some text along with the image, chances are because that is part of how they want to present the work.
I really wish Tumblr’s reblog feature wouldn’t allow the reblogger to remove any of the content, only add to it, but it doesn’t. So it’s up to you. Don’t be a jerk. Keep the credit in, keep the text in. Show a little respect to the people who create the things you like.
This is proper tumbetiquette, don’t be a jerk!
Co-signed. Keep leading by example.
Have been noticing this a LOT lately with people who reblog photographers’ work from the Phoot Camp tumblr and Photojojo tumblr, and it makes me sad. It has always baffled me that tumblr is set up in such a way that allows people to actually remove credit, especially given that most users are anonymous and there is no way to contact them. Dear tumblr: please please change this!

Oh, just a 6-Course meal served on the L Train. What did YOU do this weekend?
Quite possibly the ballsiest interpretation of the “popup restaurant” phenomenon to date: 12 guests were treated to a full 6 courses on an NYC subway commute from 8th Avenue to Canarsie, with a new dish being served every third stop. Courses were plated by teams either on the platform, or in the train itself, and served to guests on custom-built straphanger tables. The exquisitely planned and executed event went off (amazingly) without a hitch. The Great Gatsby was read, diners were stuffed, onlookers drooled. (see the full photo set here)
The menu:
6th Avenue: Hamchi Crudo, Bone Marrow, Trout Roe, Laproaig, Sweet Lime
3rd Avenue: Foie en Brioche, Port Wine, Raisin
Lorimer Street: Ramp Soup, Black Garlic, Cippolini, Morel, Thyme
Morgan Avenue: Petit Filet Mignon, Pomme Puree, Asparagus
Bushwick Avenue: Pepper Jam, St Andre
Sutter Avenue: Chocolate & Gold Leaf Panna Cotta, Raspberry Coulis
The lunch was Hosted by Michael Cirino, Daniel Castano and Andrew Rosenberg of
A Razor, A Shiny Knife
Along with:
Jonny Cigar – Winetology
Mike Lee – Studiofeast
Linda Lou – The Cheeky Chef

Teufelsberg by Steph Goralnick.
With a name meaning “devils’ mountain”, Teufelsberg is a fantastically decayed remnant of former West Berlin. Built atop a mountain of WWII rubble dumped upon the exploded remains of a subterranean Nazi military technical school, it served as a cold war spy station of the NSA. A bizarre geodesic wonderland designed for supersecret intelligence gathering, turned into a hauntingly weird playground for excellent photojaunts and exercises with your own echo.
Hey Steph! Good to see you pop up on my dashboard (with attribution!). Berlin looks awesome, and New York misses you.
oh hey, thanks guys! also in need of attribution: wikipedia (for the text :).
p.s. for anyone interested, this is a panorama stitched from about 80 shots.
Whoa, my photo got tumbl’d before I could get around to doing it myself.
Not much else to say other than that this place was amazing.
