I'm into brands. Specifically helping companies build strong brands across borders. Today that means merging traditional marketing practices with web 2.0 and social media. I've been working with advertising and brand strategy for over 25 years in Boston, San Francisco, Stockholm and Copenhagen.
After 18 years working as creative director for some of the world's largest ad agencies I decided to start my own in 2001. Today The Duffy Agency has offices in Boston, Massachusetts and Malmö, Sweden with representatives in Shanghai, China and Cleveland Ohio. I split my time between Sweden and the States.
I enjoy sharing what I've learned with others and try to do that in my blog, Brand Rants. I'm also a regular guest-lecturer at the Lund University School of Economics & Management where I lecture to graduate students on social media and international branding.
I'm Director of the European Chapter of the Trans-world Advertising Agency Network (www.TAAN.org). A member of the American Marketing Association, I'm also active in the Swedish American Chamber of Commerce as well as the Swedish Chinese Chamber of Commerce. Oh, and every Movember I grow an ugly mustache.
Before you even think about online networking for your brand, I suggest the following exercise. First, take your shoes off. Close the blinds and dim the lights in your office. Sit on the floor cross-legged. Place your hands on your knees palms up if you are alone, join hands in a circle if your colleagues are with you. Close your eyes and recite the social media mantra:

OK, now you are ready to begin online networking. Good luck.

Christopher Kenton is one of my favorite writers on the topic of brands. I first got hooked when I read his Business Week article "What, exactly, is a brand?" It was said to have sparked the sharpest response of any marketing article they’d published.
