Once you’re done watching a Charlie Rose interview with an old white guy in a suit, perhaps you’d like to watch these other interviews with old white guys in suits?

I love you, Reggie!!!

I love watching kids emote like they do on the show Fame. Makes me cry every time!
I have these bookmarked, and try to remember to visit at least once a week to farm new material. Stock footage is ripe.

So what.
I’ll miss you guys. Especially my NYC buddies. And especially the Blip.tv/AnyClip party. I hear the strippers will be wifi-enabled!!!
It’s like living in a Pauly Shore movie.
Here in San Francisco, you hear the siren song of a bygone era. A siren that makes you want to hide under your desk for fear of the Bomb.
This is a little doc about that siren.
“Membership in the club will not be expensive. Through March, we’ll have a special introductory rate of $4.99 for a year’s membership. After April 1, the price will shoot up to $5. No, this is not an April Fool’s joke. April 1 is the date I was appointed movie critic of the Sun-Times, and I plan to live it up.”
Yesterday I sat in on this conversation about the Streamys and how they get/spend their money.
It was like being back in the early online video days. In fact, a good portion of the vocal people were a part of those early days and though they work hard on creating their own New Hollywood Identities, they still have their brains grounded in what made us love this medium in the first place: that we get to make our own rules.
I’m all for things like the Streamys, though that may not be apparent with the sort of short pithy Tumblresque posts I make here occasionally.
The problem I’m hearing is this: Creators want exposure to the Streamys judges but have to pay a fee to gain access to them. They don’t have to pay, but then they may not get the exposure they want to the judges in time for consideration for an award.
At the same time, the Streamys itself is an overblown awards ceremony at costs $1400 to attend if you are not a member. That’s a lot of money to hang out with Lisa Kudrow! It also smells of how the Old Guard works.
Bloated awards shows do not make sense in the age of Lean And Mean Production. It seems like a lot of money is poured into this event based on the need to feel like an Adult, which bothers me because those who are passionate about online video are not Children. We are Adults as well and deserve to create a space that reflects how we want to live and the sort of world we want to be a part of in the future.
Maybe that’s the problem: Too many people looking at the past as a way of working, instead of embracing the change whole-heartedly. EVERYTHING has to change. Bloated awards shows included.
As an aside: I love how Rudy Jahchan became a Don Quixote on this issue, wanting to just tear down this years rules and just start over. I’m not sure you can stop this train this year, but I’ll be his little Sancho Panza anytime.
One more thing: I’m not a member of the Academy. I’m just me. And I love you.
UPDATE: The Streamys listened to said conversation and dropped the For Your Consideration fee. Now THAT is the Future!
“CA partnered with Foviance – a leading customer experience consultancy – to explore ‘web stress’ in relation to application performance, and its impact on consumer behaviour and buying habits.
Brain wave analysis from the experiment revealed that participants had to concentrate up to 50% more when using badly performing websites, while eye tracking, facial muscle and behavioural analysis of the subjects also revealed greater agitation and stress in these periods.”

“In a nod to the growing influence of online journalists, New York City said Tuesday that bloggers and others who publish on the Web will now be eligible for press credentials.”

What I’m watching tonight!
I got this through The Circle Of Trust. This is my second DVD they have sent me. The first was their doc No Impact Man. If you have the money, join the circle!
Does this mean I don’t care about the Internet anymore?
REN & STIMPY PRODUCTION MUSIC! ~ Get It Here (part 1) (part 2)
Cracking up at how angry people are because they are not getting press credentials for SXSW.
Let’s look at the above example: he’s a CEO of a (non-news) online media company. And he could easily speak on a panel and get a free pass, which I bet he is and wants to give that pass to someone else. (Sure, he may also write for HuffPo, BUT SO DID I. HuffPo will give pretty much anyone a column. Seriously.)
At SXSW, every Social Media Douchebag thinks they are press. Which they are in some respect, but really all the press most of these people do is promote themselves.
Not sure why I’m annoyed, but I am! Happy Friday!
It’s like everyone at the Public Access studio popped Vicodin before making a Rap Battle show.
I wish I thought of the idea first!
Beautiful little doc of Henry Miller giving the viewer a tour of his bathroom. Seriously.

Sprinkle it with doo.
Man, do I want to be dream-dipped today!
“Tumblr is a New York company and Posterous is a Silicon Valley company. Or, to put it another way: Posterous is an engineered product, while Tumblr is a designed product. Posterous is extremely well engineered. There’s nothing wrong with it. Every single thing about it is well thought out. But it’s not just that it’s less pretty (though it is). It’s just not designed as well as Tumblr is.”

If you are into 20yr old documentaries of youth from New Jersey talking about life, then THIS IS A MUST-SEE. It’s the Jersey Shore without the MTV and people from Long Island!
I would love to find the whole doc somewhere. Preferably on VHS.
Well lookie here: my second video in two days! I may actually make 20 vids shot and edited on the iPhone in November!
This one is about the limitations I put on myself for the month. And a little of Dio de los Muertos here in San Francisco.
Here on the Internet, in the month of November, creators of all sorts try to spew out content EVERY DAY whether they have something to say or not.
I’m going to try to be one of those people. I’m going to try to only shoot and edit everything on my iPhone, and post a video five days a week (I give myself weekends off.) With these constrictions, I hope to actually share some thoughts to the camera instead of creating fully-realized pieces. We will see how well this goes.
I’ve failed before!
Here is a piece I was commissioned to make while in Austin, Texas during SXSW. When you watch it, you will not be surprised this was what came out of it. Typically disheveled and throughly out of it. But the food at Maria’s Taco Xpress, and Curra’s was exactly what I needed when hungover in the heat.
Special guest apperance by good buddies Ben Brown and Katie Spence of XOXco. I love these two people.
First, welcome to VideobloggingWeek09!!!
That means I will actually try to upload a video everyday for the next week. We will see how that goes….Some years I do it, others I fail by Thursday. Place your bets! This video stars Patrick Earl Barnes, who I met selling his paintings during SXSW in Austin, TX.

After the bird attack on a US plane in New York, my friend Drew has started a coalition to help eradicate birds from the face of the planet. And I whole-heartedly agree to the point of taking action: I have accepted the post of Assistant BirdCzar on the War On Birds.
Please feel free to leave a video comment above. It’s quick and easy and it will help in the propaganda collaterals that need to be created to inform the public about why the government is in the war. And believe me: WE ARE IN THIS UNTIL THE END. (unlike, say, Vietnam or our Middle East “skirmishes”)
Hey there, long time no see!
Welcome to my new site that is still unfinished, but good enough to start using. It’s also VloMo08, which means I’m going to try to make a video a day for the month of November. (Actually, I’m only going to make one on the weekdays. If I make one on the weekend, let’s just call it a bonus.)
This video is of the first moments I arrived in Pisco, Peru to do some Earthquake Relief work with Burners Without Borders. The town, as you can see, is pretty decimated. A lot of folks have since done some amazing work to help rebuild this coastal town and are still continuing to do so until the Peruvian government will actually start allocating some funds for disaster relief.
Here’s a collection of unedited video that usually just sits on Flickr. Though normally I would just keep them on my Flickr page, there are members of my family who have never heard of Flickr. (Hi Mom!!)
So here are a couple unedited shots from there. I’ve resized them to be small so they don’t take up the whole page. Head over to my flickr page if you want to see them in normal size as well as pictures from my time there as well.
More edited footage will be coming as the week goes on. Hopefully.

The first of what will probably be plenty of videos of my time in Peru. This one is a LipDub that I made after spending 16hrs crossing the Andies, heading into Cusco, Peru. Came upon an epiphany while delirious for lack of sleep and dedicate this to B.
