This is the good life and anyone who doesn't think so isn't living life to its fullest. I enjoy waking up every morning knowing I'm pursuing my dream. Today is the youngest I'll ever be and the oldest I've ever been. What have you done today to be great?
You know you are in love when you can’t fall asleep because reality is finally better than your dreams.
I have learned through bitter experience the one supreme lesson to conserve my anger, and as heat conserved is transmitted into energy, even so our anger controlled can be transmitted into a power that can move the world.
“Do not believe in anything simply because you have heard it. Do not believe in anything simply because it is spoken and rumored by many. Do not believe in anything simply because it is found written in your religious books. Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers and elders. Do not believe in traditions because they have been handed down for many generations. But after observation and analysis, when you find that anything agrees with reason and is conducive to the good and benefit of one and all, then accept it and live up to it.”
~ Buddha
Real love can never be a cause of anger; it is the opposite of anger and can never cause problems. If we love everyone as a mother loves her dearest child there will be no basis for any problems to arise because our mind will always be at peace. Love is the real inner protection against suffering. Love is a virtuous mind motivated by equanimity to which its object appears as beautiful or pleasant.
People say that what we’re all seeking is a meaning for life. I don’t think that’s what we’re really seeking. I think what we’re seeking is an experience of being alive, so that our life experiences on the purely physical plane will have resonances within our own innermost being and reality, so that we actually feel the rapture of being alive.
If the red slayer think he slays, Or if the slain think he is slain, They know not well the subtle ways
I just started drinking coffee but I feel like I’ve been drinking it for years - great product and very addicting. This morning I made a cool purchase and splurged on a reusable travel mug. It’s cool because you get to design it yourself… any ideas??
Today for my business communications class we had to write a letter of reccomendation for ourselves. One of the coolest assignments I’ve had in awhile. It’s great to stop and reflect on who we are or more importantly who we are striving to be. I would love for all of my professors/girlfriends/new friends/old friends/employers to write a letter of reccomendation for themselves and let me read it! I understand that nearly everyone would oversell themselves but I think that is the best part of the assignment. It would let me see who they are striving to be and would motivate me to help them become that person. I think the best relationships are when people are transparent and you know exactly who they are. What better way to accomplish this than letting them describe who they are/becoming!
Once again, Professor Kern seperating himself from the dullness of academia so many professors have dragged me through.
I’m reading “Newt Gingrich - A Nation Like No Other. Why American Exceptionalism Matters” and so far really enjoying it. Gingrich has a great knowledge of American history that interests me but I’m really enjoying his views on family and work. He refers to other pieces of work (Benjamin Franklin’s Thirteen Virtues specifically) that I hold in high regard and so far it’s just been a great book.. Gingrich for President? We’ll see
I realize what is important and what used to be important is now trivial. I think the biggest example of this is how I look at holidays. Mother’s Day and Father’s Day have become soo much more important to me as I’ve got older. I’ve started to fully appreciate the rediculous/stupid/insane/crazy/unbelievable time and resources my parents have invested in my siblings and me. I also see Valentine’s Day as a special day for two people have become best friends and can reflect on the great memories and experiences they have shared together. Had a brief moment where I realized how much I love my friends and family and how much closer to my heart I hold them so I shared it…
How many deaths will it take til he knows that too many people have died? The answer is blowin’ in the wind.
