We really love this print created by Cape Town-based design and illustrator Warwick Kay for the Locals Only Exhibition. In 2004, Warwick graduated from the Durban University of Technology in Graphic Design and was awarded with “The Designer of the Year”. He currently works at Red Crown.

A cool series of postcards by 84/5 Studio inspired by the films of iconic Manga animation director Hayao Miyazaki. The featured films include: Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, Castle in the Sky, My Neighbor Totoro, Kiki’s Delivery Service, Porco Rosso, Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving Castle, and Ponyo. The design of the postcards takes inspiration from Penguin’s retro-styled book covers.

A magnetic hammer designed by Jung Soo Park that collects scattered nails simply by moving over them. Very clever.

Sarah Louise Matthews is a textile surface design graduate who lives in Nottingham, England.

“As a designer I have a passion for paper manipulation and drawing. My current love is exploring cutting, folding, creasing, slotting, and pleating, which during my degree I combined with hand drawn patterns, using textural mark making alongside linear, graphic elements and varied combinations of media to explore shape, pattern, colour and composition.”

After two years of experimentation, Brazilian agency ageisobar managed to grow fruit in the shape of Camp Nectar juice boxes. The aim of the campaign was to show that Camp Nectar’s juice is all natural. We think they did an awesome job.

The trailer for Baz Luhrman’s highly anticipated film adaptation of F.Scott Fitzgerald’s book The Great Gatsby has finally been released! The film takes place in New York in 1922, told from the perspective of Nick Carraway (Tobey Maguire), who is mesmerized by the decadent world of his neighbour, the enigmatic Jay Gatsby (Leonardo DiCaprio). The costumes and sets look phenomenal. The Art Deco-inspired typography is also a nice nod to the era.

Shakira Twigden created this beautiful foiled poster to promote herself and her design aesthetic to potential employers.

“I didn’t want to send out something that was my C.V. designed in a clever way. I wanted to grab someone’s attention – that had a sense of humor. People take design too seriously, especially when searching for jobs. I basically wanted to say “Hey, I know that your busy and have a team full of great people, but I can get the job done too”

We love South Africa. Our creative industry is booming, our food is delicious and we think it’s one of the most beautiful places on earth. We really loved this post by talented Durban-based photographer Tyrone Bradley on great local blog itswhatiminto, that celebrates Durban cuisine. Take a look at Johnny’s Original Chip 5 Cheese Roti.

The new YMS hair salon in Slovenia looks like the graphic styles and colours of the 1980′s exploded in a single room. YMS is part of hair salon chain Mič Styling, which is aimed at a younger and trendier crowd. The interiors feature seven different custom made mirrors designed to keep things as wild as possible, a sofa and a coffee-table gives the waiting area a bit of flair and every wall got covered in cut hair inspired textures.

The interior design was created by creative duo Kitsch-Nitsch, here is some info about them:

“We believe design is taken too seriously, life is taken too seriously and styling is not taken seriously enough. We are old, but look young, straight, but look gay, married and have sons, but none of that was ever planned. Being superficial, as we are, we love all things neon and chrome.”
