About a month ago I bought Rocket, which is Working for a Nuclear Free City's 2007 EP. This thing was shrinkwrapped and sitting pretty at a thrift store. I couldn't pass it up, seeing as how it was only $1. And an import.
My favorite part of the EP is the fact that the cover art is red whereas the CD is a magenta-like color. Damn, I just love the cover art. It's got that whole minimalism thing to it. Oh, my other favorite part: the 'PROMO ONLY NOT FOR RESALE' sticker on the back. HAHAHA! Sweet!
It's pretty funny how I noticed the EP. I saw it there in the music section of the thrift store about 6 months before I went back and saw that it was still there. I never heard of this band. Then I heard a song called "Silent Times" [Off their 2010 album, Jojo Burger Tempest] and loved it. Went back to the store, saw the EP that I saw 6 months prior, read the name of the band on it, recognized it and bought it. And I've loved it ever since.
Tracklisting:
1. Rocket
2. Heaven Kissing Hill
3. Waiting Game
4. Stone Cold

Got six CDs Saturday...used of course. Let's just focus on one today. It's The Weekend EP [2002] by Hey Mercedes.
I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw this one. Hey Mercedes were so underrated and unappreciated. I love the way they play little fills between the verse and the chorus, the chorus and the verse. It's brilliant, I tell you! Pure brillance! MMWAAAHAHAHA!!
"Our Weekend Starts on Wednesday" is from their Everynight Fire Works [2001] album. While "Save a Life" and "Everybody's Working for the Weak" are the Japanese bonus tracks from said album. Be sure to keep an ear out for the hidden track "The Promise", a sweet When In Rome cover.

Well, I found this one at the TDSL Resale Center some months ago brand new; it was still shrinkwrapped. [I also found Killer Instinct for SNES. Oh, yeah.] This is Not a New Album is a 2001 re-issue of Dogwood's 1998 self-titled album.
If I were to use one sentence to describe Dogwood and their albums, it would be this: Dogwood gels substance and energy into a chunky stew of hardcore. There. Now, I'm a critic. YAY!
Tracklisting:
- "Firehead"
- "Belligerent Love"
- "Steinslinger"
- "Old Friends"
- "Preschool Days"
- "Suffer"
- "The Rise & Fall of Belinda & Ivan"
- "We Have No Talent"
- "What I Should Have Said"
- "Abandoned"
- "Redefine Defiance"
- "Progression"
Standout Track(s):
Preschool Days ... sad, yet happy.
The Rise & Fall of Belinda & Ivan ... drugs are a bitch.
Progression ... the ending is reassuring.
Firehead ... if there was a mixtape for the Rapture, this song would be track 1.

Oh, my Sweet And Tender Hooligan, quit acting like The Boy With The Thorn In His Side. Don't you know That Joke Isn't Funny Anymore? And don't tell me, "Stop Me If You Think You've Heard This One Before" or "William, It Was Really Nothing". It is apparent that you're Still Ill. You truly need to go Back to the Old House so you can Stretch Out And Wait. This Night Has Opened My Eyes and I see you for the Handsome Devil you are. You've Got Everything Now,... Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want. Accept Yourself for the Rusholme Ruffians that you and you're ilk are, right now.
Well I Wonder, How Soon Is Now, but What Difference Does It Make? These Things Take Time and you're going Nowhere Fast. There Is A Light That Never Goes Out, but Frankly Mr. Shankly, You Just Haven't Earned It Yet, Baby.
You run about as though Everyday Is Like Sunday and we are tired of it. I was Driving Your Girlfriend Home and she told me she had never been so Disappointed in you. Now, more than ever, You're Gonna Need Someone On Your Side. If you have any, Hold On To Your Friends. Hate is an Interesting Drug and We Hate It When Our Friends Become Successful, but The More You Ignore Me, The Closer I Get. You are getting old and your Lucky Lisp is wearing off. The Last Of The Famous International Playboys is laughing at you. So, Little Man, What Now? Say that you're sorry and cut an Asian Rut's lawn or take a Mute Witness out to dinner; Such A Little Thing Makes Such A Big Difference. Hopefully, by Tomorrow, you'd have put those Suedehead days behind you. Believe me, I Know It's Gonna Happen Someday.
Thank You:
Deceiver

I bought this around 2005 and was surprised to find it; I thought someone gave it away because they thought it was the Swedish version. Or maybe they didn't want the promo version, or maybe they 86'ed a box of their exes' belongings. Either way, it worked out for me. Kent never made it big in America, although they still can. They were constantly compared to Radiohead and not in a good way, even though Radiohead is overrated.
So, to sum it up: Swedish band plays BritPop. Gets assailed by critics as 'Radiohead copyists'. Stops releasing english versions of their albums. Critics go on with their sanctimonious lives.
Music Non Stop and Just Like Money were the first tracks I heard from this album, around 2000-2001. This is perfect listening for wintertime. It'll make you feel all warm and fuzzy.
Tracklisting:
- The King is Dead – 4:17
- Revolution & I Don't Care – 3:10
- Music Non Stop – 4:35
- Kevlar Soul – 4:29
- Stop Me June (Little Ego) – 6:22
- Heavenly Junkies – 4:04
- Stay With Me – 3:57
- Quiet Heart – 5:23
- Just Like Money – 4:16
- Rollercoaster (If I Fall) – 4:54
- Protection – 4:46
- Whistle Song – 7:47
Standout Track(s):
Rollercoaster (If I Fall) ... perfect winter song.
Just Like Money ... nice groove track.
Music Non Stop ... another nice groove track.
Revolution & I Don't Care ... makes you wanna drive fast over ice patched roads.
Revolution & I Don't Care ... makes you wanna drive fast over ice patched roads.
Kevlar Soul ... a sweet ballad-ish song complete with harmonica.
