Angel Cube kicked off with a big day one at the head quarters of Flippa, Sitepoint, Learnable & Sitepoint. 4 Floors highlighting some of Melbourne’s most innovative startups, a great goal for all the Angel Cube companies.
It didn’t take long for the deconstruction of the Angel Cube startup’s to begin. Being day 1, no one really knew exactly what the other startup’s were doing. It didn’t take long before ggBet became dragon racing betting & Tony Mittlemark our first happy customer.
Lean canvas, product-market fit and MVP were quickly rammed home to everyone, the process of building a lean start up had already begun.
It was quite a shock to realise we had been building a product without any knowledge of whether product market fit had been achieved yet. Every mention of ‘key assumptions’ sent a shiver down my spine. I realised everything in my business had simply been assumed true and a product had been built upon those assumptions. There was some evidence that the assumption may have been correct, a 3rd party signed up, some users active on the site, but certainly not enough to be building out the product to the extent to which we had.
So the deconstruction process began. Development tools went down and it was back to the drawing board to test our assumption and engage in customer development.
The most interesting development was in what is an MVP. I was under the impression that we had built an MVP, although I called it a prototype. Our prototype was a cut down version of what we wanted our full application to be, and much closer to the full application than the prototype. Rather than pull down what we had, we are looking at ways to begin test MVP’s within our prototype to test new features prior to actually building them.
