    this is the one i’ve been thinking about the most over the last many months. i love the title’s parenthetical and that the title’s parenthetical is a parenthetical and the number of years spent on this particular performance.

    in my ongoing series of irrelevant one-woman protests, i have long (long, long) refused to even glance at a claes oldenburg, because whatever privacy concerns, fuck that guy. i’ll look at his beautiful sculpted laundry lint, though.

  • browsing around in video land, i came across a video which called itself brechtian. and the music was by tchaikovsky. big no-no: non-ironically mixing a romantic with someone who was avant-garde and *had* some pretty good theories about the use of sound + music. hint: just because something is “old” doesn’t mean it shares anything else with other “old” things. this sort of remixing is par for the course in the modern world, but it’s so much nicer to see it done when someone gets it. which reminded me of people who *did* get brecht, like The Doors. so, here’s b.brecht’s/ k. weil’s Alabama Whiskey bar, which was part of two operas, the better known one being The Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny from 1930.
