Business Card Stamps
Inspired by a design competition to put a creative new spin on the conventional business card, Mikey Burton and Cranky Pressman have created this ingenious business card stamp. At only 3/4” wide, this self-inking stamp is made for a business card, but can be placed almost anywhere. Try not to go too crazy, though. Self-promotion can sometimes go too far.

I already posted this, but this is so good!
I’m getting this book when we have kids.
Bye Bye Cable on Flickr.
In March 2012 we finally decided to say bye bye to cable. I’ve been thoroughly inspired by Jared Cocken and his guide to cutting cable and backing up. When I first came across his guide, I didn’t pay much attention to the cable cutting part but only to the backing up part. At the time I first came across his guide I lived in an apartment therefore I wasn’t focused too hard on saving money, well since then my wife and I bought a house and we currently are trying to cut costs in any place possible. Cable was one of those places. We will be saving $80 each month from canceling our cable service and keeping only our internet service. As it turns out, the internet is all we need. The internet is all you would need to say bye bye to cable. I am still tinkering with the setup since it’s only been about a month since writing this that we cut our cable, but here is a quick rundown of our current setup:
Closet:
Router
Airport Extreme
HDTV Antenna
Mohu Leaf
Our house came with all the coaxial and cat5 gathered in our master bedroom closet. This makes networking our whole house quite easy. The Mohu Leaf is hung in the closet and runs into a coaxial splitter which runs to each room into the house. The free Time Warner modem was replaced with a Motorola SB6120 DOCSIS 3.0, this pretty much doubled our speed and reliability. This modem then plugs into the Airport Extreme. The Airport Extreme then acts as a wireless router and switch with cat5 for the whole house network.
Living Room:
Samsung 1080p LCD
Network Mohu Leaf
Apple TV 1080p
iTunes Movies, Netflix, Airplay, Plex via Airplay
Mac mini
Plex media server, Plex, Amazon Instant Video, Hulu Desktop, Transmission, TVShows 2, Catch, showRSS, Spotify
Backup
Backblaze
Time Machine
Dropbox
iCloud
Xbox
Zune, Netflix, Hulu+
WD My Book 1TB
Storage
WD My Book 1TB
Time Machine
D-Link Switch
Home network
The Mac mini provides the Plex media server for all mobile devices and for the Rokus. The Mac mini also can be used for watching Hulu, however if we don’t want to wait for the next day to watch our shows we use a combination of TVShows 2, showRSS, Catch, and Transmission. Since we have the Mohu Leaf networked to watch basic channels and since we pay for Hulu+, I don’t think it’s wrong to download my shows the same time they air. The reason I use showRSS and TVShows 2 is for reliability, sometimes TVShows is down and sometimes showRSS is down. Allowing both to run at the same time ensures my shows will download on time and/or before they air on the west coast. We can also use the Mac mini to watch Amazon Instant Video or any other website that has shows not available on Hulu or Netflix. We use Plex to watch our collection of movies, shows, and to listen to Spotify. The Mac mini has 2 external drives, one is a Time Machine drive for all the macs in the house and for the other drive that has all our media on it. The Mac mini backs up to Backblaze which covers our external media drive and anything on the Mac mini. The Xbox has all the same stuff really as the Mac but it’s more user friendly to watch Netflix and Hulu+. Especially with the Kinect, my wife and I will be like the people on Wall-E in no time. The Apple TV is really just an Airplay device. I feel the Apple TV acts as the nostalgia of just turning on the TV and having something going. I say this because when I get home from work now I just turn on the TV and Airplay Spotify and let the Flickr screensaver takeover, then when my shows download I fire up the Plex app on my iPhone or iPad and Airplay that to the Apple TV. The Mohu Leaf provides the basic channels and we rarely even use it, but the picture quality is great and when we have company over we throw it on so their mind doesn’t melt at the fact that we don’t have cable.
Master Bedroom:
LG 1080p LCD
Network Mohu Leaf
Apple TV 720p
iTunes Movies, Netflix, Airplay, Plex via Airplay
Roku 2 XD 1080p
Plex, Amazon Instant Video, Netflix, Hulu+
The Apple TV and Roku are a perfect combination. They enable us to watch anything that has already aired via Hulu+ and to play anything currently on the Plex media server. The Roku is great, it’s basically worth it for just Hulu+ and the Plex channel. The Apple TV is for any general Airplay needs.
Room 1:
Sony 720p LCD
Network Mohu Leaf
Roku LT 720p
Plex, Amazon Instant Video, Netflix, Hulu+
This Roku was a steal at $49.99! It’s only 720p, which is fine for this TV, and it offers everything we need with Plex and Hulu+.
Computers & Mobiles:
Computers
iMac & Macbook Air
Backup
Network Time Machine
Dropbox
iCloud
Mobile
iPad
Plex, Hulu+, Netflix, Airplay, Spotify
iPhone
Plex, Hulu+, Netflix, Airplay, Spotify
Backup
iCloud
They all backup to the Time Machine, iCould, and Dropbox. I manage the Mac mini from the Macbook Air with the share screen feature. The mobile devices are used to watch content whenever and wherever. They also act as the rowmote for the Apple TVs and Mac mini and work great with Plex sending content via Airplay.
This looks pretty great.
If I won the current lottery, I would buy this house in Costa Rica.

I wouldn’t mind this in my house. Minus all the false god heads/figures.
I am definitely making these when I get home (minus the nutritional yeast).
