Back in January, newcomer ZZ Ward lent her soulful voice to a collection of notable hip-hop instrumentals made famous by artists like Tyler The Creator, Freddie Gibbs, and Kendrick Lamar. The clash of the Oregon native’s bluesy vocals with dark hip-hop instrumentals made for a pretty intriguing introduction to a fresh new talent. Needless to say, the ears of open-minded listeners around the country were piqued. Eleven months later, it seems Ward has caught the attention of some of the same rappers who had inspired her as well. Among that group is Kendrick Lamar.
