The Philosophy and Literature Workshop is hosted by the
Philosophy and Literature Network, a joint venture of the Institute for the
Philosophy of Language of the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences of
Universidade Nova de Lisboa, and the Program in Literary Theory of the Faculty
of Letters of the University of Lisbon. The Workshop is a place for debate
amongst students, researchers and faculty, about questions raised in the humanities, especially in the
intersections of philosophy and the study of literature.
Typically, the Workshop meetings have the following structure: there is a brief talk (15 to 20 minutes) by the presenter,
followed by a long discussion (about one hour). The talks must propose original
arguments on issues in Philosophy and Literature; there are no thematic
restrictions in respect to the issues discussed. Whenever possible, the article
to be discussed will be distributed to all of the participants of the Workshop
one week beforehand, in order to facilitate discussion. Aside from invited
guest speakers, the workshop will host talks proposed by faculty members,
researchers, and graduate students.
The sessions are open to the public and they will take place at the Program in Literary Theory of the University of Lisbon.
