This ball of awesome and fluff is Bartholomew. He’s a Maine Coon mix that me and Rothstar took in from the cold Wednesday night after hearing him meowing at our patio door. I talked to my apartment complex’s manager and due to his condition it’s most likely he used to belong to someone who lived in one of the apartments but they abandoned him when they moved out.  When taken to the vet we had them check for a microchip or other identification (so we could return him) but they didn’t find anything.

But what the vet did find in her examination is not only is he an intact tomcat, but he also unfortunately tested positive for feline leukemia and feline AIDs.  (As well as having earmites and roundworms, but that’s easily treatable and common in strays.)  If it were just the leukemia his lifespan would be shorter but it’s treatable with medicine, but the AIDs is contagious to other cats (and only cats - not dogs, other pets, or people) through blood and saliva. This means he would have to be an only cat until G-d decides his time is up.  

We already have three cats (who had to be taken to the vet to be tested and updated on their shots the moment we got Bart’s test results - thank the Lord they’re fine), and my parents also already have three. He’s currently being kept isolated in an upstairs bedroom at my parents’ house because they do not have the heart to put him down. (They contacted shelters and because of what he has he’s not adoptable and they’d just put him to sleep anyway.)

He’s a very, very sweet cat. Kind of keeps to himself, doesn’t bug people much, and likes to sleep in a sunbeam. But when he’s in the mood for attention boy does he return it. He’s a snuggly lapcat with a very hearty purr. You can pick him up and even pet him a little rough and he will not bite or claw. The vet’s not sure how much time he has (it’s like how AIDs was in people until medicine improved), but she does think he may have a few years left in him if properly cared for and loved.  (He’s a young cat to begin with, too, four years old at the most, so this is quite a shame. D: )

If there’s anyone in Texas or Oklahoma who would be willing to take him in please either send me, Rothstar, or Rlohengramm a message.  The Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex is preferred, but southern Oklahoma and as far down as Austin is doable for us (my mother really loves him and would do damn near anything if a family wants him).  Keep in mind he’d have to be an only cat in your household, have a regular vet, and any children are old enough to play nicely with him.

He may not have very long in this world, but that doesn’t mean he’s any less deserving of a family to love him and for him to love in return.
