Late last year I decided I wanted to buy a small record player. Didn’t have to be anything super amazing, just something that worked that had a nice little sound to it so i could sit back and enjoy a few tunes. Growing up my parents introduced me to their collection of records. I remember that Saturday as we were cleaning the house one day and my mom brought me her records into my room and sat on the floor. She asked me if i had ever listened to “The Carpenters”. I was around 13 at the time and had no idea what she was talking about! Sure i knew some old tunes from the past that my parents would make us listen to in our Oldsmobile station wagon, but i didn’t really pay much attention at the time! So she puts the record on and almost instantly i was blown away by Karen Carpenter’s voice. The old scratchy sound of the record intrigued me. I could tell by the look on her face that it brought back so many good memories for her. I remember thinking how happy i was that my mom decided to share pieces of her past with me. The rest of the afternoon she continued to show me her and dad’s little collection which included Michael Jackson, Menudo, Dean Martin, Bing Crosby,  Johnny Mathis, Motown and random music from the 50’s through the 70’s. I was having a blast! I listened to them all summer long on my 80’s turntable stereo. That pretty much started my love for 50’s-60’s vintage items/lifestyle/records..I wanted to live in that time! I wanted to experience what my parents experienced and dress how they dressed at that time! I too wanted to live in the 50’s! After summer was done i couldn’t wait to tell my friends at school what new things i discovered over the summer, but no one really seemed to care what a record player even was! I was bummed and realized that this is just something special I’m gonna have to share with my parents. I kinda liked it that way. We would dance and laugh as they would pass down stories of their past to me. Yes, those were good times!! Hopefully when I move back to Florida we can have those good times back again. In the meantime, i’ll just listen to my records on my little restored 1952 record player.

My wife talks about our record player

The TV show Friday Night Lights has come to an end after its 5th season. Earlier today I finished watching the Finale and sad to see the show end. Nothing amazing about the show and a lot of the times the acting was just bad. But their was something about it that I just enjoyed. Whats cool is the show was filmed here in Austin and i have been able to see a lot of the locations.

The show centered around a high school Football couch, his family and a handful of his players. Where a major part of the show is about football, its more about relationships and the drama that happens living in a small town where High School football rules. After the first season I was a bit worried on how they were going to keep the show going and keeping it fresh. I actually think they did a really good job as each season had a big change to the show which made it very interesting. With the biggest being at the end of the 3rd/start of the 4th.

All in all I was very happy with how they ended the show where I feel most shows struggle on how to wrap up the show.

But this is just another show to add to my list of great shows that have come to an end. Joining LOST, Arrested Development, 24, The Sopranos, Freaks & Geeks, Everybody Loves Raymond and Terminator.

Just finished Star Wars The New Jedi Order book 2 (of 19), Darktide:Onslaught.

Now moving onto Ruin.

Finally received my new pair of TOMS shoes today. It took UPS 11 days to deliver them due to the weather. What I like about TOMS is for every pair of shoes I buy they donate a pair to someone in need.
