Hey folks! I’ll be at TCAF this weekend on the second floor at table 260 with Faith Erin Hicks and Miriam Gibson! Come say hi!
Mine and Maré Odomo’s pieces for Comics vs Games, an exhibition at Magic Pony in Toronto, ON. The show is being presented by TIFF Nexus, the Hand-Eye Society, and Attract Mode.
DAMN YOU PHOTOSHOP. After resizing the image, I got caught up in tweaking a few things and lost my full hi-res version by going past the undo limit. Why can’t we have more UNDO?! ARGRRGHH.
Sigh. :( Groose would never let himself get upset over something like this.
Browing through some photos from past trips as reference in an attempt to start warming up to environment painting! This is only about an hour’s worth of messing around but thought I’d post my experiments with environments now.
This weekend is Molyjam in Toronto! Going to be at it all weekend. So hopefully after that, along with finishing unpacking, I’ll be able to get back to work! I have commissions and research to do!
Super color surprise! Everyone’s a Centaur will be color from now on! It will still be published black and white, as nature intended, in The Coast. But I just can’t resist making people’s eyeballs scream.
Strip 1 & 2 are color-fied as well!

Yo dawg. I heard you like adventure games so I put an adventure game in your adventure game so that you could adventure while you ——- yeah you get it.
Finished this a few days ago and wasn’t going to post it because I thought it was stupid. :P But I figure at least one person will get a laugh out of it.
I know people will argue that Uncharted is Action/Adventure over an Adventure. But don’t play through all three of those games and tell me that was no ADVENTURE!
I got to give Tim Schafer a copy of my poster today at GDC!

I am one happy nerd right now
In case you don’t follow my DeviantArt account, I’ve opened slots up to take a few commissions. If you’re interested, please check out the full details here!
Indifferent, I suppose. I think it’s amusing that anyone would ever get a tattoo from my art. :) And I say this because a few years ago, someone actually got a tattoo of a drawing I made of a bottle of beer hugging a pig. THAT e-mail surprised me big time. I can’t stop someone from using my work to get a tattoo and I won’t chase after them for it. I take enough amusement knowing they have a part of ‘me’ stuck on them for the rest of their life.
Mwahahahahahaha.
All I ask is that people ask me for permission first.
25 hours later, finally finished! Phew. I didn’t think I’d get this done by Sunday but I proved myself wrong. It was about time I made an homage to some of my favourite characters in one of my favourite series of games ever.
Thanks for the comment! It means a lot to me. :) My process is very … haphazard and experimental almost. I use a LOT of layers because I’m always painting over something here and rotating something there and layering effects on top of layer effects to get my colours right. My painting tends to come out very ‘grey’ without a lot of playing around with layers and such. The key thing to all my paintings though is the one photoshop brush I use. It’s actually a default one called Oil Pastel Large with dual brush and colour dynamics selected (with pen pressure). That gives me the texture you tend to see in all my paintings. If I get around to it, I can take apart that painting and post a process if you’re interested.
So I have this bad habit of not planning a background in advance of my compositions and after enjoying painting the characters so much, I attempted to throw one in without any planning ahead or structure or anything and it comes out like a pukey mess.
OH WELL. This was NEVER supposed to be a full painting. I just wanted to draw Noel and Serah. We’ll just put this one aside and never look back at it. XP
Just a WIP from today’s afternoon drawing session. We set a theme this week for ourselves and picked “Lunar” in spirit of the Chinese New Year. I painted most of this zoomed out like a thumbnail so it’s super rough still. Just have to get into the nitty gritty now. Not sure about the face in the corner yet but we’ll see how it goes!
This is the finished result of a collaboration between me and my awesome friend Miriam. She did this great drawing during one of our Saturdays and I asked if I could paint it. So voila! Miriam, this one’s for you
I haven’t posted anything since I moved three weeks ago. Being back at home kinda sucks the creative juice outta ya. Too comfortable playing video games and having food cooked for me! But I only have about a week and a half of fun left before work starts. Then hopefully I’ll get back into a drawing mood again. So here’s a little gift I made for a co-worker and his girlfriend before I left Halifax. On Halloween he dressed as Woodman and she was a Pterodactyl. :)
