Picking up my bib It is with mixed emotions I write and share my experience at the Boston Marathon on Monday. I was so happy with my result and the way that I was able to test my body through the miles. Hyperextending my knee in February was devastating to my running, my knee was unstable and I ran a 10 and 8 miler were my longest runs before Monday. Thoughts of not doing this race crossed my

The PREP It was 25 degrees as I drove my little Red Prius to Hartford this morning. I love the city -- the history, the old buildings, churches and the ground where the Capital of Connecticut stands proud. I have run the marathon once with a time of 3:40 and the half in 2009 with a time of 1:31. The foliage and the villages of the Hartford area have a wonderful New England feeling & many of my
Morning Glory Muffins - home made with King Arthur Flour, coconut, sesame seeds, walnuts, carrots, Massachusetts Macintosh apples from our own Cold Spring Orchard & raisins. Too yummy not to share. I love taking food photos and updating my favorite recipes on my blog - and this ranks up as one of my favorite muffins and I found the recipe on the King Arthur Flour website. Below is my rendition
Putting together my race recap from The San Francisco Marathon - my 30th marathon including my 4 Ironmans & 50 miler. I wanted to get creative with this recap after reading this post on the ONION . Summary -- Being a San Francisco Marathon Ambassador - getting to know all these other runners virtually, through blogposts and the SF Facebook Group - was one of the most amazing experiences as a
My number one fan -San Francisco in 2008 for Nike Woman's Marathon Running and training for a marathon can be a lonely business. The early mornings, squeezing whatever miles you can get in at lunch or happy hour run(which doesn't always include a nice cold one). Having a crazy family schedule doesn't always allow for group runs or even timing to find a running partner. So when it comes
Training for the SF marathon in Vermont My occupation is a national director, working for the American Cancer Society - an job that I have loved since the day I began in the "field" 18 years ago. I am an event planner, volunteer manager, relationship coordinator, fundraiser -- basically a party planner that celebrates & raises the much needed funds in the fight against cancer. We have
I must admit I love to eat. I love good heathy food. At our house it is always a quest to make the perfect healthy meal and make sure it is something that will fuel our bodies for the activities we endure on a daily basis. Diet & nutrition play a big part of any athlete's performance. Ability to consume and use the food you put inside your personal"vessel" really does make a difference. I am not
My favorite Boston memoribilia I don’t remember where I first heard the term, “schwag”, whether it was in the ski biz or as a runner when I would win a spot in my age group. As a running “racer”, I began to collect “schwag” or all kinds of “stuff”. I would collect fun items with the race logo & giveaways at races that I would proudly wear. Maybe I thought it would show that I am a runner -
Next time you go to a road race or triathlon look around you... and do a little "people watching". If you are a "race junkie" like me you may have noticed some similar characters there like I have at the races. It is fun to be a part of this social network -- sometimes every weekend if you race in the region, you meet and get to know many amazing people. But where ever you go you might recognize
Scavenger Hunt Sunday Skiing in Style Routine This is Max. It's all a routine for a skiing family. The benefits of your children skiing in the Development Program at Mount Snow really makes skiing fun and a routine that fits the winter life at Mount Snow. He is a freestyle skier and at 13 is comfortable skiing every where! We skied the park at Carinthia, the trees, steeps on the Northface, Yard
Crossed Berkshire East hosted the Pioneer Valley Individual Championships. I shot the boys Slalom run - this is the number 1 seeded boy John Mentor - what amazing form! In Slalom skiing when you reach across your body to hit the gate is called a "cross block" :) John Mentor, Longmeadow, Seeded #1 A Glimpse ...of a future Olympian. :) Schuyler is so jazzed now that he is skiing fast and
When I think of streakers, I think of crazy people. Remembering back when I was a ski patroller at Killington one of only 5 woman patrollers, we would get the random call of a "nudity" issue on the slopes - whether it was male, female, topless, bottomless or both! :) My friend Ned was "famous" for streaking through the Rutland mall parking lot and we continuously would laugh about those days!
Strike a Pose, My winter fun is ski racing photography. I love to catch these young athletes in action! Check out these little ones Jake & Tess striking a pose. (J6 = 7-8 year olds) Tess below won both J6 races -- and for good reason -- look at that form! Footwear Although ski boots are tight and not always fun to get on your feet. To get the right ones is a real advantage to how well
What do I love about running? The list goes on and on... but one thing that comes up on my list over and over again is the fact that it is the time that I get to spend with my canine companion! 1/2 Marathon finish relaxing with Chester in Colorado 1999 Exploring the mountains with Chester in 1999 Chester & I in Keystone, CO 1999 I remember running with my first yellow labrador, "
What to know before you go.... on a plane, train or automobile you need to be ready, packed and motivated to get all your workouts in while you are on the road. The high heels don't like to share the bag with dirty sneakers and packing can get tight if you are trying to fit it all in an overnight carry on bag so you don't have to check luggage. Ask me - I know -- I have traveled in my current
It's January. We see a lot written about goals for the New Year. People see January 1st, the start of a new year, a clean slate, time to start anew. We re-evaluate the goals we set from last year, we celebrate those goals we accomplished and see the reasons why we didn't make some of the others. After all it is the new year and it is a chance to look at new things to accomplish and realize
Reflecting on 2011 through photography.... Me! - My proudest moment was running the Vermont 50 and placing 4th woman in 8 hours and 30 min. It was less than a year after completing my last chemo treatment for lymphoma. A cancer survivor and stronger than ever! I looked back at my goals for 2011... just to see how I did & I totally rocked 2011 - even though I only accomplished 4 of the
In the hunt again this week sharing my latest photography. I hope you like my selections! Please leave a note if you stop by! :) Waiting Can I just tell you how much I love my dog "Toryfield Master Oakley"? He is so photogenic and most of the time poses really well too! :) Oakley waits as we hike up the trail Foliage I think most of our foliage has now past and when it was at its
Scavenger Hunt Sunday Mainly One Color: All the flowers are gone now because of the storm, but this lovely shot was one that I wanted to share. Just love the beauty of my Lily flowers in the garden. Around the Home: My favorite Oakley photo recently taken on the backyard rocks when we had that freak snowstorm. It was beautiful to see the foliage in the background of the snow.
Woop Woop 2010 Shiraz While staying in New York City for the marathon we were right around the corner from Nancy's Wines! AND with a name like that how could I resist! I love wine. This place was fun to browse and check the selection, none that I have seen in my area, with a lot of variety. They were very helpful in picking out wines & champagne for our celebration and have a
What is the message? How do you want to engage the audience? How can you be inspirational in your talk? Thinking about all that -- I research speaking and get up on stage as much as possible to share my story. Recently I spoke for the DetermiNation team at the pre-race Pasta Party in New York City. I really love to tell my story and am so honored when anyone asks me to speak. I love to speak
Scavenger Hunt Sunday In my scavenger hunt selections of late I had been going with a search for it approach, but this week I am straying off and picking random shots that I have wanted to share! These are from this fall and some more recent. Enjoy! Please leave a comment if you stop by -- I love photography and sharing my stuff with all of you --- Thanks for stopping by!! :)
There is so much to share about the NYCM! It was quite the adventure to say the least! Here is my "Race Report" :) Training: My focused training on speed through training working to best my speed on my various routes in the neighborhood had me feeling strong. Taper discipline was great combined with the fact that we lost power after receiving 2 feet of wet glop grounded me & messed

Here are my interpretations this week! :) Words Jared was running so fast and right AT me.... to beat the opponent to the ball that I
