Mini Paper Plates To Pizza Boxes - genius indeed: http://gizmodo.com/5885683/adding-mini-paper-plates-to-pizza-boxes-is-unadulterated-genius

life:

When John, Paul, George and Ringo first made it across the pond in 1964 to play before their adoring, screaming fans in the States — including, famously, performances on The Ed Sullivan Show that mark, for many people, the true beginning of rock and roll’s British Invasion — LIFE photographers were able to get some shots of the lads from Liverpool that capture their wry spirit, their charm, and their youth. (Were they really ever that young?)

Here, then, a short, fond selection of pictures from 1964, when a quartet of mop-topped Brits landed on America’s shores, plugged in their amps, and changed the world forever.

Back in 1964 no one would be saying “Who is Paul McCartney?” Psh…

How do you know she is a witch?

there’s just so much here. pixels, tetris, scrabble, boggle. bit by bit…

I love gabions. Now I love gabion gardens.

This is the garden “Cubed” (called Cubed3 elsewhere on the web) at RHS Tatton in 2009.

3 Stories & 1 Thought.

I was ten years old when the Macintosh was introduced. I remember watching the SuperBowl and being jarred by the 1984 ad. I didn’t know what it meant, but I knew it was Afterwards I turned to my parents and asked if we could get a Macintosh. I am fortunate enough to have amazing set of parents and several months later, my dad got us a Macintosh 512k. Fast forward to 2011 and many many Apple products later, I found myself at the SXSW festival waiting in line to purchase an iPad2. I wanted to thank my dad for all the years of support, tech and opportunities he provided me. For all the amazing things he gave me, I wanted to say thank you for giving me my first Macintosh and starting me down this amazing journey.

In 2006, I graduated from ITP at NYU and was fortunate to land a job working at Frog Design. Next to the dream of someday working for Apple, working at Frog had been  a professional goal of mine. Frog designed the early Macintoshes and did amazing work. It was there walking past the pictures of the early Apple products and the NeXTstation that I had an idea for an installation. My favorite Mac was the SE/30 and thanks to eBay, I quickly bought 16 or for about $50 each. Each week, one or two would show up at the office and some of my co-workers would smile and laugh when I showed them my designs for a 4x4 wall of networked SE/30s. After a few weeks, I had done my research and made my plans. Almost all of the SE/30s worked, but when I started to disassemble the first Mac, I was struck by the thought that I was killing a work of art. I had a few old typewriters and Polaroid cameras and I suddenly saw them in a new light. I couldn’t take them apart for just how much they meant to me.

In 2008, I was looking on Craigslist for a couple of used hard drives so I could back up my Mac. I found a few promising ads and started emailing a girl a about a couple of drives. We agreed on the price, and set a time to meet up at her place. When I went to her apt, she was kind and we chatted about tech for a bit. She admitted that she wasn’t sure how to wipe her hard drives, and was concerned with wiping the data on the drives. I was more than happy to teach her how to do it. We sat in front of her Mac, and I opened up Disk Utility to wipe the drives. When it came time to authenticate her identity, the dialogue box appeared and I froze. I looked at the screen for a few awkward seconds and slowly turned to her and asked if this was truly her.  She said yes. A few seconds later, I shrugged and said “Cool”.

As I turned back to her monitor, a thousand questions raced through my brain, but I didn’t dare ask her. After a few seconds of silence, she asked if I was cool with it and I laughed and said that I probably knew more about her  and her family than most strangers would. We laughed and made a joke and then she remarked that she was glad to have met me and not a strange Apple fanboy. Since I knew she went to high school with some friends of mine from Palo Alto, I knew that I could ask her a few questions about them. That opened the door to talk about Apple, why she was selling the hard drives and a few stories. She was very gracious and kind with her stories. After I finished the hard drive wipe and showed her that nothing remained on the hard drives, I paid her and gave her a hug.  I thanked Lisa for the hard drives and walked out her door.

As I walked down the stairs, I said quietly to myself, I just met Lisa Brennan Jobs.

Like millions out there, I was pretty shocked last night hearing the sad, sad news. I feel most awful for his family because he was just 56 years young. Thousands people die each day, but the impact that Steve Jobs had and the choices he made were really amazing and inspiring. Next to my dad, I can’t think of any other man whom has affected me as much as Steven P. Jobs. Teach your kids the value of imagination and the quest to never settle. Hopefully when people use Apple’s products, or chat with iChat/FaceTime, or build something on a Macintosh, they will remember the effect that he had to inspire the ones all around him to be better.

Thank you Steve.

Thanks, Steve.

Posting designs like this one makes me paranoid, because I can’t shake the feeling that it’s not original. I enjoyed the process regardless, but please let me know if somebody else beat me to the idea!

Thoughts?

Well it’s now about three weeks past Demo Day and I can’t believe that the summer building a business at TechStars has already passed. It was definitely the fastest summer of my life (went by about 1000x quicker than the summer I spent working at Arby’s as a teenager…don’t remind me, I can…
