icepo:

“Icepo 3” was placed in Dreaming of Iceland:  The Lure of a Family Legend by Sally Magnusson, pgs 30-31. Chiswick Library, London, England.

I am getting my very own Icepo drawing to hide in a book in the Nashville library. The internet is so full of magic.

Music Diary 2012 - Day 7

Music Diary 2012 Project, Day 7.

Yesterday, May 13 I listened to:

  • No music that I can recall. Boring.

The end.

Music Diary 2012 - Days 5 & 6

Music Diary 2012 Project, Days 5 & 6.

Friday, May 11 I listened to:

  • The new Rufus Wainwright, “Out of the Game”
  • Tried to listen to the new Rebecca Black song, but it had been scrubbed from YouTube at the time. What a shame.
  • Meetings, meetings, meetings. No music.
  • Johnny Cash on the jukebox at dinner.
  • One Direction on the radio on the way home from the bar.
Yesterday, May 12 I listened to:
  • Girl Talk’s “Night Ripper” and “All Day” on repeat while skating way too early in the morning.
  • Of Monsters & Men “My Head Is An Animal,” then a playlist of The Avett Brothers (“Emotionalism,” “I And Love And You” and “The Second Gleam” mostly) while driving to Chattanooga.
  • More Avett Brothers while driving home from Chattanooga, but they were mostly drowned out by the monsoon.
Music Diary 2012 - Day 4

Music Diary 2012 Project, Day 4.

Yesterday, May 10 I listened to:

  • Nothing until 12:52pm.
  • 1x: iTunes DJ queue of The Black Keys “El Camino,” Of Monsters & Men “My Head Is An Animal,” s / s / s “Beak & Claw,” Kathleen Edwards “Voyageur,” Tanlines “Mixed Emotions,” fun. “Some Nights” and The Lumineers self titled.
  • Flitted from here to there while doing some major iTunes cleanout/backup/organization. Half of Active Child’s “You Are All I See,” the first three and a half songs from The Hunger Games soundtrack, obligatory random “Gold Digger” run through and then started flipping through mixtapes and mashups. Listened to The Hood Internet Mixtape vol. 6 again, stopped 7 minutes and 34 seconds short of the end to drive my friend home. But not before making her listen to “Call Me Maybe.”
  • Top 40 on the radio driving home from my friend’s house, I recall some One Direction, B.o.B and Kelly Clarkson.
  • Ryan Adams “Gold” to drown out the sound of my computer securely erasing 13,000 mp3s.
Music Diary 2012 - Day 3

Music Diary 2012 Project, Day 3

Yesterday, May 9, I listened to:

  • This mixtape while getting ready for work, because I saw both Katie and The Hairpin link to it in my pre-work interneting.
  • Tanlines “Mixed Emotions” on repeat all day at work, 5 or 6 times through.
  • “All The Things She Said” by t.A.T.u. because uh, I saw something on Instagram that made me think of the song and it was just an itch that I needed to scratch.
Music Diary 2012 - Day 2

Music Diary 2012 Project, Day 2

Yesterday, May 8, I listened to:

  • The new Passion Pit single “Take A Walk” another dozen times. When the clock hit noon, I bought presale tickets to see them in July. Then I stopped, I promise.
  • Childish Gambino’s “Camp,” one and a half times through while getting ready for work and making calls to the Honda dealership. I saw him last weekend in Memphis and he was great.
  • Sort of not music, but Maurice Sendak died, so then I found myself digging up crappy youtube versions of In The Night Kitchen and Pierre (with Carole King!).
  • s / s / s - “Beak & Claw” (1x)
  • The 30 second clips on Amazon for the following albums: The Lumineers self titled, Jack White “Blunderbuss,” Trampled by Turtles “Stars & Satellites,” Ingrid Michaelson “Human Again,” Silversun Pickups “Neck of the Woods” and Keane’s “Strangeland”. I didn’t purchase any of them but I think I will buy one or two of them eventually.
  • Some random mixtapes at practice. I didn’t choose them and I wasn’t really paying attention to them.
  • Not music: a meditation podcast to put me to sleep.
Music Diary 2012 - Day 1

Participating in the Music Diary 2012 project because why not.

Yesterday, May 7, I listened to:

  • The new Beach House album “Bloom” streaming in advance on NPR. I listened at least five times through while getting ready for work & at work.
  • “Sugar We’re Going Down” by Fall Out Boy. It was on the radio as I was driving the three miles I commute to work. I sang along at the parts about the luleelurah
  • The new Passion Pit song “Take A Walk” streaming on Pitchfork. I listened about 30 times trying to decide if I like it. I think I do.
  • An Ingrid Michaelson song that was on the radio to promote her show in Nashville last night. I don’t know what song but I thought it was pretty good.
  • “Some Nights” (the song, not the album) by fun. I only listened to half before I got to my destination, because everything in Nashville is so close to everything else.
  • More radio. I don’t remember what was on the radio or even what station I was listening to because my car window randomly exploded while I was sitting at a train crossing, and I was stressed out for the rest of the night.

RIP, Maurice Sendak. Thanks for the years of childhood trauma. (Also relevant, this.)

I’m not the milk and the milk’s not me! I’m Mickey!

nprmusic:

Beach House’s fourth album, Bloom, is unquestionably a Beach House record, and one that on the surface feels more like a continuation than the product of evolution. That is, until you go back and hear how far this band has truly come.

Stream Bloom now.

NPR makes the Mondays okay.

Today I am working with my bff who is visiting from LA. We met on Livejournal when we were 14 year old kids living in Virginia and Texas, ended up going to the same college in Nashville and now we work for the same company on opposite coasts, 11 years later. Life is weird and awesome sometimes.

Things that I am going to do and places that I am going to go in the next 12 months

In no specific order:
  • White water rafting
  • Finish the bourbon trail
  • Climb some mountains and visit some breweries in Colorado
  • Booze Day cruise!
  • Vegas and maybe the Grand Canyon?
  • The Color Run
  • Warrior Dash
  • Memphis in May
  • Six new states: Nevada, Arizona, Colorado, Nebraska, Utah, Wyoming
  • Festival of Colors in Spanish Fork, Utah
  • Summer Rock Island and lake weekends

On making beds.

I have made my bed every single day since February 27. I’ve never been a bed-maker (which didn’t - and still doesn’t - really bother me at all), but I don’t think I’ve ever done anything every single day for an entire month. So, here’s to actually doing the things that we say we’re going to do.

I have spent most of my life with the distinct sense that our minds and experiences are mysterious, ridiculously complex, and vastly different from one another’s, to a degree that makes everyday communication almost miraculous. There are times when this feeling is terrifying, and times when it’s reassuring, magical, or inspiring. I suppose I’ll have to take it up with a therapist someday. But I’m a believer in a world where you can spend 60 years married to someone and die in bed beside them without ever having gleaned more than a partial, sidelong understanding of what it’s like inside their head— leave alone just checking out their shoes, iPod, or Twitter feed and figuring you know something about them.

amazonmusic:

This video for “Little Talks” by Of Monsters and Men has us intrigued. Full-length album out on 4/3.

1: This video is the best video, I know I say that a lot but I REALLY MEAN IT THIS TIME GUYS

2: Doubly relevant because I have listened to nothing else all week.

[Flash 10 is required to watch video.]

afancyprostitute:

That’s right
the program is over
so now you can talk
-trash about it and vent your rage! on your twitter and facebook page!

Won’t you
join us again next week
at 30 Rock! - afeller plaza NYC

Where the
ratings are (awesome)
remarkably somehow, we’re still on the aaaaair!

We’ll just
keep doing this whether
you like it or not!
- we really do love our fans, yes both of you!

This was one of the most bizarre and amazing episodes of 30 Rock ever.

One of my new favorites, this video is weird and awesome and directed by Julian Barratt of The Mighty Boosh.

Enjoying this today. Mumford & Sons “Where Are You Now” live at SXSW 2012.

Shelve your bagged lunch leftovers – Today is Dining Out For Life, the annual event where local restaurants donate a percentage of their profits to fight AIDS with Nashville CARES. Topping our list: Arnold Myint’s restaurants ChaChah and Suzy Wong’s House of Yum are donating 100% of tonight’s dinner proceeds to the cause – Suzy Wong’s even has a special dinner buffet for the occasion. Other notable high percentage participants are all three Kalamatas locations at 75% of lunch and dinner and Jackson’s, Mambu and Rumba at 60% of dinner.

Peruse the lengthy list of participating restaurants and their donation percentages HERE.

Hello Nashville, and welcome to your new and improved Bright & Early! You may have noticed that we occasionally (read: every day) have issues getting Bright & Early posted, well, bright & early. As much as we adore our readers repeatedly pointing out that 11am is not bright & early, it’s time to make a few format changes to the daily news roundups. Bright & Early is going away to give us more flexibility on the time of day we bring you the news, and we’re going to experiment with a more link-based format for the daily news.

Give us a few days, then let us know what you think via comment or email! We want to hear from you if you hate the changes we’re making (as we all know, the Internets hate change), but we’d appreciate civil, constructive feedback. We’re real, live people over here (more on that later). But enough with that. On to the news!

March 05, 12:45 PM

Good morning, Nashville. We’re happy to be alive and well after Friday’s severe weather across the southeast. Two Middle Tennessee tornado touchdowns were confirmed in Jackson and Cheatham counties, but Nashville escaped relatively unscathed with just some early school dismissals, power outages and hail damage.

February 27, 12:45 PM

Good morning, Nashville. Tennessee’s SuperTuesday Republican primary is shaping up to be quite the event after a Vanderbilt University poll released over the weekend showed Rick Santorum with a significant lead. Santorum made several campaign appearances in east Tennessee over the weekend, and Newt Gingrich is campaigning in Nashville today. Speaking of voting: Tomorrow is your last day to early vote if you want to avoid the crowds next Tuesday, so get thee to a pollery ASAP (if that’s your thing, of course).

February 24, 12:45 PM

Good morning, Nashville. Seems like all we do lately is talk about the weather, but that 75-degree February afternoon yesterday was really one for the books! Looks like that chance of snow for today has disappeared, and we have a dry weekend in the 40′s and 50′s to look forward to. In more important news:

Good morning, Nashville. How about all that snow this weekend? Nashville was a beautiful winter wonderland for about an hour on Sunday, but rising afternoon temperatures erased all traces of our short-lived snowpocalypse. We’ll see spring-like temperatures in the 50′s and 60′s this week, but hey, what do you know? There’s a small chance of snow again on Friday. Weather bonus this week (and next): Step outside on a clear night and you may be able to spot the planet Mercury.

Good morning, Nashville. Here’s your roundup of today’s headlines:

February 16, 12:30 PM

Good morning, Nashville. Yesterday, a woman from California made her way to Nashville via Greyhound bus from Knoxville, hopped in a limo and made a beeline for Kenny Chesney’s house in Williamson County, where she was arrested in a bathroom near the pool. The woman had been drinking wine at the pool, and claimed to be dating the singer. We have many concerns about this news story, not the least of which is that creepy screen capture on the newscast video.
