As I am a guest columnist for this blog, I find it important that I act as a voice of reason to counter all of the tech-talk.

All of us know that technology is an integral part of our lives and of modern society, but it can also act as a barrier and create issues that we didn't have before.

Some of these issues help us learn and some of them just infuriate us. The laptop that I am currently working on, a MacBook Pro, has more computing power than the Apollo space shuttle from the sixties and could crack the German Enigma code in a matter of a few minutes! Its incredible what can be done through the help of technology nowadays. But something that really annoys me everyday is the constant bombardment of information.

There is a man somewhere in cyberspace who thinks that I need a larger penis, even though I'm quite happy with the one I have. Newsletters from companies I have never heard of clog my inbox. Product advertising from Asia, that has nothing to do we anything that find interesting, spams my other inbox all the time. And finally, airlines with "fantastic deals" or "opportunities" think that I have the time to get on a last minute flight to Astana for €60. Why!!? Why do I get this crap every day of the week. Even on Sundays!

Every time I turn on my computer, I feel like I open the floodgates to all possible kinds of information that I have no desire to read, or know about!I know what you're thinking. I probably clicked on something, somewhere, sometime, which has led to me getting all of these e-mails. I have done everything in my power to unsubscribe to newsletters and promotional campaigns, but to no avail.

Don't get me wrong though. I love technology for all it is and it isn't, but why do we have the need to be connected all of the time?

Twenty years ago, if you went on holiday you'd usually either turn your phone off or you were one of those who didn't have a mobile phone yet. I was one of them. Nowadays, the only solitude you get is when you turn your phone off on an airplane, and even then you don't technically turn it off, you put in "flight mode". After departing, you turn your phone on and you have ten voice messages from people who are really angry because you didn't or couldn't answer. On inter-continental flights with Lufthansa, you can buy an option to be able to use their broadband internet and use your mobile phone on board. When are we going to get that much needed down-time!?

This need to be connected has become something that we take for granted in the Western world. People expect you to be reachable 'round the clock. Even children are connected!
I remember when I was a kid. The only information that I got about the world was through BBC News or my father. Today, children know more about what is going on on the NASDAQ than most traders at Goldman Sachs. They even know more about the looming North/South Korea nuclear crisis than most adults do. This is one of many aspects of constant connectivity that I find is somewhat disturbing. Kids can no longer be kids in the same way as you and I could.
They must be really scared of everything that is going on around the world. Financial meltdowns, terrorist attacks, leaking oil platforms and internet perverts. These things can be very overwhelming even for us. Imagine how the children feel!

I know that they are better at tech than our generation is and they will most likely be able to adapt to it in a better way.
My only concern is that, if I feel swamped by everything that is going on, then I wonder how they feel.
Hopefully we will al learn to live in a world that is connected all of the time.
I recently learnt how to download stuff and InDesign, but apparently downloading is soooo nineties and InDesign is crap.
Now its all about "the cloud". Whatever that is, I'm sure it'll take me a while to figure out how to use it.

I look forward to de-constructing and analysing society and its obsession with technology. Until the next time, make sure to keep a look out for "the cloud", and let me know if you find it.

You will probably be seing this on your internet portal during this week.

....

earth.350.org/

This November 20-28, 350 EARTH will launch the world’s first ever global climate art project. In over a dozen places across the globe, citizens and artists will create massive public art installations to show how climate change is already impacting our world as well as offer visions of how we can solve the crisis. Each art installation will be large enough to be seen from space and documented by satellites generously provided by DigitalGlobe.

350 EARTH will be the first-ever global scale group show on the front line of climate change—our polluted cities, endangered forests, melting glaciers, and sinking coastlines. People around the world are invited to take part by attending signature events, submitting their own art, and spreading the word about the project.

350 EARTH will take place on the eve of the next United Nations climate meetings in Cancun, Mexico where delegates will work to create an international climate treaty. Our politicians have all the facts, figures, and graphs they need to solve the climate crisis. What they lack is the will. 350 EARTH will demonstrate the massive public support for bold climate action and the role that art can play in inspiring humanity to take on our greatest challenge: protecting the planet on which we live.

Following my earlier post Fan's Trailers (Do it yourself), another approach from fans to their favorites idols is related to music.

Today I watched two nice videos about people playing what they like and somehow making fun of it.

It's incredible what fans can do nowadays. A couple of years ago if you were a fan of something, you would maybe join a Fan club or create one with a couple of friends. This was very common in 90's. During the beginning of the new century this fan clubs migrate to the web and the proliferation of fan clubs reached a global level.

Now, high technology is getting cheaper and many fans are engaging and creating trailers for their favorites groups, cartoons and movies.

I considere it the ultimate level (so far) in brand experiencing. Although not directly offer by companies the engagement between fan and products or/and emotion and fantasy is priceless and the rewards are atemporal

I presume that this kind of marketing should be offered to costumers more often.

Here are three videos that shows the passion of fans to created something for what they love.

We all want to be "superheros, spy's, etc".

Here is a new 3d Mobile phone that is going to be released soon.

Press realize from DigInfo:

This model has a 3.8-inch 3D LCD with a vertically zoned parallax barrier, enabling naked-eye 3D viewing.

"The LYNX 3D comes with photo, video, and game applications, including a Hatsune Miku promotional video. So you can enjoy a variety of apps and content as soon as you purchase the LYNX 3D. In addition, you can convert your own photos to 3D, and watch mobile TV in 3D as well."

The LYNX 3D converts 2D pictures to 3D by software processing. It can switch between 2D and 3D display with one touch. From now on, 3D content for the LYNX 3D will also be available from DOCOMO Market, which provides application downloads for smartphones.

"The LYNX 3D also supports mobile wallet and TV services. In other words, this model offers capabilities that weren't available in previous smartphones. So we hope that even people who were hesitating to move up from a regular i-mode phone to a smartphone will find this model easy and convenient to use."

The LYNX 3D will be released in December in three colors: Blue, White and Black, with an upgrade to Android 2.2 planned for Spring 2011

The release of the song was done at the official YouTube channel of MJ. It will be only a matter of time until this song get on your radio. I imagine that Michael Jackson will be once more on the top 100 of the Bilbord List.

Following my post from last thursday (Where are we going to?) when I wrote about the Facebook and Google public discussion about social media browsing, a lot has changed.

The fight between Facebook and Google is taking a larger proportion that many people have thought. Since last friday we are seeing a lot of bloggers taking sides on this discussions, mostly are choosing Google as their option.

No matter what tomorrow's announcement is going to be, the outcome is clear. The internet is divided.

I don't work for Google or Facebook but In my opinion, the critics about Facebook's attitudes are rather harsh. It seems that mostly of the people forgot where Microsoft took us during the years of monopoly. Google came along breaking this monopoly creating a new level for the Web. Now Google is at the same spot where Microsoft was. So why not accepting a new change?

Whether you agree or not, Google has left users stuck on the same level during the last years and I believe that a bit of competition will bring benefits to all users. You might say that Facebook is creating a Internet inside the Internet but If you are clever enough to observe this, you should also notice that Social Network (Facebook) will soon be a operational system, starting with your mobile/tablet and moving afterwards to your Laptop.

Besides, Google would have done the same if Orkut had more than 500 millions users.

We can't be cynics. Social Networks exists to help us. They are easy to interact, communicate and participate.

You should be more positive about it.

Google should take the challenge in a different way, creating more perspective to users by developing new tools. We all love Google Maps and Google Street View, right?

Just to change the rhythm of today's conversation. Here a new a concept based on the use of lights and shadows. I imagine how complicated should it be to design such a thing.

Imagine to have a projection inside your badroom before you go to bed. I would surely buy one.

(It's a quite long video)

With all this chatting going around between Google and Facebook seems that things are going rather in the wrong direction. Google should stop fighting in this pointless conversation and start improving their products. Google has been sadly lazy trying to perpetuate and maximize profits in the actual platform. They are just tracing the same path that Microsoft did.

Facebook's CEO Mark Zuckerberg is right to defend a pure social media platform for browsing. However, he's the one who will profit with this situation.

I believe that Google should explore new markets and create new platforms that support a wider world inside social media.

The "social media world" won't be much longer just Facebook and Twitter.

When a small company became a huge corporation seems that it forgets the soul of this business. The users.

We want to be fascinated by these brands because they fight between each other developing new technologies and improving our life style and not to get to know who is doing the right thing.

It's time to act and not to talk.

This is my first self-made post. Thank you for reading it.

Lately I've been thinking a lot about Viral Videos and as soon as I started to engage and repost some of these videos I also started to realise that there are different kinds of "products inside this "market"". In this post I'm not going to write about "amateur" videos.

I call some "amateur" because some of them are better than many professional ones. I'm going to write about commercial Viral videos.

Most of the good agencies around the world are working hard to delivery quality Viral videos. Although there is no perfect formula on how to create potential Viral videos, some have reached their goals and spread their campaigns around the web.

The question is, What memories do you carry on? The amount of videos that we watch per week is increasing as the time passes and the efforts that were invested in these productions might go away as soon as you close your tab.

How to avoid this risk?

Creating Visceral Videos and not only Viral Videos.

Visceral Videos are the videos in which the feeling of the human are inserted into the context. I believe that these videos are the ones that remain in our memories and we have the pleasure to keep as ours.

There is nothing more important to me in a brand than to feel connected to their ideals. We want to live the brand and we demand certain attributes from it, changes in order to follow the trends, respect to customers, and most importantly we expect brands to show them their best side.

These feelings aligned with creativity are powerful tools for any marketing campaign and it wouldn't be wrong to say that is also what we expect from other individuals.

I will write about it again.

I think this was pretty good idea. Although I don't believe that facebook will exist or looks like that in the next 75 years(Please notice that my goal is to reach 100 years).

311 views so far. Let see how far it goes.
