There’s a refreshing energy about 27 year old Dave Smith aka Monopunk
Where others may shy away from losing it on the dancefloor in an
attempt to maintain their cool, Dave is at the centre of it all,
orchestrating a full-scale shake down to the sound of crashing bass and
devastating breakdowns. Given his passion for ‘causing it’ it’s no
wonder that his preferred style these days is the face-melting sound of
‘tear-out’ Electro.
Originally starting out under the name
Dajosm, Dave was initially more interested in the emotionally-charged
thrills of Progressive House, but after discovering the instant
gratification of a sound which has the power to make people quite
literally come alive on the dancefloor, he quickly settled on the
bruising basslines and slamming drops of no-nonsense Electro. Having
only been producing for little over a year, Dave has already notched up
some high-profile releases. This summer alone he unleashed two EP’s to
devastating effect, enlisting none other than Hostage
to remix the skull-denting ‘Expo Warning’ – a slamming, peak-time
weapon which inflicts a bleeping tirade of abuse on the ears (a
compliment by the way incase you were wondering).
Sure, this
harder edge is not for everyone, but much like Dirty Dutch there is a
passionate, hardcore following who are hungry for that little bit
extra. They’re not interested in standing at the side, they want to be
right in the middle, rinsing every last ounce of sweat from their
bodies, giving every second spent on the dancefloor 100%. Take that
energy to the studio and the result is Monopunk.
