I was feeling in a "hardware mood", so for this beat I fired up my Akai MPC 1000 and my Korg Electribe MX1 and got busy. I've always had a love/hate relationship with my Electribe. I love how it is capable of generating so many sounds. At the same time I hate that it is so difficult for me to get the sounds that I want out of it. I guess I still have a lot to learn about synthesis.
I've also been getting into music making apps for iOS (iPhone 4S) and recently discovered Camel Audio's Alchemy mobile app. It's easy to get sounds out of this and on top of that they sound awesome. I threw it into the mix as well.
Regardless of the challenges, I'm happy with the way this beat turned out. Enjoy and if you're digging the sounds please subscribe to my youtube channel.
Peace and dope beats!
This was a beat that I had made about a year ago and just left alone. I rediscovered it a few months back while I was organizing/cleaning up the files on my hard drive.
For whatever reason it sounded better to me the second time around so I decided to use it for the first installment of the AIFL Beat Blog.
It consists of a few different samples from vinyl. Those samples were chopped, rearranged processed then placed into drum racks using Ableton Live 8.
The controller I'm using is an Akai MPD32 with modified pads (thick fat pads) from mpcstuff.com.
Some music from Bangers and Mash by some of your friends at MonoMachina.

A short video of Industry Night that took place at the College Street Bar on December 16, 2010. There were awesome performances by Triston Maurice (www.strictlystreetmusic.com), LOC.NES (www.locnesbeats.com) and Spankbox (www.monomachina.com).
This is my first attempt at compressing HD video for the web. It was shot on an iPhone 4 because the batteries on my Canon T2i ran out. Thanks to Reazhun for coming through with the iPhone.
Once again thanks to everyone who came out to the first Industry Night. It was an amazing vibe, with sexy people and AWESOME music! I've put together a small slideshow of photos. Unfortunately my camera was running low on battery power so we weren't able to get many. (NOTE: If anyone else was there taking pics please send them to me).
If you don't have flash I've posted the jpgs below. Enjoy!

Artists
Chris Lee
Founder / Live PA Artist / Producer
Chris Lee is a Producer, Live PA artist and founder of the Toronto based Electronic Music movement MonoMachina. He performs under two alias': Fiction, and his current Live PA project titled Spankbox.
Fiction (www.myspace.com/fiction1), is an electronica-breakbeat hybrid project, originally started in 2004 while Chris was studying at The Harris Institue for the Arts. He has released two albums: Come back down (2005) and the sophomore effort SexDrumsAndBrokenSouls (2009), along with a series of series of singles and remixes.
Spankbox attacks performances with hard-hitting, 4-on-the-floor, minimal-electro beats, Spankbox's pure Live PA sound is shaped and improvised on the fly using a hardware-only approach without the aid of computers or software. Tracks are born and arranged on the fly. The premiere single “Spare Parts” will be released this month from Spankbox’s debut album “The Boy With the Drum Machine Heart ”.
Rooted in electronic music creation for nearly 14 years, Chris began creating electronic music in the mid 90’s while influenced by the emergence of industrial music. His first synthesizer, a Roland MC-303, was a birthday present he received in 1998, which is still part of his live rig to this day. Chris currently uses his organization MonoMachina to promote and showcase Toronto's underground electronic music talent at clubs and venues throughout the city and provides artists with an opportunity to network and make music with like-minded individuals.
Fiction - B Sides Collection by monomachinaKelvin Gumbs (LOC.NES)
Co-Founder / DJ / Producer / LivePA
Mysterious, elusive, yet always profound when sighted, LOC.NES is the alter ego of beat-maker and LivePA artist Kelvin Gumbs. Hailing from Toronto, Canada LOC.NES deconstructs and transforms yesterday's dusty grooves into dance floor bangers for the new millennium. He carefully combines elements from old vinyl records, House, Hip Hop and Electro into his own brand of body-moving future-beats.
LOC.NES has been producing music under a myriad of aliases since 1996. He began with Hip Hop but gradually expanded his sound to include more elements of electronic music. Not bound by the conventions of any one genre, LOC.NES continually pushes the boundaries of electronic music production and performance by utilizing a combination of old-school hardware and cutting-edge software.
A visionary member of the MonoMachina collective of LivePA artists, LOC.NES will debut a solo project, his album entitled "Adventures In Fantastic Land" in January 2012.
LOC.NES by locnesbeatsCole Docherty (DJ cDoc)
DJ / Live Visuals
DJ cDoc and videothesis. These are the alter egos of DJ, VJ and artist Cole Docherty. His work in live visuals began in 2007, drawing from influences such as Pixel Addicts and Daft Punk. In 2009, he began DJing, dropping mixes rife with pounding beats, melodic synths and grimey bass in an effort to give a fresh spin on old tracks and above all, to make people dance.
His current influences include Swedish and Dutch house, citing artists such as Avicii, Afrojack, Steve Angello, Swedish House Mafia, and Laidback Luke.
His current work includes several live shows as well as a future collaborative project called Thrones. His debut mixtape is title Cole’s Notes and will be released on MonoMachina in September 2011.
DJ cDoc Live Sets by cDocJustin Jackson - Media Director
Justin S. Jackson is a writer and video director from Toronto, Canada and works as the Film & Media director of the MonoMachina Artist Collective.
Originally studying film and screenwriting, his interests and influences are broad and sweeping and draw from almost every genre of film and music. Teasing inspiration from various aesthetic approaches ranging anywhere from Truffaut to Spike Jonze, Linklater to Banksy or The Smiths to A Trak.
Constructive collaboration and an honest approach to tasteful aesthetics are what define the feel and tone of his work in both film and music.
