Summary

I have been a freelance illustrator for over ten years, published in the Toronto Star, Buddhadharma Quarterly, Halifax's The Coast and various websites. I've created award-winning and nominated album art, show posters and music videos. In 2007 my first graphic novel, "Shenanigans", was published by Portland, Oregon-based Oni Press, contributed the title story to Image Comic's "This is a Souvenir" anthology (May 2009), and in October 2009 Invisible Publishing released my first book as full creator, "This American Drive". In April 2011, my new book, "True Story", will be published and available across North America. I have several projects on the go, and continue to establish myself as a reliable, consistent illustrator who produces eye-catching, imaginative work.

Mikenesses #97.

I Bill Watterson’d myself.

I’m actually impressed by how he hadn’t Bill Watterson’d himself already.

This is the one I was most hesitant about doing, so I avoided it for a long time. That guy is THE HERO.

“Nonstop Disco Powerpack” - Hot Sauce Committee, Pt. 2

“Triple Trouble” - To The 5 Boroughs

“Alive” - Sounds of Science, 1999

“Body Movin (Fatboy Slim Remix)” - Hello Nasty, 1998

God, I was obsessed with this video.

“Alright Hear This” - Ill Communication, 1994

“So Whatcha Want feat/B-Real (Soul Assassins remix)” - single, 1992

“Shadrach” - Paul’s Boutique, 1989

“Rhymin’ and Stealin’” - Licensed to Ill, 1987

I was in Toronto for a week and didn’t have the opportunity to post these, but I’m still sad and it always a good time for the Beasties.

You've been talking about this new tablet - I've been drawing seriously on paper for about 3/4 of a year now. Is it a good idea to start learning how to use a computer with my art or should I focus more on physical mediums first? Also, I'm really impressed by the Mikenesses - you should McBess yourself!

I’ve never done any serious drawing with a tablet. I doodled with my old Wacom but produced nothing I’d be proud to post. It’s going to be a while before I feel comfortable enough to create finished pieces with this tablet, but so far it’s been pretty great and I’m getting the hang of it. I’ll never stop drawing on paper, of course - it’s where I’m most at home.

I would say that for this price it is definitely worth a shot to start drawing digitally, because you never know when that skill might come in handy. I’ve had jobs come up where it would be a major asset to use a tablet.

The Monoprice tablet just arrived. I’ve been playing with it for the last hour. I think I love this thing. Digital drawing will be happening.

Remember - this cost me $65 with shipping.
