“If you’re not big enough to lose, you’re not big enough to win.”
- Walter Reuther, UAW & CIO President
I chose to mark my 5,000th tweet today by recognizing the powerful medium that twitter has become to communicate directly, freely, and creatively. Yet in the world in which I work, twitter remains a great unknown. Labor Union activism could benefit greatly from taking the time to understand how twitter could be harnessed to share quality information, timely information, and share it directly with a targeted community. Kudus to AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka @RichardTrumka and Secretary-Treasurer Liz Shuler @Lizshuler for boldly going where no AFL-CIO labor leader has gone before: the twitterverse. I appreciate that their twitter accounts are managed (wholly or in part) by them personally, providing windows into their minds and souls, and opportunities to communicate with them directly. My work to encourage Labor leaders, activists, unions, thought leaders, and others to join the twitterverse and share in the 140 characters of democracy one finds there continues with tweet #5,001.
