The Dubliners - Seven Drunken Nights
As I went home on Sunday night as drunk as drunk could be
I saw a thing in her thing where my old thing should be
Well, I called me wife and I said to her: Will you kindly tell to me
Who owns that thing in your thing where my old thing should be
Ah, you’re drunk,
you’re drunk you silly old fool,
still you can not see
That’s a lovely tin whistle that me mother sent to me
Well, it’s many a day I’ve travelled a hundred miles or more
But hair on a tin whistle sure I never saw before -

“I’m a heck of a catch, ‘cause, well, look at it. I live in Slough, in a lovely house … with my parents. I have my own room, which I’ve had since, yep, since I was born. That’s seen a lot of action, I tell you. Mainly dusting. I went to University for a year … before I dropped out, so I’m a quitter. So, yeah, form an orderly queue, ladies.”

is it weird that my sermon/message i am giving to my church in a couple of weeks references this movie?
the sermon is about community… so it fits…
i guess that’s very emergent of me… hahahah.
That’s really interesting! It’s a great movie, I can definitely see that it would fit into that topic.

Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros - Home (RAC Mix)
I’m dangerously close to playing this song to death, but nothing revitalizes a track like a good remix. Especially a remix that adds handclaps and dreaminess.
(via: The Music Ninja)
Ok, so this is awesome. They took a song that I already adore, and add in some clapping effects, which I also love. And, who doesn’t love dreaminess?

#132 Picking their own Fruit « Stuff White People Like
When white people harvests a crop it’s known as “berry picking” or “pick your own fruit.” Under these conditions, white people are expected to work leisurely with no real expectations and then they pay for the privilege to do so. In other words, berry picking is the agricultural equivalent to a private liberal arts college. It’s no surprise white people like it, because much like a liberal arts degree it feels like you’ve done real work when you really haven’t.

World Surname Profiler
This is really fascinating. Growing up, I was told that my surname was probably Dutch, and that the spelling had been changed at Ellis Island. Later, my grandfather told me that it was Irish.
When I put my surname into this profiler, I think I can safely say that it is almost certainly British.
The only two countries that list my surname are the United Kingdom, and the United States, being much more common in the UK.
In the US, my last name is found in about 10 states, with over 46% residing in Bar Harbor, Maine. I’d like to go there and find out how they pronounce it!
Pretty cool!

“A little bit louder now!” (via Talez)
I’m seriously obsessed with “Modern Family.” It’s the funniest and sweetest show I’ve ever seen. I’m in love with every single character. Some shows make you laugh here and there, but with “Modern Family” you laugh throughout the entire thing until it hurts. This scene right here is comedy GOLD.
The full episode is here. I HIGHLY recommend you watch the whole thing.
The return of the sitcom is here!

You’re in Chicago, right? This is a cool store, and I know they used to have all sorts of cool stuff, including fake mustaches.
http://notasecretagentstore.com/
I should add that besides being a “spy store” it is basically a front for a tutoring place for kids. There are a whole bunch of them throughout the country, started by 826National, and connected to Dave Eggers. The one in Ann Arbor, where I live, is the Liberty Street Robot and Repair Shop.

Dear Abby: Co-worker wants her cake -- and some for her family, too
DEAR ABBY: I work in an office where folks sometimes bring in birthday cakes, desserts and other goodies to share. “Dolores” is always the first in line, and helps herself to a large portion of the treats and says she’s taking some home for her family.Last week, someone brought in an exotic dessert and I got out the dessert-sized paper plates. Dolores took out two regular-sized paper plates and cut off a quarter of the entire dessert! No one could believe it, but we didn’t know what to say or do. One time, she actually cut a huge portion of someone’s birthday cake to take home before the “birthday boy” even got a slice. This woman is not poor. What do you recommend? — “DESSERTED” IN TENNESSEE
