Flemming Dalum devotes his musical expertise to a single musical genre, Italo Disco. It’s certainly for that reason that David Vunk (Moustache Records), who has already confided him the realization of two EP as well as a fantastic mixed compilation ” The Holy Grail of Italo ” in 2009. Flemming is thus an expert in his domain and in the inviting on Valerie for an exclusive mix, I knew that he would pick up us rare tracks. And it is thus a mission achieved with these 42 tracks adjusted with silversmith’s precision, the melodic journey which he proposes us indeed promises to be unforgettable!

My dear fiend and ex-neighbour sent me a mix by a Leeds resident under the name Decknologist. He's a resident of my former neighbourhood around where I used to live: Kirkstall. Home to one of the cities many sites of heritage 'Kirkstall Abbey' . The presence of this local site definitley used to give me a sense of solemnity and thats something i thought of when hearing this mix from this specific someone from the area.
Containing a lot of the lesser known and distinctive artists of the last year or so, Decknologist presents us with a collective blend of soul drenched wonky, Slo-mo, electro and Chill wave tracks. Quite a long mix compared to alot more i find hurredly posted to soundcloud at the moment and with-holds a whopping 32 tracks.
Me and Decknologist caught up with a small twinterview over his love of Vinyl:

“Lovers Melt 2 will hopefully be part of your summer sound. Some of my favorite songs ever.. Some you know, some you might not..” – Flying Lotus
This is a song that has always completely touched me. An important message for a christmas time and a very calm and reflective but also, true to his character, a song of message from Gil-Scott supported by his ever magic and wonderfully talented keyboardist partner Brian Jackson.
A dark and twisted side to the usually spritely duo Synthia- featuring the exclusive first outing of the new track 'Making Whoopie' - Nothing to do with Ms Goldberg I guarantee, though some definite slo mo groovers and a shake'n'bake alignment of some tasty new electro disco. See Below
01. BBD Alignment - Space Dimension Contoller
02. Making Whoopie - Synthia
03. Do you Remember - Mario Bassinov
04. Do you Believe - Poolside
05. Tonight - AME (Dub Version)
06. Dick - Kerrier District
07. Lang Tung Ting - Prins Thomas (synthia's heightened suspense dub)
08. Ragysh - Todd Terje
09. Can't be Beat - Quiet Village
10. Hold Tight - Change (Late Night Tough Guy edit)
11. Cool to Make a Million - Cool Million feat. Leroy Burgess (Ilija Rudman After Hours Mix)

A Brief and charming story of Static Caravan Records founder Geoff Dolman and the people who know him.
Often, I am asked to write music reviews focusing on the details behind music. The details behind all of the sounds, the recordings, the song, the strumming, the relaying of samples and often I could not care less about this. Often I am fearful of these details and what they may do to change my idea and perception of the music I here. Especially in the context of most modern music.
"Oh, it's just a couple of Guys.",
"Oh, its a group of young girls.",
"Oh, It's someone I already know about"
"Oh, They're from Sheffield"
Maybe I am a victim of my own imagination but I dread these details most of the time. These facts of reality often change my idea of the music in permanent way and therefore change the things I think about when I hear the music. It grounds my flight of fantasy and anchors my float into a dream.
When I have interviewed musicians, they usually seem to find the idea of talking about themselves mundane and boring, simply passing detail on the facts of their own existence - born here, grew up there, went on to so and so and met thingy who later became drummer, worked with... la di da...
I prefer to dream, to allow the music to trigger my psyche into where it takes me, to feel what corresponds to the sounds from my own mind, how i psychologically interact with music, an acoustic interaction and aural installation.
Maybe this is why I admire such artists as Daft Punk whom maintain their real identity and prefer to remain 'Robots' in the public eye. It adhere's to the theme of their music, much as a magician never reveals the reality of his tricks, it would, quite simply, evaporate the illusion.
How important is it to know about the musicians?
If their past is indeed an integral part of their writing and expression then please come forth.
Though if the artist is writing to escape the painful normality of their lives then what significance does this hold against a music that comes from an adversity of there own escapism?
I prefer to dream,
Unless the real artist is something I cannot imagine; Afro-swing : Swedish Screamcore : Californian Wonky : Russian Cosmic Disco : Japanese Rockabilly : Brazilian Baille Funk.
From a place I've never 'been to' ?
One of my favourite electronic artists of the first dribbling years of the 21st century. An exhilarating and emotional micro journey through a bold, macro-emotive mellow drama, drenched in 16 bit synth waves and echoic power snares with a sound-scape that enchants the most post modernist of retro gamer. He originally wowed followers with his first single 'Sapphire' (with a most excellent remix by GRUM {download here])
and continued to produce seldom filler and usually uniquely epic but wonderfully simple electronic 'danthemns'. He's only done a handful of tracks but he is one of the most talented DIY retro blog-electro producers being heard and / or overlooked. He is a simple but lovable chap residing in Japan but not Japanese named Elliot, but that shouldn't matter should it? Enjoy
Originally released in 2005, 'Can't be beat' is a creepy, psyched out dancehall number and one of the best tracks from Joel Martin and Matt Edward 2008 Album 'Silent Movie'
Check Their website here>> http://www.quietvillage-silentmovie.com/
New Beastie Boys Album - Its been a while since we heard any kind of funk or a premise of white NYC rap coming from the honks of such Yauch, MCA, Mike D mouths. Their last 2 albums seemed to have plateaued on a fuzzy shout-rap funk platform, that doesn't span, as did formerly, over their sways in and out of punk, instrumental psyche-jazz-funk or giggle fuelled skits and out-takes.
Sometimes playing it safe can be a good option and 'Hot Sauce Committee PT 2' seems to fulfil the modern requirements.
I wanna give it some more listens.

Here's a new mix that Mr Paterson and I mixed and recorded live and back to back the other night while, streaming it and doing shuffly dances while a lucky 10 or so fans online watched (and listened) in bemused disbelief.
A steady paced journey of newer electro/ disco (cosmica) and deep house we're into and a good handful of very influential electro funk / soul / rare groove gems and re-edits.
A thorough track-list will follow shortly when we suss out the names of all the tracks we played - meanwhile i suggest shazamming anything you really wanna know or drop a comment next to the section of the mix you're curious about!
This is Duncan - He's a dear old friend and has been programming things since I have known him- He does the most amazing things with midi and laptop related music tools - like playing sub bass through a midi saxophone - yeah - that's right a plastic midi saxophone - He plays normal saxophone too, quite well and does a lot of singing but only in private usually - he has just relocated to Sheffield after falling hopelessly in Love and has recently re-borned his former self as
'I Beep Therefore I am'.
This news is dually sad and, at the same time, quite uplifting as everyone from the cat to the milkman knows him as Prod - formerly releasing an album under that name on http://pollinaterecords.com/ which you can hear on spotify here http://open.spotify.com/album/6CZzoDn92DQBAxqw5wuzgg
He writes, performs and produces all his own music making him quite a unique cat - I highly recommend catching him at a very rare live appearance in nothing but the future and if you're a major label fat cat with a wad to blow on a modern artist that shits future funk: then its time to reach fo' yo' wall'eet foo'!
If you have ever seen Prod, Beep , Duncan play you will know what i mean..... If you have, where?

In one respect I know alot about Pyrenees and in another I know very little about the musician and artist that creates partially ethereal electro and synth rhythmns to take you to other places. Pyrenees likes to take photographs of these places, places that inspire him and his music. I have always got the impression that he is trying to convey a sense of location and environment in his music.
The South (Attic & Rays of Sun) by Pyrenees
I got a little closer to Pyrenees and asked some simple questions:What do u think of when writing your music?/ Does your spanish heritage have a big influence? and whats your favourite tv / movie theme tune>? ever....
. You too can find out more about Pyrenees here

Enlightened, loose and totally beyond mainstream entertainment, comedy and musical hero Reggie Watts just exploded into your browser with a total ignition of natural charm and charisma: Trippy, yes, the comedian, musician, beatboxer, wizard within Watts' repetoir meander between the model of all three, previously enjoying moderate success with a past album launch on the Hip Hop, Rap sphere, now gaining popularity through his eclectic humour and compelling video beatbox demo’s Watts could easily be the zaniest and existentially suggestive comedian this side of Bill Hicks' demise 17 years ago, (I know).
Watts displays a lightspeed wit and a relentless ability to entertainwith with unrestrained ability, jumping from heavy nuyorican accent to middle class pronunciation : putting philosophical spins on old jokes and sporadically sliding into delicate soul vocals over a wonky hip hop acapella beatbox, using simply a loopstation and a mic.
His music alone is talent enough without his underplayed stand up routine and seemingly impulsive musical dabblings. A truly wonderful personality backed with a genuinely free and enlightened mind a whopping great afro that could sway the charm of the hardest musical comedy critic.

I found this on one of the Soul Jazz Records New York Noise compilations - I love the breathy vocal and the jet engine noise every now and then the glorious Sax that releases the tension and gives a bit of spring to the whole track! I recently found out since that impLOG were Don Christensen and Jody Harris. They were both in The Contortions and released just two records as impLOG - the 'Holland Tunnel Dive' 12" on Lust/Unlust (home of DNA, Teenage Jesus and The Jerks, Mars, Dark Day, Jeff And Jane Hudson) and a 7", 'Breakfast / She Creatures' on Log Records. Jody Harris is one of the unsung heroes of No Wave - a Contortion, an impLOGger, founder of the wonderful The Raybeats and collaborator with New York legend Robert Quine on the super 'Escape' lp on the mighty Lust/Unlust label.
