Hi, I'm Marcus.

I lead the UK Trade and Investment (UKTI) team at the British Embassy in Algiers. UKTI is the government organisation that supports both companies in the UK trading internationally and overseas enterprises seeking to locate in the UK.

I managed the FCO’s £2.7m Strategic Programme Fund for Counter Proliferation (SPF CP). This meant (1) allocating funding to well designed projects in line with the SPF strategy and linked to FCO foreign policy priorities; (2) following up with sound financial management, comprehensive reporting and robust evaluation to ensure that projects deliver their objectives on time and in budget. Key achievement: 98% spend in financial year 09/10, despite a 10% in year funding cut

I led for the FCO on EU justice and home affairs (JHA). This meant (1) working closely with a range of other departments (mainly Home Office, MoJ, UKBA) on the UK contribution to the EU’s 5 year JHA work programme (2) representing the UK at the EU working group on JHA external relations (JAIEX) (3) providing advice to ministers and senior officials on the use of the UK’s opt in on a case by case basis. Key achievement: a UK friendly 5 year work programme agreed at the December 2009 JHA Council

I worked in a public facing sales team, responsible for recommending optical products to customers. I worked closely with the rest of the team to ensure that we consistently met our collective sales targets.

I led and managed the Learn the Lingo volunteer programme. The programme aimed to support newly arrived international students by providing informal drop in mentoring sessions. I recruited and trained around 40 student volunteers, reported to students’ union management and managed a budget.

I volunteered in the ticketing department at the Sydney Festival an international, month long performing arts festival. I worked on a number of tasks in the small ticketing team, from working in venue box offices to assisting with VIP seating plans. I analysed statistics on ticket sales to contribute to the Festival’s management information.

I provided on-site support and training for students and lecturers in the use of LexisNexis legal database products. I also devised and executed promotional events and competition.
