Blind Tape Quartets 18 19 20 21 Vital Weekly Reviews

BTQ 18 19 20 21 Available Online

The “Swiss tapes” (recorded and released at the Festival Rue du Nord in Lausanne in february) are finally available online - at Discogs only, while the “autumn tour tapes” and “the superstitious one”  will be finally mixed tomorrow. It was pretty hard to manage to have everything needed in one place.

I am very sorry to all of you waiting to get the tape you’re on, it will certainly happen in april. A wish to invite special guest artwork designers (which can’t be invited before the stereo masters are ready) and my more & more complicated schedule are the reasons behind this.

Thanks again to all of you who have recorded - the next festival (and the only proper way of doing it) having Blind Tapes (Q or not? ;) ) will be in may, in Belgrade.

More info when the time comes…

The Tour is Over - Thank YOU!

It’s over, and the files will follow…

Massive thanks to everybody for having me, it was a real pleasure meeting all of you. I am really looking forward to seeing you again - and you will hear from me soon.

A huge thanks to McDonalds, if it wasn’t for you everything would be much more expensive and complicated. Really helped a lot having you at almost every train station, esp. when you had free wi-fi.

A big thanks to Burger King, which rocked in certain places where McD wasn’t insight.

On tour - artist in shadow/residence & beyond...

** another *almost final update - there’s only a weekend left; Berlin is canceled…

For the first time in my seven years “career”, I’m on the road on my own.

It has all started with my accepted proposal to “work on a new instrument for kids” which lead to a one week residency at Steim, and fueled by the invitation to join Dis-patch/Communikey presence at The Knot in Bucharest plus my wish to hang out with the even bigger Serbian crew at the Elevate festival in Graz.

Recent online & offline hookups with some like-minded people, and the networks around all of us, made me arrange my appearances through the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany easily, or, easily enough.

So far - Graz and Bucharest are already behind, and November looks looked like this:

  • 03.11. Steim 1-week residency, Amsterdam
  • 08.11  Recording session with Eric Thielemans and Jean-Yves Evrard at the Steim studio, Amsterdam
  • 12.11  Recording session with Milana Zaric, Den Haag
  • 12.11. (one open-mic Game Boy song storm) Eindbaas at ACU, Utrecht
  • 14.11. Duo with Eric Thielemans at Stuk, Leuven
  • 16.11. Trio with Eric Thielemans & Jean-Yves Evrard at El Negocito, Gent
  • 17.11. Duo with Eric Thielemans at Buster, Antwerp
  • 18.11. Solo w. tapes at Barabas, Antwerp
  • 21.11  Blind Tape Quartets recording sessions (please get in touch if you want to participate)
  • 22.11. Blind Tape Quartets recordings + presentation and concert with Georg Wissel at Café Queeria, AZ Köln Kalk
  • 23.11 Blind Tape Quartets recording sessions, Gängeviertel, Hamburg
  • 24.11 BTQ recordings + presentation/listening, Gängeviertel, Hamburg
  • 26.11 An existing essential weekend with Lukatoyboy (26th : Kids Workshop + 27th : Blind Tape Quartets + 28th Concert+Presentations) at Essential Existence, Leipzig
  • canceled: info here
29.11. Blind Tape Quartets presentation at Altes Finanzamt, Berlin
  • 01.12 Blind Tape Quartets recording sessions at Barabas, Antwerp

On Steim, a Week later

I left my a-bit-more-than-a-week residency at Steim and it felt so hard in the beginning. The feeling has reminded me of the Terre Thaemlitz talk at the Elevate festival, regarding issues and responsibilities when it comes to the feelings of people after they’ve experienced Burning Man.

Although Steim is on the on the other side of the hedonistic approach, or maybe just because of that, I had those weird thoughts the following days. Funny enough, I left my suitcase across from Steim’s guesthouse – and that was possible because Kristy, a modern witch girl, or the Modern Witch girl, she was giving a talk about the witch house microgenre, dubbed by a Colorado based artist – Pictureplane.

My week at Steim was, at the beginning, very relaxed, until I started to meet all the “knowledge workers” there, usually one by one, day by day.

The initial reason why I eventually (and after (too) many years) finally applied is called “Sound Hunt” (more about it soon – watch this space), which is the next step in my three year long work with kids. It’s going to be a cross between workshop, game, improvisation and composition (sorry for this one, but i guess when there are certain “instructions” it has to be a composition?).

Since it’s going to be the first time I use controllers as a part of the whole interface, I couldn’t have come to a better place, where so many ideas, doubts, and problems were examined and deepened and/or solved in one-on-one discussion forms. The timing, and my (in the beginning) vague proposal had its limits, so the final hardware/software test will eventually happen in the coming month(s). On top of that, I had a great time working in one of the studios, editing and recording files, which will sooner or later reach the servers.

I am looking forward to the next chapter in my approach to sound – and I’m not happy to say that it will have to include some software (LiSa + junXion), but if it doesn’t crash too often and the actual results prove to be worth of using this specific setup – I will have to remain silent.

Kids will be loud anyway, we know that.

At Steim

The first meeting with someone from, and at Steim, is pretty much summed up in this drawing, made by Kristina Andersen (one of the creative project advisors). There were some more pictures, videos and links on display – but you get all that anywhere, anytime.

I have a feeling that the next series of my workshop for kids will be ready in the coming months (hopefully weeks) – and I look forward to the recording session on monday.
