An article about the company I work for. Funny how Facebook and Google cry when we play at their own game in a clever way. Hardly unfair.

Too much, of course.

Launching a new brand is expensive. Far easier, these days: Bring back (or polish up) an old one.

So true. Clean your shoes instead of buying new ones.

Super interesting article about the potential and power of grass roots marketing. Word-of-mouth marketing can be as viral as the influenza. Companies should take note: make your customers happy. Add benefit to your product and service.

As I squeeze my way into the marketing industry, I realize that the Marketing 101 basics are definitely an essential part of a marketer’s diet. Here’s a must- Porter’s 5 Forces Model. Yesterday I was reminded that a competitor doesn’t necessarily come in the typical, obvious form- but sometimes camouflaged as a non-threatening entity.

The obvious 2 forces are the threat of entrants and the threat of substitute products. The one’s I usually fail to calculate in are the bargaining power of the buyers and suppliers. Most importantly, however, one’s own competitiveness is what’s going to make or break you. Differentiation, differentiation, differentiation- that’s the key. To make a new box to think in. I’m still working on this myself, and once I have a breakthrough, maybe I’ll take a chance at entrepreneurship.

Main points: Don’t underestimate the bargaining power of the buyers and suppliers, as well as the power of innovation and differentiation. Hooray for ingenuity.

Marketing and philanthropy should be best friends in a world that is thirsty for some societal connectedness. Good to see some people are on the right track, with or without monetary incentives.
