Asking a film critic to review your film is always a risk. Luckily the risk paid off!
“For me, watching BEING BRADFORD DILLMAN is a wonderful exercise in recognizing this tendency to conjure up vivid yarns in place of offering a more straight-forward response.”

“A unanimous jury has chosen this film because it challenges and engages with its detailed plot, its rich visual language and the skillful way in which it was made. This socio-realistic animated film with its magical details draws us into a gripping story about a girl and her mother. Their fantasies make apparent the tremendous power that parents have over children at the same time as they lead to the girl’s exploration of gender and identity.” – http://buff.se
Although BBD was not selected to screen at Rincon International Film Festival 2012, it was chosen as a special recipient of the Certificate of Excellence Award. A select few films were given this honor after the judges were upset that they struggled to find time to fit them in the film’s schedule. We’re very proud of it!
It is a great honour to announce BBD will be screened at Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale) in the Generation Kplus programme. This is a big deal for us. Molly and Bradford are beside themselves and Mum couldn’t wait to celebrate with a ciggy and glass of red wine.
For more information check the BERLINALE website, or, read the Generation press release HERE
BBD is very proud to have been shortlisted for the British Animation Awards Public Choice. There are 3 programmes full of fantastic animation that will be screened at a variety of venues across the UK.

We were very excited to be interviewed by Michelle Ong from New York’s Interview Magazine, on the eve of flying to New York for NYNL Film Festival. To read the published interview got to www.interviewmagazine.com/film/being-bradford-dillman/
Being Bradford Dillman’s compositor and CG animator speaks to Jotta.comabout her role in the film and her thoughts on the rise of 3D and animations for ‘adults’…
What motivated you to study animation? Could you tell me some of the influences that pushed you in the direction?
My interest in animation began with research into moving image artworks, from a conceptual context rather than one of entertainment. I began exploring film art, which transitioned into drawn and painted animation when no one would show me how to use a camera!

Daniella recalls her experience of the Private Screening to Hello You Creatives…
On Thursday night the candle-lit cellar of Jaguar Shoes Bar played host to the first private screening of new animated short film “Being Bradford Dillman”. The film combines cut-out stop motion characters composited into a model world. “Being Bradford Dillman” was written by Emma Burch & Pete Williamson, Animated by Daniella Orsini and Directed and Produced by Emma Burch.
Little blue headphone lights began to glow, the film was about to begin… The night was sponsored by Silent Disco, who provided wireless headphones for everyone to wear during the screening. Throughout the night the film was repeated every half an hour, which was lucky because it was so packed that not everybody could fit in to see it first time round! It received a fantastic response with laughter and sad faces in the appropriate places, which is always a relief. Read the full account HERE…
Imagine Magazine cover Sarah Doody’s interview with the creators of Being Bradford Dillman – Emma Burch and Pete Williamson…
So, what inspired the short?
EMMA: I always loved the extreme reactions I got from people when I told them my mum had told me I was born a boy when I was 3. There never seemed to be a middle ground, it was either one of extreme amusement, or total horror that she could say such a thing to a young child. I’d often get “Are you okay?” but the funniest response was “Were you?”
PETE: When Emma told me the story I thought it was really funny. It felt like the perfect opportunity to do something that captured a far stranger, darker and realistic side to childhood than the happy happy ‘bite and smile’ commercials I’d been working on.

I spent the first six months of 2011 concentrating on completing 'Being Bradford Dillman', a short animated film that I developed with Pete Williamson during my time at Loose Moose.
It was made with the support of Glenn Holberton at Loose Moose with a limited budget and I'm really proud of what we managed to achieve. We put together a great crew and have built some fantastic working relationships with all involved.
After production finished, I managed all festival submissions, print traffic and PR for the film. The film has won 16 awards and screened at over 85 international festivals and we still receive the occasional screening request to this day.
