Welcome Along!
I'm a passionate and competent individual who is happy working alone or in a team. I love what I do, and have a good knowledge of Microsoft and Mac software, along with Adobe Audition and computer playout software in broadcast situations, such as Myriad.
I worked in customer service for JD Sports for a little over 6 years, progressing quickly from a sales role to a junior management position and often running the store in the absence of the manager. Focussing strongly on working with people and delivering exceptional customer service I managed a variety of departments and used EPOS systems daily. I was a key holder and was part of a management team that made the store consistently one of the top 50 in a 500 property company.
I’ve been at 102.5 The Bridge for just over 12 months, progressing through the ranks to hosting my own shows within a few weeks. Coupling this with my work as Assistant Station Manager at Scratch Radio has helped me gain solid experience.
I'm developing my skills to become a cross platform worker, gaining experience in photography and basic web design. I'm also responsible for the social media and website management of a variety of entities ranging from an arts festival through to a functioning FM radio station.
I presented on Shine Radio which was a project for the Post Graduate Journalism students at the University. I prepared, presented and produced (and other things starting with p!) my own 3 hour show, five days a week for two weeks.
As well as spending time as a broadcast assistant with the BBC, I have worked for Smooth Radio West Midlands on their Street Team, and along with my colleagues we’ve received huge amounts of praise from both the station staff and the clients who had Smooth at their events.
Presenting a variety of daytime shows, currently Breakfast, on 102.5 FM across the Southern Black Country.
Presenting a 2 hour show weekly, and forming part of the committee in overall charge of running the station.
Working to create, market and run a new three day festival to promote arts and music across the Southern Black Country.
Forming a management committee with 5 others and planning every aspect within financial constraints. Liaising with, and booking, outside contractors and artists and planning the event with local authorities.
Managing the marketing and promotion of the event online (creating the website and social media platforms), in print and on air.
Managing and assisting in the running of the event during the weekend.
Working across a range of media, preparing content for air and compiling journalistic content for news bulletins. Greeting and booking guests, vox'ing the public for use across daytime output.
Becoming proficient in the use of Quick Edit, ENPS, Radio Man and Phone Box
As part of the marketing team for 105.7 Smooth Radio, I attend events around the West Midlands to promote the station - or enable the station to promote an outside client.
Through the role I have developed my skills of presentation and promotion, and have received positive feedback from staff and clients alike.
It has also afforded me the chance to work in a professional commercial radio environment.
The position ended when the station moved to Manchester.
Covering for the existing breakfast show producer whilst she was on leave, producing a 4 hour regional breakfast show across the West Midlands.
Organising the studio setup pre-broadcast, compiling IRN content for the presenter to feature, checking the show runs to time and liaising with news and programming teams to make sure the show runs to the best of it's ability. Answering phones, emails and texts and talking to listeners who contact the show and putting those callers to air.
Constructing pre and post show emails to teams in and around the station to let them know what's happened each day on the show and prep for the next show including loading show trails and promos onto the system for automated play out.
Compiling, producing and presenting my show as part of a team - I have been with the station since 2001 and rose through the ranks quickly to become one of it's longest serving DJ's.
Shine was a short term station broadcast from Birmingham City University. As part of the presentation team I compiled, produced and presented my own 3 hour lunch time show for two weeks.
This allowed me to further the skills I have learnt via Hospital Radio and throughout my time at University to produce a professional and appropriate broadcast.
After starting as a part time sales assistant, I progressed to a management level in a national store chain, working for the last two years as a Floor Manager in one of the companies fashion fascias.
I was responsible for running the store in the absence of the manager and for ensuring the highest level of customer service at all times by recruiting and managing a team of staff who made the store consistently one of the top 50 in the company.
I developed strong teamwork and time management skills and an ability to work well to deadlines and targets.
I was a key holder with responsibility for recruiting and training new staff to the highest level and for liaising with customers on a regular basis to ensure they were satisfied with the service the received. I also gained experience of EPOS systems and cashing up procedures as well as loss control and merchandising.
I also had responsibility for the general appearance of the store and fulfilling regular briefs from Head Office in line with stipulated criteria. I left to attend University.
During my tenure as Station Manager, I was responsible for the running, overall output and image of Dudley Hospital Radio.
Unfortunately I had to leave the role in early 2009 due to work commitments and University.
