WHAT’S HAPPENED AND WHAT’S GOING TO HAPPEN:

in october 2009, after a series of preview shows around indianapolis, KNS presented OPTICAL POPSICLE at the earth house. it was a two-day, visually-pleasing extravaganza. since OPTICAL POPSICLE, we’ve been performing at conferences, local art galleries, house parties and in public. everything we do is new to us and we’ve enjoyed figuring things out and the response that’s come from our city. bringing our shows on the road is one of our next steps. we have a lot of events (local and out-of-town) planned for spring 2010 so stay tuned to our twitter and we’ll do our best to keep things updated. to join our mailing list, e-mail us at purplepeoplemeeter@hotmail.com

    THE GREAT INDIANAPOLIS PITCH-IN

The Great Indianapolis Pitch-in (GiPi) is inspired by the Brooklyn Feast.  The basic function is to bring together a community to enjoy a dinner provided by local restaurants, chefs and farmers.  During this meal the patrons who enjoy the local food will not only be entertained by Know No Stranger and other local performers, but will also actively participate in funding ideas for their community.  This funding is raised from the attendees paying a sliding scale at the door.  They are handed a ballot containing information for a handful of ideas and projects that directly relate and affect the community of indianapolis.  The projects will all be spearheaded by locals and serve as a landmark for Indianapolis and will benefit the local community in a creative way.  People come to the dinner, they eat, they enjoy, they vote, and the winner gets the door money raised by the community to fund their project.  A few months later there will be another dinner, the winners will present details of their projectʼs process.  A new group of projects will be presented and the cycle will continue.

GiPi is showcasing Indianapolis culture by using local restaurants, chefs, and farmers for our event.  A way for neighbors to nourish neighbors and a way to highlight what makes indianapolis different from other cities.  This event will also educate the attendees of the local farms and restaurants.  This event is acting as a directory for the local foods, artist, and entertainers.  We are taking collaborative ownership of projects that will serve as a landmark for our city.

GiPi intends to bring together a crowd of artist, foodies, activists, thinkers, and those who want to take charge of the change.  We want to reach such a wide range of people who collectively shape indianapolis and connect those who donʼt often collaborate.  We want this to be indianapolis at a glance; this thought applies to both the features (local artists and chefs) as well as the range of  patrons.  We will be connecting up and coming and aspiring community members with people who have had a more experienced role in shaping our city. With all these things coming together we will celebrate the character of Indianapolis.
