Keia Johnson

From as early as I can remember, I've always been an artist, performer and entertainer. Church choirs led to part-time gigs and then working with Grammy winners. When Mary J. Blige threw up her hands and told me I was on to Hollywood during the auditions for American Idol, I knew it was time to pursue my dream full-time. This is my journey.

I thought I'd take a minute and discuss my thoughts on the issue of what marriage is in our society today. I have seen more articles, blogs and stories about Kris & Kim and their fake marriage than i've heard anyone discuss Mark & Gabby. Maybe you all remember that dreadful day when we all found out that Congresswomen Giffords had be shot in the head and if you were like me, I was just waiting to hear of her passing. I was so sad that this amazing women's life had been cut short by some idiot, but that's not what happened. Miraculously she is alive and not just alive but thriving!!! Now, it's a shame that I'm having to recap that story but i'm just afraid so many of you won't know off of the top of your head who she is. Mark Kelly is her Astronaut Husband that stuck by her throughout the entire ordeal. This week they've been on a few shows and their story is remarkable, so inspiring, so courageous, so touching that I felt compelled to discuss them further. I consider them "The Real McCoys".

Now to discuss what I consider "The Fakes".  The latest on the Kris & Kim marriage/divorce/quickest most over-rated wedding of the century in my opinion; is that he is now looking to sue for $10 Million. Have we gotten so greedy that we've equated marriage to a payday? It sickens me how marriage, real marriage is not celebrated but money and "the come-up" is. People need to wake up. I'm sure the day Mark Kelly married Gabby Giffords, he never thought one day i'll have to speak for her, guess what she wants to eat, help her get dressed, bath her, comb her hair & understand things that are not understandable. I'm almost certain that he NEVER thought that, but real love causes you to not think but act. Real commitment protects, nurtures, supports & believes when the rest of the world has given up. All I'm trying to say is stop referring to Kris & Kim as a marriage. That my dear people was about greed, ratings & sex. Point blank period. Don't strive for the million dollar wedding, strive for the priceless marriage.  Mark & Gabby have a marriage, Kris & Kim had an arrangement and it seems that even that was not articulated clearly.  I'm sure Mark & Gabby have faults, but that's real. I celebrate them.

Over the last 120 days I have some stories I could share. I could tell you everything negative that happened to me, and every hurt I experienced. But who logs onto someone's website to read depressing stories, this isn't Lifetime, ha! Instead, i've decided i'm not gonna give those things power but rather share with you all of the amazing positive moves I have going on. For one, September is my birthday month and NOTHING is going to take the month long celebration I'm having for that from me! Thank you in advance God for another year! This month i'm finishing up a CD geared at school-age children, more to come on that later! I'm so excited about this project "Keia for Kids". Stay tuned. I'm also shooting a music video!!!! Can you guess which song i'm doing first? I'll let you know in a few weeks :) It's going to be a STUPID (in a good way) concept.

So October is going to be CRAZY BUSY with good stuff! Lots of shows in Memphis & surrounding cities. You'll see fliers and more information about those as the dates get closer but mark the 15th & 22nd of October on your calendars. I'll also be debuting the music video or possibly videos! Photo shoot coming up, just lots of good stuff! The summer of 2011 was anything but a walk through the park but i'm still smiling. I'm losing more friends the deeper I get in my passion but i'm gaining more respect and attracting people that are serious like I am about my passion. There can be no gain without some loss, and i've lost so much that I expect a huge gain. To the man I gave my heart to in the summer of 2011, thank you. Thank you for what you've shown me about myself i'm so much better because of what you showed me about me. Like I always say, don't miss the movement, don't miss my journey.

Oh! And if you love jewelry like I do, check out my link, Stella & Dot is for the stylists at heart! Follow me on twitter @contactkeia & talk to you soon!

July 12, 04:46 PM

Hello world...the last few weeks i've been evaluating what it means to "Date" and what i've discovered has really disgusted me. Ladies and Men, stop sweating the person who has given you NO REASON to even care about them. What is it about us that wants to believe what isn't there and ignore the obvious? I can't tell you how many excuses I've heard us make on why he/she didn't call us back. "He works the late shift so I only talk to him once a week." If he cared about you, he would call you during the day when you're on lunch to say "Hey, thinking about you. Wanted to make sure you had a great day." Or what about this one, "She just got out of a bad relationship a few years ago so she just wants to be friends." Dude, ask yourself this, how long does it take you to know whether or not you LIKE someone? Yep, that's what I thought, not very long. Almost instantly when you have a conversation with someone, you can know if this person makes you smile, or looks you in the eyes when they're talking or remembers what you say. I mean it's just not that difficult.

So with that being said, let the duds go! Chuck the dueces to all the people that have excuses on why they can't call you, spend time with you, make time for you, see you, remember things that are important to you. And trust me, when someone likes and cares about you they won't just text you. THEY WILL CALL. You can't base a relationship on text messages! Someone that cares about you will never INTENTIONALLY make you cry, and if they make you cry and aren't there to console you and help fix what they did wrong, I promise they don't care about YOU. With that being said, hold your head up. I hope someone will delete some numbers after reading this. I know I did....Check out Beyonce's new video that drives this point home. You're the best they never had. Peace.

I have had a lot of people ask me what I'm working on or what i'm up to. I thought i'd take my time and explain it to you. I have just completed my 1st work, T.I.M.E. this is me exclusively. I have been working on this since September of 2010 and it's amazing to finally be finished. It is an EP and a lot of people don't know what that is, so I thought I'd educate you. An EP (short for extended play) is a musical recording which contains more music than a single, but is too short to qualify as a full album or LP. The term EP originally referred only to specific types of vinyl records other than 78 rpm standard play (SP) records and LP records,[1] but it is now applied to mid-length compact discs and music downloads as well. Ricardo Baca of The Denver Post said, "EPs — originally extended-play 'single' releases that are shorter than traditional albums — have long been popular with punk and indie bands.

I am in the middle of planning listening parties, release parties and securing some tour dates around the release of the EP which will be the 1st week of June! I'm also planning on shooting a video here soon so LOTS of movement going on. I have been hard at work behind the scenes and what I have completed is something I am really proud of. This is a labor of love and "I need a Hit" is an exact description of what it's been like completing this work. I have financed this EP by myself and it has been hard. I've sacrificed a lot for it so I hope you will support in a MAJOR WAY. Make sure to follow me on twitter @contactkeia & like my fan page "Official Fan page of Keia Johnson". Don't miss the movement...don't miss my journey.

Hello to all...March was a whirlwind but I have some great things to share. The EP is so close to being finished I can taste it :) Photo shoot 2011 is finished and I can't wait for you to see the pictures. I also recorded my first song for a soundtrack! I will dedicate an entire blog to that movie here shortly but there are some GREAT opportunities that came from that. I had some losses last month that caught me off guard but it has made me that much more focused on living life and not giving up on the dream. I have found a great balance in my life right now and I want to make music that helps people find theirs. Who knows, I may even be acting soon...can you imagine it, seeing me in movie theaters across the mid-south...Well for now I leave you with my first, hopefully of many, 60 seconds. Read the interview too, I let you in to who I am a little bit. Don't miss the movement, don't miss the journey...

January 02, 02:29 AM

So 2011 is here. I am so glad that I can officially say that 2010 is a year in my past & as I sat here today I thought about what I learned from last year. I looked at pictures from the year, I read some of my journal entries & as much as it hurts to admit I could have done a lot of things differently. So I thought instead of talking about New Year Resolutions I would talk about New Year Solutions based of off the problems I went through.  Solution #1 This year, I will do what makes me happy not what I think is expected of me. Solution #2 I will not apologize for who I am nor will I compromise my standards, artistry or worth. Solution #3 I will listen to that still small voice that always lets me know when something isn't quite right. Solution #4 I will work like crazy to not let anyone or thing, circumstance or situation take my smile, my joy, or my peace.

I've learned who really loves me & supports me. I've learned who jumps on bandwagons. I've learned who is greedy, self-centered, misunderstood, genuine, compassionate yeah I've learned a lot. It's pointless to go through something & not gain anything from it. So in 2011 I say to you, expect a new strength from me. Expect new music from me. Expect consistent honesty, love & compassion. Happy New Year & May God bless you.

October 26, 09:54 PM

Hello to everyone! This has been a fall unlike any fall that I have ever seen and I say that literally and figuratively. I have had a lot of people "fall" away from me, I've had a lot of things to "fall" away from me, I've had a lot of "fall" to happen here lately and as I type I am understanding what the set up is. Few people truly understand what it is to have a passion and a love of something so much that you would risk complete loneliness and isolation to accomplish the goal you know is achievable even when everyone else doubts. This is just like Fall is a set up for spring. You see Fall has to happen to get out of the way for something newer, bigger & better. Every year when fall comes a tree loses bark, and leaves but every year after the fall that tree's roots grow deeper and the next year it grows a little taller and the bark a little stronger. So I won't despise the Fall but embrace it and go through the bareness, it's only temporary. I suggest you do the same! And it's also been a while since I shared a video so I thought I'd post me doing one of my favorite songs right now. Check it out and let me know what you think. I'll be back in November!

Tomorrow I'll make my debut on the Visable Stage at the 23rd annual Cooper Young Festival and I am really pumped about it. There will be (3) stages with artists performing on them all day. So come on out and make a day of it. Also on September 21st I'll be performing at the Grizzlies Block Party, fun fun fun! But wait, it gets better. Check out the flier below for a show I'm having at the Rumba Room on October 3rd. Mark your calendars and come out for some good music in a mature atmosphere. This is my birthday month and I'm celebrating the entire month but more than anything I'm hopeful that more people will take each day as the gift it is. Never take for granted waking up and going to sleep. I have been working on new music and I promise when the songs are perfected and ready for the public I will share them :) I'll be back soon with more updates and good news. See you October  3rd at the Rumba Room!
