Summer is officially over here in Portland, and for those of us getting married next year, it means wedding planning is in full swing. I’ve admittedly been a little distracted on the planning front, but I’m excited to get back in the game this weekend at Committed: Portland’s Indie & Alternative Wedding Event! (seriously, what’s more Portland than that?)
The event is this Friday, October 12, at CASTAWAY Portland in NW. It features unique wedding vendors, a fun atmosphere and two fashion shows and is hosted by the wonderful ladies at Luxe Productions, whose wedding planning services are some of the best Portland has to offer. Tickets are $12 online and $15 at the door and the fun kicks off at 5pm.
Check out the event on Facebook and follow on Twitter for all the latest out-of-the-box wedding inspiration. See you there!
Sure, there are walk-a-thons and dial-a-thons but have you ever been part of a waxx-a-thon? Well ladies, today is the day. Beginning at 9am, Urban Waxx‘s Northwest location will be waxing and grooming for 24 hours – all day and all night – with all proceeds benefiting two amazing charities.
We all know that waxing isn’t the most enjoyable situation, but everything about Urban Waxx makes the experience as comfortable as it can be. From the chic and modern atmosphere to the incredible service, Urban Waxx really is your only option for great waxing in Portland.
Don’t miss out on your chance to wax for a cause! Call (503) 219-9299, book online or just drop by the NW location on 18th and Marshall before 9am tomorrow. Happy waxing!
JCrew.com is featuring lots and lots of great summer styles on sale right now. Here are some of my favorites!
Portland is a brunch town – just ask Portlandia. Everyone has a favorite place, many great and all with varying degrees of delay on a busy Sunday morning. Lately I’ve been spending my weekend mornings at the eclectic, delicious and justifiably crowded Jam on Hawthorne.
If you’re looking to keep Portland weird while eating incredible home-style food, this place is for you. While you wait outside, grab a cup of their Portland Roasting Company house blend from the table they have near the front door. But if you’re desperate for coffee, I might recommend bringing your own mug, as they are often in short supply. Don’t worry, you won’t look stupid. It is Portland after all.
The diverse menu features fare for everyone from the bacon-fanatic to the vegan, the carb-obsessed to the Atkins dieter. Some of our favorites are the Bella Sunrise, which is two eggs on a bed of fresh spinach with red pepper sauce and feta, and the Maddie Cakes, incredible lemon-ricotta pancakes with house-made blueberry compote.
They have the usual brunch libations and more, including build your own 12 oz mimosas and a section of ‘Famous Bloody Marys’ like the Dirty Harry with mango-habanero infused vodka. Not to mention a huge selection of other adult beverages of the hot and cold variety, plus all the usual non-alcoholic options.
Like most popular brunch spots, if you’re big on group and low on patience, you might try somewhere else. But if it’s you and a couple friends, or you ate before you wait, Jam on Hawthorne is definitely worth a visit.
See you next weekend!
