Reblogged from Music To My Ears:
Belated Shankaranti/Pongal greetings to all of you! May all your wishes come to fruition!
Come Pongal, I cannot but think longingly of my mother’s wonderful Chakkarai Pongal (sweet jaggery rice). She was indeed a master of this dish; she had it perfected to a T. Actually I have what I think is her recipe but I can never get it to taste like hers.

Sultry, Sweaty, Weather
The sun pouring down its rays at full strength
Moisture content so high in the atmosphere.
feeling so full all the time.
drinking lots and lots of water.
That lovely fluid with the best possible taste in the whole world.
Gulp!!
lots of fresh vegetables.cucumbers, tomatoes, so yummy.
Drowsy, Sleepy.
Just feel like lying down, curling up with a pillow and a book, with a nice fan, closed curtains and a glass of lemon juice, at reach.
Summer is here, and boy it is here to stay.
Little whispers of hopes and thoughts
floating in your mind and around you.
POinting you in the direction of your dreams.
Enveloping you in their misty clouds.
Pulling you, tugging you
Chasing you, letting you run
but holding you back.
wafting sweet scents of the future into your nostrils.
So you feel insanely enchanted
eyes glow warm and deep,
lost in the unseen visions of what’s to be
Submerged in the viscous pull of dreams.
To sink is sublime,
To float is divine.
The essence of life swims through your soul as
you weave your way through the jungle of hopes
entangled and enmeshed at times
Free and far away at others.
The boatsman in you
strives to take you down the path,
rowing along.
Through rushing waters and dangerous boulders,
waterfalls and whirlpools around the corner,
Uncanny, unstinting,
trusting the way
Following the thread of thoughts and dreams
till you reach your destiny.

Everyone, I’m elated to tell you that Tumblr will be joining Yahoo.
Before touching on how awesome this is, let me try to allay any concerns: We’re not turning purple. Our headquarters isn’t moving. Our team isn’t changing. Our roadmap isn’t changing. And our mission – to empower creators to…
- books
- unexpected kindness in strangers
- the rest of the world to travel
- languages to learn
- animals to take care of
- volunteer work to do
- the power of a good night’s rest
- the changing of seasons
- infinite things to learn
- billions of people to meet and possibly love
- billions of people who might love you back
wolfdancer:- Very True
Here we equate the performance impairment caused by fatigue with that due to alcohol intoxication, and show that moderate levels of fatigue produce higher levels of impairment than the proscribed level of alcohol intoxication.
Take it from the scientists: Not getting proper sleep is akin to walking around drunk. Learn what actually happens while you sleep and why it matters, the essential science of your internal clock, and how dreams mediate negative emotions.
As a wise woman once wrote, “sleep is the best (and easiest) creative aphrodisiac.”

The European space observatory may be dead, but its legacy lives on. Here are some of our favorite Herschel observations since 2009.

What is success? I think it is a mixture of having a flair for the thing that you are doing; knowing that it is not enough, that you have got to have hard work and a certain sense of purpose.

Nothing in the world is permanent, and we’re foolish when we ask anything to last, but surely we’re still more foolish not to take delight in it while we have it. If change is of the essence of existence one would have thought it only sensible to make it the premise of our philosophy.
Art is never finished, only abandoned.
I think very true..

So very true. Something I think love and art have in common.

Do not give me love
in just black and white
I seek the passions
of fire the vibrancy
of flashing hues
Torrential storms
that bring in waves
where souls sink
submerged into
each other.

Yes, money can buy you happiness
Jon Terbush writes:
We all know the sayings: Money can’t buy you happiness; more money, more problems.
But while those are nice little feel-good platitudes, they may not hold water in the real world, according to a new study from economists Betsey Stevenson and Justin Wolfers.
By mapping income versus self-described happiness in several countries worldwide, the study’s authors found that the more money people had, the happier they tended to be. The trend was clear across the board, leading the economists to conclude that there’s “no evidence of a satiation point,” a theoretical level of contentment past which more cash doesn’t translate into more happiness.
There is consternation at Wikipedia over the discovery that hundreds of novelists who happen to be female were being systematically removed from the category “American novelists” and assigned to the category “American women novelists.”
[…]
The debate that broke out when Filipacchi’s opinion piece appeared is still running, and the issue appears to be more general and pervasive than most had originally thought. Throughout Wikipedia, in all kinds of categories, women and people of nonwhite ethnicities are assigned only to their subcategories. Maya Angelou is in African-American writers, African-American women poets, and American women poets, but not American poets or American writers. Many editors are saying that people need to be “bubbled up” to their parent categories.
