Ahoy chickens!
Just unpacked my beach bag after a young test shoot at Happy Valley/ Six Pillars beach this morning- as per usual, getting sand everywhere in the process!
For my novice model readers (and whoever else doesn't know..) a test shoot is a sort of practice photo shoot. A client (boutique, designer, stylist, makeup artist, etc.) needs to see you, the model, in as natural a state as possible ie. not much makeup or done up hair and decide whether or not you're right for their project/collection and if they've already chosen you, to see how much and what kind of make-up and hair they'll need to organize for the actual shoot.
Myself and some others from the agency could potentially be shooting swimwear for a local boutique and so we had a test shoot today with the lovely Carla behind the lense, no make-up, no fuss :)
Check it out!

Hey hey hey!
Happy Easter lovers!
Quite the miserable constant drizzle here in PE so after a great start to the day (3km in 20 minutes, whatuuup) I got home, showered, and back into bed it was.
So now, in bed and on cup number 4 of tea, I present yours truly for Love The Girl, shot by Astrid Bradley (taken from her Facebook Page), make-up by Cherie' Squier.
So far my fave on the right over here :)
The Dressing Room :P
A little on-location pose practice ;)
Cherie sorting me out...
...and on Megan
So this day failed a little..
I could have been at a shoot for a magazine but I found out about it late and thus sent my portfolio a little too late.
I could also have been at a music video shoot but I'm not even sure if that's on today.
I could have even been having sundowners at a friend's place but it's a logistical nightmare and I still haven't gotten round to those driving lessons yet.
So at the moment, these are my prospects for the night ahead:

Happy new year everyone!
I sit writing this while waiting for an episode of Scandal to buffer. (You should all get on that, btw.)
The year definitely started on a high with my family and good friends in Diani for some sun-soaking and beach-raving with 6:AM- gotta love the Diani NYE experience.
Hello Lovers :)
Well hello, chickens!
Everybody remember me? After a few last intense weeks of 1st year architecture I barely remember me to be honest!
I hope everyone's been well since the month or so I last posted and looking forward to the holidays! I'm finally on my break so I have time to blog and learn to drive and prepare myself for bikini season =)
So it turns out the 10th of September marked a year since I started this blog and while I'm not the biggest anniversary fusser (obvs), that's pretty huge, no? Looking back on how much I've grown in my modelling and general life experience, I thought it was time for a reflection post and an all-new re-branded blog.
So I've changed the entire name of the blog from Amateur Supermodel Rants to Frame Ambition and designed a new page for it too. Ta-da!
Now here's a look at my year taking modelling seriously- I've changed and learned massive lessons and hope someone out there realises that with the right guidance and determination, so can you! Here goes and no laughing!
September 2011: Elite Model Look Nairobi Castings
The subject of my first ever post, this was one of the first big chance I took in my quest to become a high fashion model. I got through the first screening stage but then was probably too short...ah well. Test shots from the casting day:
Greetings!
I'll get right to my list of reasons for not posting in over a month.
1. Architecture school is kicking my ass
2. Apart from portfolio shoots at the agency, I've been doing nothing modelling-related
3. I've heard that boutique owners in Port Elizabeth would quite simply rather have blonde white girls model their clothes (Port Elizabethans, is this true?)
4. Eastern Cape Fashion Week seems to have been a rumour because even my designer friend who won a spot in this year's exhibit has heard nothing about it in weeks.
*MASSIVE SIGH*
In a glimmer of light though, I have just entered this competition:
For one of my favourite jewellery stores EVER :)
I love the photo I used and feel pretty confident...so wish me luck!
Short and sweet for now ;)
Bisoux!

If you're a reader of this blog then you're no stranger to the fact that I'm an absolute lover of the wild and all the wonder that comes with being in our fantastic national parks. So with a travel agent dad and a road-trip junkie family; it only seemed right that I accept the invitation to model in a photoshoot at the Nairobi National Park in conjunction with Closet49 and the Kenya Wildlife Service.
4 models, 2 photographers, a special security detail and KWS guide and one persistent baboon made up our team for the shoot/game drive/ field day.
And what a day it was! As many times as I may visit the park, I'm still dumbfounded that right there in the capital city are lions, zebras and their homies going about their lives just like us. It's right there. And it's cheap. And it's freaking amazing. I don't know what else I could say except...
The gang afterwards :) And my personal favourite :D BOSS. And the lesson of the day: if you wander away from your guide vehicle without knowing the roads of the park, you WILL get lost. You know yourselves ;) Want more? Olav Arthur Mburu, our male model for the day Ciao darlings! Bisoux, J.
Hello all!
I hope you're all enjoying your week so far, whether on holiday or not =)
I am, but the past week hasn't been without its' ups and downs. The major thing being that I had quite a good chance to walk in an actual paying fashion show, the one I mentioned I was hoping for here....and right when I was about to put on my game face for the first rehearsal....in came my family with plans to visit my gran in shagz this weekend and a trip to Samburu for my last weekend before I go back to school ie. the weekend of the show. GUTTED.
Honestly it's something I worked hard for and was excited to be given a chance to be a part of.
BUT I knew immediately that at the end of the day family does come first and it took me a while but I had to let that one go. Time to take a deep breath and trust that there will be more, bigger, better opportunities.
OK that's done.
Now on to some good stuff. Like, this weekend was pretty good otherwise!
I skipped over to Sitawa 'Mama Africa' Wafula's poetry event; 'Sitawa Ignited' which was definitely an eye-opening, fun start to my Saturday night. Free wine, heart-wrenching screening of a documentary, poetry, open-mic, good music and we have a winner =D The next edition is on the day after I go back to SA though. Hear my soul weep a little...
Poetry by Fuse..
And 'A Litlle More' from the lady herself
Musical interlude from Lonesome Bounty
And a show-stealing Ziki backed by Love Music Then came the FAFA Insight afterparty @ The Vineyard in Westlands, quite the celeb-studded event but I was much too scared of looking too excited to pull out my camera and start snapping away. Which is just as well because my camera died right as I remembered I even had it. This is all that survived: Can you see designer John Kaveke's head!?? lol :P Generally a great night full of interesting encounters with great characters. Miss Kenya USA, a pretty man in a pink dress, a charming Frenchman whose profession is holiday-ing , a hot dreadlocked DJ whose name I just can't remember...starts with a Z...(it's really getting to me..). I DID manage to get a photo taken of my outfit though :) How's THAT for Afro Glam?! Cheers to Nick Klaus for the photo and the fantastical ladies at Honestly WTF for the inspiration behind the shirt ruffle :)

Hello all!
How is everyone this fine weekend? Hopefully you're all great and looking as fantastic as the orange jeans I got from my friends at Closet49 today ;D
Oh yes, I'm back in the 254 (Nairobi, to be exact) and naturally ran to my discount shopping spots after having barely unpacked...! Oh how I've missed buying secondhand clothing! (teehee)
But anyway, business as usual, I'm on my fashion gig-seeking grind as I've always been for the past year or so. At the moment I'm feeling pretty confident that my added experience and the fact that I'm affiliated with an agency now will help my chances and bring me even more luck than I've had in my hometown.
First target: The annual Trendz Kenya Fashion Festival
Totally got rejected for this last year but I'm back on this horse with a vengeance! Boom!
Good day, darlings!
I hope everybody has had a wonderful week, I know I have, as busy as it was what with bulding models, studying, booking a ticket home(!) :D
But anyway, it has been brought to my attention that Port Elizabeth (or Eastern Cape...) Fashion Week is in fact a legit event that has been happening every September for a short while now...and oh my days how amazing would that be. (Clearly so amazing that I didn't need a question or exclamation mark to express that statement). Boom.
So without getting ahead of myself I bring you snippets of some of my personal fave supermodels and their own fashion week experiences. Enjoy! :)
Good day, darlings!
Once again, I apologise for my spastic lack of posting because if you could see how often I come on to my blogger page and just stare at stuff, you'd probably want to fill my bed with sand. Sorry about that.
But anyway, today I'm going to talk to you about appropriate practices in the run-up to a photoshoot (for the model). I (probably) have my second shoot with Sleek tomorrow and these are the steps I've taken in the last week to ensure maximal camera swag. (MYDAYS I hate that word. Put it in there tough cz that phrase is amusing in my mind. Just for a laugh)
Step 1: Drown your insides. Drink water- the proper stuff, none of that flavoured, vitamin-y enriched nonsense- and lots of it! I'm sure I don't need to tell anybody the benefits of this; physical, mental, emotional, complexional, etc. I'm drinking that sh*t UP today because I perhaps should not have gone out 2 nights before a shoot.
Which brings us to...
Step 2: NO ALCOHOL within....25 hours of the beginning of your shoot. Guesstimation. But whether you lie to yourself about being immune to hangovers or not, you'll feel the consequences of this bad life choice on set and afterwards. Chances are everyone will see it as well, including the make-up artist who I've discovered are occasionally judgemental of their model canvasses. You know how the camera adds 10lbs on? It magnifies your pores and eyebags x10 as well. True say.
Step 3: Keep the experiments to the scientists and hands by your sides. DO NOT experiment with new skin care regimes, make-up, hair colours, etc within say....10 days of your shoot. Better guestimation. Because that's the amount of time your skin needs to recover from a facial too. No pimple-squeezing and no first-time waxing, plucking or shaving hair.
Step 4: Lay off foods that induce blowfish reactions. Salt= water retention (skin puffiness). Chocolate, sugar, saturated fats, animal fats, animal skins= skin breakouts (more often than not. Either way that shit isn't healthy, yo). Try and stick to fruits and veg in their natural state (like you'll do with water) and just general home-cooked-type food. Probably best to carry this on for life. Just putting it out there.
And one I've imposed on myself for this shoot: no bread. I did this for 2 main reasons:
Hey all!
This weekend two friends from high school were killed in a car crash in Nairobi; two others went into a coma. One woke up yesterday, thank God but there's still one guy in hospital.
This has been on my mind every day since then and it just got me thinking how these were such sweet, happy, talented people who injected life into the times I spent with them and that we all need to make an effort to do that. Like Maya Angelou said, people will forget what you did and said, but never how you made them feel.
So I'm dedicating this post to Silvano and Waweru who will never be forgotten because of the way they made people feel.
Rest in peace boys <3
Hello chickens!
I've just had a MAD weekend and an even worse couple days of deadline after deadline so as of right now I'm starting my Easter break early like a BOSS. Just, you know, while going to shool and stuff...
BUT ANYWAY, It's official! I most excitedly signed my first ever modelling contract with an agency right before my first ever professional studio shoot during my first ever PE weekend when I didn't go out. Gotta say it feels gooood! Here, I copped a behind-the-scenes photo for you to see...
